Rogue Slinger: bit.ly/3ob6ED5
When I first did my Slinger overview I mentioned how I wasn't a fan of the band tension and thought a plate loaded option would work much better. Well earlier this week Rogue released this attachment for the Monster line and I bought one to test it out. My thoughts might surprise you...

Rogue should just make a high/ low pulley attachment for the back of the rack.

Seems far too over rogues head right now. Their designers seem not the brightest. Stivk to bars and racks. Anythiing with too many moving parts or pulleys seems to be too confusing for rogue. Looks like they are making some great purses, totes and trinkets. Who doesn't want a dog leash that says rogue

It's crazy to me that a company like Rogue can't figure this out. I'm curious how they test these products, because this has obvious flaws that someone who actually works out would notice immediately. I'm a Rogue fan and have a ton of their equipment, but they are dropping the ball.

So I just had a thought about this. If you purchased a shackle (with a hitch pin for quick swaps), a $15 pulley, and a short section of cable, you could use the slinger to have an extremely low profile high-low cable setup. In fact, if you used a section of chain between the slinger and the low pulley you could adjust the length and be able to place the shackle anywhere along the upright. Thus giving you essentially a fully adjustable half-cable cross station that's micro-loadable just like a barbell.

Bit disappointing that you have to muck around so much when paying a premium. Having different length bungee and cable seems like it would address most of these issues, but you’d probably be better off with some kind of pin loaded add on for the rack but space doesn’t always allow for that. I really like that Prime rack that Coop has with all this on it.

Prime is OK but would rather have a nice rack and separate lat low row... Thete are many companies that have done what prime has done but with a much better rack... Sorinex, rogue has rack attached real lat pulldowns, legend, Samson, dynamic have better designs than prime. Not a new idea at all

I got the slinger The prime Fitness seat Prime Fitness low row attachment And I have jammer arms that I move inside the rack instead of out. I had some custom weight horns made for the jammer arm. So what I do is, I angle the jammer to where the lowest point is parallel to the slinger. Using a shackle I attach it to the slinger and attach the weight horns to the jammer arms. Man, I’m telling you, it works pretty darn smooth. Feels like a legit lat pulldown.

Strike Three for Rogue. I emailed them inquiring about the Slinger Attachment with Weight Stack. Their website was a little confusing as i was trying to figure out the configuration. I thought maybe they'd include two extra posts in which the weight stack would rest. Nope. The weight stack rests in between the EXISTING posts which would interfere with ANY type of movement within the cage itself, ie squats, presses, bench, etc. This totally defeats the purpose of having the power cage in the FIRST place. Very poor design and i am disappointed that they didn't design it with the weight stack towards the REAR of the rack. Now with competitors like Spud Inc there is ZERO reason for me to spend any money on this attachment. I am even re-considering the purchase of my Rogue rack itself, since there are competitors with a better design. Really don't know WHAT they were thinking.....if they were thinking AT ALL...... ??
@BasementBrandon

Yeah for the weight stack you'd have to have a 6 post rack IMO

Those spud inc pulley things are kinda a rip off. Yes, they work ok. But you can build a practically identical setup for like 30$ at lowes.i had actually already been using one for over a year before they released theirs. I got the idea off an old ass youtube video. Probably the same video they saw.... I wish I had thought of selling them lol. These rack mount pulleys never seem to work that great. If you have the room you can find some pretty solid wall mount systems for well under 500$. I think it was valor fitness that had one for like 225. That was pre covid though so who knows what they are now. I found a single tower free standing one that was originally like 350-400$ on fb marketplace for like 50$. You can get pretty lucky sometimes on the used market if you keep checking it regularly. I got almost all of my 900+ lbs worth of plates used too for around 50 cents a lb or less, except for like 2 sets of 45s and a set of 25s. They are a nice and pretty accurate, just rubber coated and the rubber on a bunch of them is pretty rough.

Def true, however most people are willing to pay more for the convenience of having someone else do something for them.

Anyway to stabilize your lower body to perform an actual lat pulldown? I was thinking using the single leg roller but that it'll only keep one leg in place.

I would definitely skip this product and the band loaded version. Patience would say wait for the plate stack to eventually make it's way to the market - assuming that you actually own an extended rack system. As of right now, I am making due with old stuff that I have in my basement, but would like to upgrade as I go, and possibly wean myself from the pay to play gyms before I retire in a few years. This means replacing the old school power rack, and lat pulldown; both of which are 30+ year old Michigan made Wate-Man products. Probably looking at a good $6,000 - $7,000. If I'm spending that kind of money, I'm not buying crap for the sake of buying something. It will have to work correctly, or I'm not buying it.

The plate stack version has come out for the RML series, but is too expensive. When you factor in cost for that and the slinger, you could get a really good dedicated lat/low row tower.

The Slinger is a waste of time and $$$. You could just use bands by them selves and simulate the same thing without all the added attachments.

I don't understand the appeal of the Slinger at all. As a Rogue rack owner I would never get this thing. If you can't get a lat pull machine, then a Spud or similar pulley is more useable, cheaper, and doesn't get in the way of all the movements and doesn't conflict with safety straps. I like Rogue, but hard pass on the Slinger.

@@Pler1978 Not true. It depends on space. There's nothing high end about that Slinger. It's a piece of shit. Theres nothing "high end" about a basic monster rack with a shit slinger attached. Rogue is being outgunned by Rep in every possible way for someone looking to maximize their space with a garage gym. I could have easily bought a Rogue rack but its specs are dated. If you owned a bunch of Sorinex equipment I'd understand the smugness, but you dont. It's time to hop off of Rogues nuts brah.

I think less is better with gym equipment. Keep the equipment simple, less moving parts and set up. Lots of gimmicks coming from rogue these past years. They’re trying to think of new items to sell and it’s getting repetitive.

While I do agree with the two you mentioned, I was leaning towards the trolley systems and lever arms. Those are pointless and might as well just bench press or bent over row. To spend all the money on these accessories when you can just use the traditional way of lifting is a much wiser route to take.

I don't see why companies don't use this design: images.app.goo.gl/1f1vTNh2s9MrqwX98 It's got a slightly bigger footprint, but you don't have to move anything out of the way if you want to bench or squat.

@@BasementBrandon The Ironmaster cable tower has a very small footprint. You can look up it up on their website. You can detach the seat and it's got wheels you can use to store it away. I own it and it's working flawlessly. If you dont need their bench, you can get a separate small attachable lat pulldown seat.
