The backhand by Fed at 11:59, just hook that to my veins. That's what makes him the greatest ever. It's nothing about how "beautiful" he plays or whatever, it's responding to a friggin championship point with a completely insane shot like that.

@@POK2008 Rafa's mental strength is the greatest in tennis (with all due respect to another mental GIANT like Djokovic, or even Roger, whose mental strength is underrated). He told that the moment after losing that tie-break was one of the toughest moments for him in a Grand Slam final, but he also told that once the 5th set progressed, he felt stronger and he felt that he was in a better position to win.

Credit to Nadal for recovering to win this one and also to Djokovic for doing it multiple times, because even in older age, the Swiss Maestro manages to find a different level on this court in the big moments. One of the best shots I've ever seen. Not only is he on the full stretch and on the dead run, but look how far back in the court he is. So, not only does he need to place the ball delicately up the line, but he also needs to absolutely rip it because Fed has extra time to react. Oh, and he has to do all that while two points away from his first Wimbledon against a guy who had won five straight. Nadal's combination of physical talent and mental toughness was just otherworldly.

The fact that it finished in near darkness - the trophy presentation and the flashlights of the photographers at the end with Nadal holding the trophy aloft made the match ever more magical and spectacular. There was another match they played at the Australian Open final that I remember for the presentation ceremony because both were so exhausted they were having trouble standing - it was agonising to watch them struggling to stand and leaning on the net to hold themselves up. Nah the best tie-break ever has been played in Wimbledon yes but between Bjorn Borg et John Mc Enroe. In a fourth set tie-breaker that lasted 20 minutes, McEnroe saved five match points (seven altogether in that set) and eventually won 18-16.

I miss this clutchness and fighting spirit from Fed in tiebreaks. And where the peep has that forehand gone?😏
