This one looks like the best if cost isn’t a factor. But it’d be great to see a full bench show down. Especially since some people might like to know which is the best value and which is the cheapest bench worth buying.
That bench looks very impressive. The 7 gauge steel is amazing. My Rep AB 5200 and Rep FB 5000 are great benches, and it's hard to believe that there is something more beefy than them. I'm not going to get this, but I am probably going to look at it online for a few hours.
Been using my blackwing as my daily driver for a few weeks now and its great. Im positive my fiancé would leave me if i bought the manta ray too lol. Love your videos, thank you for the great content.
Won’t lie, this was one of my favorite reviews from Gluck! It was informative and liked the positives pointed out and how he makes the personal inputs and really brought out the points that matter and shared good points and upgrades. The leg roll was also really nice and gets bonus points for showing the behind the ladder carriage! Well done and good job
I agree with that on some items. I think here the combination of American made and upping the level and steel and the high quality of manufacturing puts this up with other high end benches like Sorinex. I'd take this over some of the stuff from Hammer Strength, Life Fitness, Cybex and other commercial players if you're in that level of the market.
rogue is the best plac I to buy unless u want something extra bougie when considering - great product design, great quality great service and delivery speed, best after sale customer service, best resale. Made in USA. this applies to nearly all of their USA made products
@@avinashtyagi2 or someone who has money and is looking to use the greatest bench (that's not ultra high end like Irwin, WS, straydog etc) and can resell it for nearly 90% of the purchase price
Awesome review! I didn’t realize this was using 4x3 7 gauge steel, that helps put the price into context. Do I need a bench this stout? No. Do I want it? Absolutely.
I've had this bench for about 2 months. Fantastic bench. Huge upgrade from my decade old Rogue flat bench, which was like 200 when I purchased it. Buy Rep to save money. Buy Rogue for American made and a product that will last, essentially, forever. My only regret is not waiting to purchase it so I could use your affiliate link and help you out.
Thank you Adrian for such an incredible review of the Manta Ray Bench! I totally agree on the knurled handles and colour options which I hope Rogue will provide these options at the Manta Ray Version 2.0 with some improvements. As expensive as it is, the Manta Ray is more sturdy and the leg pads are stronger to do incline and nordic curls. This actually gave me the idea of getting rid of my wall mount GHD as I can also do Nordic Curls on this Manta Ray Bench. Thank you Adrian again for answering my concerns if this Manta Ray Bench wobbles side to side which it does not (by tightening the screws correctly) and giving us the most interesting and updated reviews!
Should I be concerned the foot catcher on the Rep blackwing comes across as inferior to the Manta Ray? Is the Rep foot catcher uncomfortable to use for decline work, which I want to do a lot of, aswell as using the other features the bench has.? Is the manta foot catcher worth the extra $$$
Rogue listening to feedback about the leg roller attachment is helpful. I've seen they've recently introduced a red option. Would love a stainless steel handle and colour option for this bench like with the adjustable 3.0
Made the commitment and ordered the Manta Ray Bench along with the leg roller attachment a few weeks back...the numerous upgrades from the Adjustable 2.0 Bench were too difficult to pass up (and that thing's a tank itself). Was looking forward to this review and it added more reassurance of where my money went especially hearing of all the final upgrades from the prototype that Matt reviewed. Thanks Gluck and Winnie for the honest review👌
Great review. Wouldn't mind spending a couple more bills for the Rogue but hard to justify twice as much. One good thing is it makes the 6 bills for the batwing look like a bargain. 😅
Love a nice tight crack. Best part was when you stuck the rep in the rogue. Asserted true dominance. I want to sell My 3.0 for the manta, badly. Want the 12 inch pad and ability to do decline bench and ab work and Nordic’s. May god bless me with a small fortune in the near future amen
Thanks for the great review my friend! I own REP’s Black Wing and am very happy with it. Not sure if I was in the market today that I could justify spending $500 more on the Rogue bench. I probably would still go with the BlackWing. Thanks again for the review. V/R Shane
@@avinashtyagi2 100%. I guess if someone has to have the top of the line then go get the Manta. However, the BlackWing is the last bench you will ever need to own IMO.
If I didn't have this channel I'd have never been able to justify it but idc how people spend their money. If they're happier and healthier for it then go for it, it's an exceptional piece. Appreciate the support!
Ordered it. I definitely do not need something this robust but buying it for life. I am sure 5 years from now I won’t notice miss the $600 but might question not getting this beauty. Hopefully link worked and Glucks get the commission.
Damn! That was a great review! I wasn’t in the market for a new bench… until now. Damn it!! (I also can’t wait for the Irwin bench review!!). Great job again!
