Got to be honest... I thought the album was great and the movie was terrible. Still, if people like it or even love it, then good for them. I wonder, however, how many people love the movie because they love The Who. The Beatles have been my favorite band since I was a kid but The Magical Mystery Tour movie just does absolutely nothing for me, yet other people rave about it and I wonder the same thing. I really don’t want to take anyone’s joy away... I guess I just don’t get it.

Thanks for a considerate response; If you're sincerely curious, since you asked, a lot of us see the movies (Yellow Submarine is another one) as something outside their origins and in many cases we saw the movie before we even knew what the source was. I've been discussing this with fans of the Who and Beatles for 40 years at least, and have come to the conclusion that if I had liked the rock groups first I'd have hated the movies made of their stuff. But I didn't--as a kid, when I heard the original album of "Tommy" I was confused that there was no Ann-Margret, no synths, no Elton John...I know it must be hard to believe but that's how it was--it wasn't about better or worse, it was just what I liked. The bottom line for me is there's room for it all...I like the movie, the album and even the B'way show, but I think of them as entirely different entities, barely related. That probably doesn't help, but I appreciated that you brought it up in such a courteous way so felt compelled to answer, cheers.

monkynmee57 actually that makes a lot sense and it never would have occurred to me. I suppose it’s short sighted to not realize people may experience things in a different order as well as a different perspective. Much thanks. And even though I didn’t care for the movie this is still a pretty cool little interview. The reflection on the first part of the movie being the only “real” part and remembering his own dad coming back from the war...that’s powerful.

I love the visuals of the movie, but was really crushed that they didn't use the album music, especially for "Pinball Wizard."
