Ian Harford travels to the Cornish countryside in the pursuit of roebuck. Hunting on a warm summers evening with picturesque rolling hills and valleys, it truly is the perfect time and location to be out stalking Roebucks.
It’s Ian Harford's first outing with the Sauer 100 Pantera fitted with the latest generation Hawke Frontier 2.5-15x50 scope.
Chris puts a huge amount of time and effort into scouting. He knows his ground intimately, where the deer are and their likely movements. It’s a testament to the work he puts in. It’s not long before a doe and a kid meander out in the field. It’s great to see deer out feeding, particularly the next generation coming through.
The stiff breeze is constant but predictable. During this hunt, the hard work is taken care of by the Hawke Frontier EDX 10x42 binoculars, which offers the perfect balance between weight and optical performance when stalking on foot.
Ian and Chris decide to sit out behind a wall that provides the perfect vantage point to overlook the field below. That’s where Chris believes the deer will be located. Patience is key here. The Hawke Endurance LRF 1500 rangefinder gives Ian the range data for key landmarks within Ian’s arc of fire. This information will allow Ian to make a quick shot if the opportunity presents itself.
It’s important to constantly scan the fields and margins for movement as the deer are constantly moving around, particularly when the evening is drawing in. As the evening draws to a close Ian spots a beautiful young 6 point buck being followed by a young doe. He needs more time to mature and so they wave him a fond farewell.
The next morning the team head out early. The conditions are very different from the previous day with little wind and a thick covering of fog. This makes things slightly trickier.
Chris is confident we’ll see a buck here that’s made this valley his home for the past few weeks. This is where putting the time in your reconnaissance really pays off.
Soon enough they spot a chestnut patch in the valley below and they’re pretty confident it’s the buck they’ve been looking for. They make our way down the hedge line, using the wall ahead to cover their approach.
Using the Pulsar XQ38 Thermal imager they can see the buck is accompanied by a doe. This gives us another pair of eyes to try and avoid.
The beautiful 6 point buck is making its way up the valley in pursuit of the doe but has lost sight of her as she jumped the wall.
Finally, the buck steps out and offers a perfect opportunity to take a shot...

"on a warm summer's evening..." Ian, I was on the reloading bench in my garage yesterday morning, in shorts, a t-shirt, and crocs. Temp most of the morning was about 75-76º F, with 90% humidity. I worked up a big, soaking sweat. Heavens I wish we had the sort of "warm" summers you have in the UK down here in Texas. Very jelly! I continue to express my disappointment where I don't see you and Wildy using "European" calibers like 6.5x55, 7x57, 9.3x62, and the like.

Great example of a heathy roe. Sad I can’t hunt locally with a bow. About time we focus on getting bowhunting back on the approved weapons list. IBEP hunters are skilled trained and qualified.

Almir Hajduk a compound bow at 69lb draw with a 500 grain arrow moving at 300 FPS will Deliver 80 kJ of energy. Most likely get a complete pass threw on most European big game. Bowhunting is a completely different way if taking an animal. We take by blood loss which has proven leave less cellular markers for stress. Bowhunting has also shown by controlled study to have lower wind rates then rifle hunting as well as greater harvest rates.

Great shot. How old was the buck? He looked like a 5 year old buck

May I ask why people shoot in the rear and not just take a head shot?
@smokedbrisket3033
@smokedbrisket3033 4 года назад
Heart/lungs is a larger target with a larger margin for error than the head.

@@smokedbrisket3033 ohhh okay, I just didn't know a shot there would take it down sooo quick.

@@ajdexter4195 sometimes they go down like they've been pole-axed, sometimes they run 40 or 50 or 100 yards after getting shot in the heart/lungs. Still a much better death than they're going to get from mother nature.

Vine Cottage no, exactly where it needed to be. You must aim a little higher when shooting downhill. The shot took out the artery cluster and top section of the heart.

Why the hell are you wearing ear defenders when you have a mod on and are only likely to take one shot😂 don’t tell me it’s to enhance hearing either because I have a set of pelter 300s😂
@TeamWildTV
@TeamWildTV 4 года назад
Liam Ambrose mainly because of the extreme tinnitus in my left ear that’s resulted from many years of foolishly not wearing appropriate hearing protection. I protect them now as much as I can. I’m not sure there’s any such thing as “too safe” when it comes to rifle shooting