@Glucksgym The thing I can see that I like better besides the price about the "Rep blackwing" is the stabilizing Post isn't there. I like that for doing barbell or curl bar spider curls. You show doing them with dumbbells but sometimes it might be nice to use a bar without having it hit when you lower the bar. Great Job on the reviews though!!
Rogue just released the Manta Ray in red color. Just placed order for it today. Only thing holding me back was the lack of color options. Now I am stoked to receive it!
You've been subbed for a year and that's the first time you noticed we drop the safeties for b rolls? People complain they're in the way of the equipment so we keep those lifts light 😘
also got an idea for something to review. How about deadlift jacks. could do a comparo of a couple different kinds and price points (and vs the old 2.5lb plate)
I wish I could afford either the Manta ray or Black Eing, but I think I’m gonna have to go with the AB4100 when I build out my gym this Black Friday. Love tge review though! Thanks Gluck😊
Hopefully they will do a premium option with all stainless steel contact points. Like they did for the AB 3.0. I don't like the single point of contact ladder design even if its covered with whmw. I would prefer a stainless ladder on the outside.
Both of these look like winners. The black wing is more than enough for anyone, but who doesn’t love a good overbuilt bench like the manta ray. Great comparison y’all!
How is the Manta Ray with incline presses vs. the Blackwing? I ask because the Blackwing allows the seat pad to be angled upwards towards the lifter which holds your butt in place during heavy incline presses. The Manta Ray has a less precise seat adjustment which appears to allow the user to slide forward during heavy incline presses.
Hey Gluck - awesome review. Just subscribed! How difficult is it to pick up & wheel around the manta ray? I want to order it but my fiancé is concerned she won’t be able to pick it up and move it around in our home gym.
Great thorough review, thanks. I do have one question, though. Are you able to do hip thrusts on the blackwing without putting it up against the wall like you can with manta ray?
If I were building a home gym from scratch with unlimited budget, this is what I would get. Instead I'll just have to be happy with my AB-4100. Either way, if you ever come visit, Wynie won't be able to complain about moving the bench around.
Very detailed and informative review. I currently own the Rep AB 5200 and the Rep Fitness AB 3000 2.0. I am going to get rid of my AB 3000 because I want another bench that can store upright. Unfortunately not all of us have a ranch size garage like you guys and can store 750 benches. That being said I have researched and researched and still can't make a decision, and when I discuss it with my wife she just gets a glazed intoxicated look in her eyes as soon as I discuss anything to do with my gym. I really want to purchase the Sorinex adjustable bench for the only reason to be different than everyone else? But I can not find any reviews on it? It looks well built as most Sorinex equipment, and do I really want another piece of equipment from Rogue? I don't know everyone seems to like this bench, maybe I will see if I have enough patience to wait until they offer a variety of colors to match my Gym. (red and black). I think you would of made a great car salesman you sure know how to sell a product even though you are not selling anything. (just reviewing). Thanks for the review!
The real question is it a 40% better bench? To justify the 40% price difference to the Blackwing. If it’s only 10% better it doesn’t make sense unless of course you’re a bench historian or collector.
Alas not sold by Rogue's Australian importer. Nor is their Utility Bench 2.0. On the plus side they did recently import the Monster leg rollers, after starting to carry the Monster line in October '22, so perhaps things are improving slowly.
Are there any adjustable benches with leg curl/leg extension besides Iron Master? That is a huge factor for home gym IMO as I can't get that with rack attachments and a dedicated leg extension/curl machine takes up a lot of space.
Bells has one we've reviewed. It's a decent bench, here's our review ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FbhkC69hJ-o.html Rep is supposed to make an attachment but it's been years and I haven't seen it yet
I use the Powertech but I wouldn't recommend it unless you want the tower that it attaches to. BlkBox makes a rack attached leg Ex/curl¿ If I had to buy a new one I might just get the Bodypower ub100.
These benches are getting ridiculous. A bench half the weight (like Ironmaster) can do the same job for 99% of lifters. I wouldn't say this bench is a rip off, you do get what you pay for, it's just that almost nobody needs that. Rep has been much better at targeting the heart of the market. With stuff like this Rogue will end up being a niche player. I'd really like to support Rogue and American manufacturing, but they are increasingly putting out stuff I'm not interested in.
The issue is funding them. I reviewed their roller cups but videos like that are big financial losses for the channel. Until the channel gets much larger it'll be hard to cover everything
I think this is their evolution of the 3 and they make more money on new products rather than revising them. They also don't seem to like to revise things 😂
Damn Gluck I think you convinced me to go Manta Ray over Blackwing. Feel bad about my leanings because those bastards at Rogue still haven't given you a Canadian affiliate link....lots to ponder
The Rogue bench looks really nice, arguably the quality can't be touched, but when considering the price, range of adjustment, wide pad for my fat ass and zero gap I'd likely go for the Blackwing.
