I have been working out for approximately 50 years. I'm now retired and thus have more time and ability to work out consistently. I work part time at my local YMCA so I have a free membership (with a well-equipped weight room) there - also I have another free membership at my local Planet Fitness (which I really never use). Nevertheless, over the years I have accumulated a bunch of equipment (and still come across deals where some guy sells me $1000 worth of equipment for $100). I own my home and I have limited indoor space but a large covered patio where all my equipment is currently located. During the pandemic (with gym closures) I worked out totally at home. After the gyms reopened I went back to them, but now I get a little tired of the crowds and I also want to experiment with working out at various times of day (including late at night), so I am back to only working out at home. I am very accustomed to working out alone and actually prefer it most times, but you're correct, the comradery at the gyms is valuable also. In fact I agree with everything you said about the pros and cons of having a home gym. I will add one more con: exercise equipment is heavy, bulky stuff which can be a burden if you ever have to move or want to reorganize your home - thus it becomes a bit of a liability.
my question is are you able to use versa gripz or straps with the pepins? Seems like the rails might be in the way. Do you find the rails to be an issue when trying to use straps?
Did yours somehow restricted your blood flow/circulation in the beginning? I have worn them in the gym, putting them on was hard, but with long socks they came up in 20 seconds. However after 8-10 mins my feet started to get numb. I followed the Pioneer chart.
I have the valor fitness half rack BD-58with storage,Im sure this was way cheaper than the rouge cages and it's perfect for lifting alone. With 400lbs of weight out of a possible 750 on this half rack. Its not going anywhere..
I am planning on getting a new powerlifting barbell, considering cerakote ( has good knurl based on review), hard chrome and stainless steel shaft ( sleeves hc), which one should b the best for long run I mean no scratches less rusting chances n all..??
I got the arch nemesis and it didn't fit my rack for my home gym and it was slimmer than I thought the width for the grips would be. Unfortunately im sending it back and will get the Titan cambered barbell
Another gimmick “solution” looking for a problem. Nobody is going to break a record and attribute this $4,000 piece of gear to their success. Bands and chains already exist.
Gym.. have to deal with teenagers or university brats. Pseudo "alpha" goofs. People getting angry over how you squat or if you do or don't. Raging losers if you use the legpress machine. Always angered losers. Giving a bar or machine over to someone because they are angered. Gyms.. SUCK!! SUCK THE BIG ONE. I used to like gyms.. they're ALL CRAP.
The raised heel will benefit if you want to place more effect from squats to the quadriceps. From the study "Effect of Heel Lift Insoles on Lower Extremity Muscle Activation and Joint Work during Barbell Squats" The results showed that when the heel was raised, the participant’s ankle dorsiflexion angle significantly decreased, and the percentage of ankle work was increased. In addition, there was a significant increase in activation of the vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, and gastrocnemius muscles and a decrease in muscle activation of the anterior tibialis muscle.
I made a limited run of them for people who are part of Basement Barbell Club then sold the remaining through my site. They went pretty quick so maybe I'll do another run.
I usually bring a few gatorades, big bottles of water, and a box of poptarts. Drink the gatorade/water through out and eat a 2 pack of poptarts between each discipline.
This is great for people that go up and down in weight often. My waist goes from 36 to 32 inches so I'm looking into getting this during cuts. I'd be interested to see one of those thinner bodybuilding or oly-weightlifting style belts use this mechanism
I am about to install stall mats in my basement gym and was wondering if you could give me any tips on how you installed your mats around your support poles? In the video yours look seamless around the poles. Thanks!
It may be in an older video, but I basically cut a square that will be the size of the pole (like 4"x4") in the exact spot it will fall on the mat. I then cut a single seam to the nearest edge so that I can basically wrap it around the pole.
