This is my fav men's match in a very long time. It's to eerie to watch Dimitrov play Federer at this level. Their games are sooooo similar. The only thing Dimitrov is missing is the confidence. He can still break through and win a bunch of Grand Slams

The super offensive style was a key feature in his later years, especially against younger top players. Remember he played very similarly against Novak too in both Wimby and ATP finals in 2019 and even in 2015 American summer when he introduced SABR. I think it was a tactic of going all out on his strengths and smothering his opponents early instead of going into a longer battle where his legs might have betrayed him.

Worst thing that happened to Grigor was being labelled 'Baby Fed' by the media as he has let that affect him psychologically which has affected his game in a negative way with lack of self belief. He has all the skills and shots but the difference between great players and the 'greatest' players in any sport is always between the ears!

I dont think he really has all the shots. I think he's too gangly for a one handed backhand and he's usually off balance with his footwork. It's too late now but he would have probably been a better player with a Nalbandian-like two-handed backhand.

For most players like Dimitrov defeating Roger Federer is as important, or sometimes even more important than winning the entire tournament. Its been 8 months almost already... Still remember 10.9., Federer was left with Medvedev, Wawrinka and Dimitrov in the half. I have really seen only Novak as the one who could stop Roger. The three players i mentioned before haven´t had a really good history on hard courts with Roger. Roger had 18-0 with Stan, 6-0 with Dimitrov and 3-0 with Daniil, added up its 27-0 on hard courts, with Dimitrov and Medvedev never beating him on any surface. I have to be honest and to say that i already seen Federer in the semis when i saw he played Dimitrov. In the other half, to be fair, everyone knew that Rafa will be the finalist. Rafa, who lost their last 6 meeting on hard courts and 7/8 played. Last three matches should´ve been easy for Roger. He choked Wimbledon even worse that year with not converting back to back match points on his serve. By winning that Wimbledon (by beating Novak and Rafa) and then winning US, Rafa would have 18, Novak 16 and Roger 22 GS titles and he would be untouchable. I hope I am wrong but i think that those 60 days will be deciding ones when we look in the future at who is the goat.

@jameswalker6864
@jameswalker6864 4 года назад
@@TheIntiruna Federer was never the favorite to win the US Open, Nadal was the clear and undisputable favorite to win the title, especially after Djokovic lost to Wawrinka. Nadal was the betting odds favorite for the US Open title, not Federer. Federer hasn't won the US Open since 2008, that was 12 years ago, and I forgot the last time he had a legit chance to win the title. On the other hand, Nadal has won 4 US Open titles in the 2010s, more than anyone in the decade. Nadal has dominated the USO in the 2010s decade with 4 USO titles, while Federer has won 0 USO titles in the last decade. Nadal is simply a superior USO player than Federer nowadays. The times when Federer dominated the USO are long time lost, Federer is 39. In addition, Nadal leads the H2H over Federer 8-5 in outdoor hard courts and 3-1 in Grand Slam matches on hard courts. Oh, and let's not forget Medvedev. Medvevev's big explosion came in late 2019, when he won 2 Masters 1000 and reached the USO 2019 final. Federer has never faced peak Medvedev, so his H2H with Medvedev is meaningless. I have no doubt that Medvedev was the favorite over 38 years old and slow Federer. Federer wasn't injured when he lost the second set to Dimitrov in the USO quarterfinals, Federer said himself he got injured and suffered back pain in the fourth set. Yet, Medvedev destroyed Dimitrov and defeated him in 3 sets in the USO semifinal. It shows Medvedev was in clearly superior form than 38 years old Federer, injured or not injured.
@jameswalker6864
@jameswalker6864 4 года назад
+Nakic Federer hasn't won 6 of the last 6 meeting on hard against Rafa, nor has he won 7 of the last 8 meetings. Federer has won 5 of the last 6 meetings against Rafa on hard and 6 of the last 8 matches against Rafa. Last 8 meetings between Rafa and Roger: 1. Australian Open 2014: Nadal won in 3 sets 2. Basel 2015: Federer won in 2 sets 3. Australian Open 201/: Federer won in 5 sets 4. Indian Wells 2017: Federer won in 2 sets 5. Miami 2017: Federer won in 2 sets 6. Shanghai 2017: Federer won in 2 sets 7. Roland-Garros 2019: Nadal won in 3 sets 8. Wimbledon 2019: Federer won in 4 sets P. S.: unless you are including the "match" of Indian Wells 2019, but that would be completely deceiving and misleading, because the match never took place. So that was not a match Federer won plating against Rafa, nor does it count in the offical ATP stats of the H2H as an extra victory in the overall H2H.

@@ale03000 nah he will get destroyed by nole.and his slam record will be surpassed by nadal after he win roland garros

He is not injured at all it is false and lie actually as he played Laver cup also so how is that possible. Djokovic is injured that's why he didn't play Laver cup actually. Nadal injured in 2018 US Open thats why he gave up in the end and didn't play after that actually. Federer didn't get injured in Australian open 2020 also After the tournament he is struggling with injuries actually got surgery.

yeah fed's backhand. it was particularly loud and poppy since it was such a clean and powerful hit. that's all the OP was referring to.

If it did next shot would have been a chip and charge because you can’t control the ball if a strings breaks :)

For the exact reason that I was saying all along. It's unrealistic to expect more than 3 minute highlights the day after a match during tournament full swing with many matches going on and a bunch of other videos to create? Do people not get that actual people do these, and that it takes time?

There's a 9-year age difference people, don't forget that. Had he met the prime Roger, he would've had a very slim chance at winning.

I think Federer feels slightly weird seeing basically identical style, identical forehands, backhands, serve and movement on the opposite side

people should understand that this federer's defeat had more to do with his forehand letting him down than physical injury. federer does not need his top form to beat a player he has beaten 7 consecutive times. its his forehand which lets him down in tense matches, for e.g tsitsipas in aus 19. was really looking forward to FEDAL.

His forehand let him down because of injury. He was hitting even easy shots totally out. What was even more affected was his serve. If you watched in the game stats over the match, Federers 1st serve % went way down from the start.

I hope Grigor can bounce back after the split from Nicole Scherzinger. I hope Grigor finds someone who can keep him happy off court so that he can concentrate on court. Grigor Dimitrov is really talented and if can have his head in the right place, he can win a grand slam some day. To prove my case, he is happy off court here (when still with Nicole Scherzinger) and he plays amazing tennis to cause the upset.
