38 with injury after 2 consecutive 5 set matches ..... can you blame him? He still mustered his best for the first 15min of that match and was beating him in that first set, but then his energy lvls were zapped and barely hit serves over 110mph
It is but at the same time he did this to himself. He had 7 match points and on all 7 he played a cowards style and just kept hitting the ball back. Sometimes you just gotta go big or go home. He went home
Federer was absolutely awful this whole tournament. Never seen him consistently play so badly every set he was bad. His mental strength carried him to the semi finals.
Yah well that happens. I can't imagine what it feels like to be TS. It's unbelievable. But Roger managed to Find a Way too. What a match. And BTW it's not like that BH DTL was going to put Roger in trouble in any way, shape or form.
Well look how much fh Federer has missed in Match points, Even his more confortable combo of serve+fh that it makes him wins tons of easy points became unreliable on tense moments
I think you don't stop being the GOAT by getting older. To me, being the GOAT is not about current form, it's about your whole career. So there's not always a GOAT playing. In 10 years, there probably won't be one on tour. The big 3 will have gone and I don't think anyone will have surpassed their peak or their records.
I take away from this that Novak and Roger have the same game plan when matches are really tight: they just keep the ball in play and count on the other guy to lose his composure. The big difference between the two and how this tactic works for them is that Novak has become an all time great by just keeping the ball in play and Federer has become an all time great with attacking tennis. So it works better for Novak. You can check out the Millman match, the Sandgren match and the Wimbledon final (or the 2018 semi against Rafa): when Roger/Novak is up against the wall they simply don't do any stupid shit and the other guy (Millman, Sandgren, Federer) cracks.
23:50 Very crazy that Sandgren did that with the volley when down the line was open and even if the volley isn't great it forces a brilliant shot from Federer which he didn't need to do from what Sandgren ended up doing with the volley.
he said in his interview right after that he had pain throughout his leg. and now, with double surgery on his knee on that same leg, we know there was a long term issue.
One can see Federer's timing is off, even in the first set. It all went downhill for both after this match. Sandgren dropped out of top 100 mid 2021 and is now ranked 435. Federer only won eight more matches in his career before retiring.
I was going for Tennys in this match. Federer is a legend but how could you not want to see a guy who was only recently playing low level tournaments do so well? Aussies like to say they go for the underdog but that's just bs.
Теннисист одного дня. Когда бьёшь на отмаш, так как нечего терять и всё попадает. Увидим мы когда нибудь успех, победы на турнирах или победы над топовыми игроками от Сандгрена?!
Hmm ... he doesn't look angry here. More a little resigned, knowing he's way off his best and facing an in-form opponent. He looked pretty sheepish after the win. When I think of angry/grumpy matches of his, they often didn't go his way (though the anger could easily be effect, rather than cause) - e.g. the 2018 Indian Wells final against DelPo, his Australian Open QF match against Tsonga in 2013 (he won that in 5) or the US Open final 2009 or his match with Zverev in Shanghai 2019, where he got a very rare point penalty. My own experience with anger is that it doesn't help unless you keep it below the surface. But I guess we're all different.
Um.. where's the ball kid assassin? Where's the code violation warning? The lineswoman? The Chair Umpire? Jeez.. Come on guys, great job removing all the flavour and drama from the match experience smh.. and that's not the sydney morning herald you wallabies.
Because he is 38. Going to be 39 in a couple of days. A person's gotta get slow as he ages, right? And I think he had some traces of injury as well. Mind me, I am not being disrespectful to you. I dont know why, but my sentences kinda sound aggressive😅. But I dont mean disrespect.😊
He’d probably lose- it’s very difficult to play at your very best 2 matches consecutively though the serve and forehand combination could have done some damage (Djokovic wasn’t at his best) overall 9/10 sandgren loses- Djokovic is a machine
Tennys must have won that tennis match ! It is unbelievable , that Sandgren lost against Federer ! If Tennys had beaten Roger , he would have won that " Australian Open 2020 !
What Fed did on Match Points is what Djokovic does to Fed on Big Points and that is just KEEP the ball in play and nothing Spectacular and wait for Fed to Miss easy shots (2019 Wimbeldon for Example)...Fed did same thing to this guy...Usually Federer is EXTRMELY Nervous during Big points later in Career
1:12 rally is the reason Fed hasn't won even more than what he did. He should have attacked on the first forehand, instead the went to the net at the third shot, which was the weakest and easiest to pass. I wish he had been more aware of net coming opportunity, which he creates aplenty with his inside out forehand, especially over the latter stages of his career.
Don't u recognize something u cant believe in your eyes ? ..in dark side thoug there 've been scandal fake bending over game player both or i think wrong when see Gran ..dramaticaly drop himself down in last set and get lose match unbelieveable and unaceptable result ?!! - let us see more vdo from Sandgran thoug .
MAYBE JUST A LITTLE POWDERED SUGAR Don't forget to add that Novak defeated "injured" Roger on that day And as far as sandgren is concerned, he had seven chances to dethrone Federer but this "injured" Federer still made it and put up a fight against Novak
@@sj4632 And of course we all know ultimately that Roger was quite INJURED. Everyone discussed it afterward and that is why Joker was not celebrating during the "match."
I'm a Fed fan here, but I think that out of the big 3, Fed has the worst backhand and that's why he's not the king of the game rn. Not looking for harsh responses from anybody. Just sharing my opinion
Actually he has one of the best Single-handed backhands in tennis. Since the beginning of 2017 he has improved his back hand significantly though Stan Wawrinka stands best when it comes to Single-handed backhand in the game. On the flip side, Roger's forehand has declined over the years precisely from 2nd part of 2018 season though he has struck some electrifying forehands in this match. What Roger lacks is the mental strength of his great 2 rivals otherwise he would have easily won the Big W-2019. He does choke at the crucial moments of a final or for that matter in a tight game, e.g 2018 Indiana Wells final against Del Potro, 2019 Nitto ATP WTF semis against Stefanos Tsitsipas to mention a few. Otherwise he would have broken the record of Jimmy Cornors 109 titles long ago.Just to inform you that, I have started to watch tennis only because of Roger Federer and the day when he hangs up his racket i won't be watching tennis again.
U r right. Nadal backhand is ugly and one dimensional but much more consistent than most players probably due to very hardcore intense training and mental strength. But Roger trained a lot his as well and won AO 2017 due to it
