Still down to earth after all these years of sharing music with his own style. Roger is an exceptional vocalist and guitarist you get 100% every time. Thanks for sharing this.
I took the opportunity to see Roger during the summer of 2011. He tours all over as a solo performer. He sits on the stage and tells stories about the songs then plays them. He has led an interesting, star-crossed life. I wish he would write a comprehensive autobiography which emphasizes his music career. I just learned from a book about Bob Dylan that Roger toured with Bob during 1976 on the "Rolling Thunder" tour.
Nice to hear Roger's Tambourine Man tale. His Rickenbacher and his arrangement, plus the Byrds' harmonies, made this song the pop hit it deserved to be.
Roger McGuinn's one of those rare musicians who still sounds pretty much the same as he did in the 60's... a beautiful version of the song and a great story, as well! Ha ha! I didn't think it was that shaky, really. Thanks for uploading.
THIS THIS THIS! Roger McGuinn should bring his Rickenbacker and this mic setup on as many of his interviews as possible. the 7-string acoustic just doesn't cut it. If he repeated the formula used on this occasion he would inspire a whole new generation of young artists and fans, because to this day NO ONE has ever really duplicated the unique combination of his voice combined with electric 12 string guitar. It's magic and timeless and I LOVE it!
Boy we need to get some real musicians like this as we might start losing the great ones in years to come. All the rap garbage and hip-hop nonsense is hardly music, with the auto tune and all. Thank goodness there is RU-vid so we can see these videos.
Irishgal777 Listen Brother, there was a time when Roger McGinn and the best of the Byrds were in the same place you're putting Hip-Hop Music as it's known by today, and Rock survived, so will Hip-Hop...its all music in different forms. There is no need to down a whole genre of music because it does not fit into your idea of what music is, and how it should be played. Get over yourself. I'm 64 years old and witnessed it all come into play. I listen to what I like and let the rest of it just be.
It's all this rap electronic crap. They can't sing, can't play instruments, and it all sound the same. I run in to a kid now and then that has some musical sense, so there's hope. The radio tells you almost what they want you to hear. But if you play someone who's never heard actual music, McGuinn or some others they really see what they're missing.
Rap is crap, simple as that! Degrading to women, vulgar words, they get away with the N word! And so much more. I will never understand it. Long live Rock!
A marvelous and gifted guitar and singer. When Dylan was at first starting, he was the prolific writer of folk rock, and several of Bobs songs helped some good bands get better, or get started!! McGwinn also helped Dylan some!! This was years ago and is now Rock n Roll legendary history!!
It was some very small place called Jewish center. I met him after, we were told not to talk to him, not to touch him, I did anyway, said I love you Roger, he smiled at me and signed my ticket.
