Before this movie came out, people would make jokes about how the Deathstar was stunningly easy to destroy. This movie turned that on its head by making it purposeful sabotage by the designer, on top of being such a wonderful movie that makes you feel like Star Wars is actually... a War. I've never gotten through the end of the battle scene without crying.

that's why this movie to me and probably a lot of other star wars fans is in their top 5 star wars movies . i knew a lot of people wanted this story to be told since the rouge 1 rebels where mentioned in A New Hope as a small band of rebels gave their lives to get the plans for the death star to the rebellion

@@user-xx6vy9ri8p It was a big operation by the rebel alliance to get in position for pilots to attack it, yes. @@andymiller6661 Why?
@andymiller6661
@andymiller6661 Год назад
@@aldiascholarofthefirstsin1051 Why, because the director and writers didn't fix mistakes. How, though: They're all to aware in writing and pacing that we know generally how the movie ends. But instead of dealing with the forgone conclusion that they will steal and deliver the plans no matter what by slowing down and developing the characters, they're violently propelled from action to action with no real actual or natural progression in relationships. Jyn goes from yelling at Cassian to quoting him passionately and Cassian goes from cold blooded killer to organizing a suicide squad for her because he chose not to kill the one person he was specifically ordered to kill, which was her father. And he had good reasons for not killing him, I'm sure Bor gullet was used, despite him making people go crazy, to learn the truth. Yet nothing comes of that truth gathering scene. When the X-Wings attacked Jyn's fathers position, we're told that they can't be called off because they're already committed. Nonsense. No shots were fired yet, and there's apparently instantaneous two way interstellar communications in Star Wars and with that squadron, so there's plenty of time to call them off. Even if there wasn't, there's nothing to prevent one of the X-Wings from hovering over the pad for a few seconds and sweeping the pad clear of enemies while his squad mates covered him. The end battle scenes went from "Cool visuals, I guess," to, "Seriously?" The inclusion of Red and Gold Leaders, obviously limited to what they could cull from cut angles meaning the almost the same exact lines from A New Hope was jarring. Then there's the out of place Mos Eisley jerks somehow being on Jedha, being jerks on Jedha because they have to cram some random cameo in the movie, just for them to leave Jedha immediately after being jerks and going straight to Tattoine, without freaking out over almost being killed by the Death Star. Pretty much everyone died in an explosion immediately after serving their one purpose in the movie, which was to flip a switch. And some of those switches were outside and exposed to the elements for no reason. And the antenna was out of alignment for no reason, and somehow transmitted to everyone yet just the rebel flagship, which had Leia's ship in it for some reason. And let's not forget that C-3PO and R2-D2 were in the Yavin hangar when everyone left yet on Leia's ship when it got boarded not much longer later. Also, the battle scenes was ridiculous. The rebels had the element of surprise, yet they didn't immediately start shooting everything on sight upon exiting lightspeed. There was no general plan and at most minimal coordination. Orders were given sporadically, instead of rapid fire. There was no shooting between the capital ships and minimal firing from the capital ships. There was no bombing or bombardment of the Imperial structure surrounding the shield opening. There were no squadrons of fighters firing volleys of torpedoes, just random fighters almost casually flying about and shooting at the occasional target. There were a total of 3 star destroyers in orbit around Scarif and yet not one deployed any troops to reinforce the surface. Instead, they just let the surface fend for itself and eventually Tarkin destroyed the Empire's own base, despite only some rebels being on the surface and despite the rebels already getting the plans. And fuck the rest of the data stored there, right? That's not important anymore for some reason. Vader's scene at the end was supposed to be orgasmicilly amazing, yet it's a let down and shows him to be incompetent. He dramatically took his time and turned off his life support and almost casually walked down the hall killing fools, instead of being mister badass sith and using the Force to brush everyone to the side and at least trying to Force grab the plans or using the Force to at least try stopping Leia's ship. Then he's standing in the vacuum of space like his suit is rated for that.

@Ockerlord
@Ockerlord Год назад
@@marcus_ohreallyus There was a study about so called spoilers: "Writers use their artistry to make stories interesting, to engage readers, and to surprise them, but we found that giving away these surprises makes readers like stories better. This was true whether the spoiler revealed a twist at the end (e.g., that the condemned man’s daring escape is just a fantasy as the rope snaps taut around his neck) or solved the crime (e.g., Poirot discovers that the apparent target of attempted murder was in fact the perpetrator). It was also true when the spoiler was more poetic, as when frisky adolescents watching a couple struggle with a baby are revealed to be previewing their own futures, and the couple glimpsing their own pasts. In all these types of stories, spoilers may allow readers to organize developments, anticipate the implications of events, and resolve ambiguities that occur in the course of reading. It is possible that spoilers enhance enjoyment by actually increasing tension. Knowing the ending of Oedipus Rex may heighten the pleasurable tension caused by the disparity in knowledge between the omniscient reader and the character marching to his doom. This notion is consistent with the assertion that stories can be reread with no diminution of suspense (Carroll, 1996). Although our results suggest that people are wasting their time avoiding spoilers, our data do not suggest that authors err by keeping things hidden. Stories that open by revealing outcomes may lead readers to anticipate additional revelations at the end; in other words, readers do not expect a story to provide complete premature knowledge of its ending the way an external source might. Indeed, it was only spoilers external to the stories that enhanced readers’ delight; there was no benefit to our editing the stories themselves. Erroneous intuitions about the nature of spoilers may persist because individual readers are unable to compare spoiled and unspoiled experiences of a novel story." "Subjects significantly preferred spoiled over unspoiled stories in the case of both the ironic twist stories (6.20 vs. 5.79), p = .013, Cohen’s d = 0.18, and the mysteries (7.29 vs. 6.60), p = .001, d = 0.34. The evocative stories were appreciated less overall, likely because of their more expressly literary aims, but subjects again significantly preferred spoiled over unspoiled versions (5.50 vs. 5.03), p = .019, d = 0.22. In all three story types, incorporating spoiler texts into stories had no effect on how much they were liked, ps > .4." So it is more than likely that this remark actually increased their enjoyment of the movie.

If yo think about it, she has a tragic life - her early life as a little kid is in secutirty, then she watches her mum killed in front of her and is sperated from her dad. She then has to grow up (through puberty no less) whilst "looked after" by Saul's guerillas. She's arrested and sentenced to a labour camp, see's her dad die in front of her; and then dies herself whiclst barely in her twenties. Ah, perfect timing to be watching this film since the premiere of Andor is near. And you are correct. Tarkin's was CG to make it look like Peter Cushing was back from the dead, so to speak. Same for Leia at the end, only this came out before her death on December 26th of that year (and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, died the next day). For Tarkin, Guy Henry provided the voice, and Leia saying "hope" at the end was archived audio of Carrie Fisher in the Original Trilogy. And yes, again, that was James Earl Jones, but Hayden wasn't in the suit for this film. They had two different people for the two scenes he was in. Edit: Well, next up in the films is Solo, and then you have the Sequel Trilogy, plus you have Clone Wars, Rebels, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and of course, Andor, and there's also gonna be Acolytes (possibly, if we get any trailers or news about that) and Ahsoka. @TaeTen Min Dude everyone says TFA was only ruined when Rian Johnson made TLJ, but TFA is such an objectively terrible film. The first thing Disney should have done when writing a continuation to a beloved saga, is to immediately show how the galaxy evolved after the Original Trilogy, show Luke, Han, and Leia rebuilding the New Republic. Have the politics of this new galaxy, and show Luke’s new Jedi order. Instead JJ Abrams immediately erased every single accomplishment of the first six movies in just the opening crawl. He made a complete carbon copy of ANH because he has no creativity. I can never forgive him for just killing Luke’s Jedi order offscreen and just recreating the empire but even worse. Then you got Finn who acts like a minstrel show even though he supposedly has PTSD and was trained at birth to be a brainwashed killer. And then JJ called everyone who doesn’t like Rey “sexists”.

It’s crazy how important this movie is to the main story of Star Wars, and it reinforces the credibility of the original movie A New Hope. You never really understood how they got the plans for the Death Star in the first place, and didn’t understand why they would build such a vulnerable weak spot. This movie explained that in a way that didn’t feel forced or added in after the fact to fill in a plot hole, even though it’s exactly what it did. In my opinion, Rogue One was one of the best Star Wars movies ever made. And it’s a stand alone movie with basically almost no characters we ever see again. It’s a story of true sacrifice and bravery for the rebellion and the fight against the Empire and tyranny. It did such a good job of explaining so many things, and it’s actually insane how perfectly and seamlessly it leads right into the start of Episode 4. So much so that if you didn’t know a single thing about Star Wars, including when the original even came out, and you decided to watch it in story order, so 1,2,3,rogue one,4,5,6,7,8,9 and you watched the version someone put out editing rogue one and episode 4 together into one movie where they cut the end credits scene off of rogue one, and the intro scene of a new hope so that it went from the last scene of rogue one to the first scene of ANH, it would transition so flawlessly the only thing you’d think was “wait, why does this movie suddenly now look like it’s much older?” Like you wouldn’t even realize it was a different movie. The only tell is that you’re going from the quality of a movie released in 2016, to the quality of a movie released in 1977. If all Star Wars movies had the same quality, you’d never even notice the transition to a totally different movie. And that’s the only thing I hate about when I rewatch the movies in chronological order. You go from pretty decent quality and CGI with episodes 1-3, to much better quality and CGI in Rogue One, then way back to not so great quality and basically no CGI or pretty sub par CGI in 4-6, to back to really good quality and CGI with 7-9. It also throws you off too because the lightsaber duels in 4-6 are very “boring” in their complexity and in how the characters move and fight vs how they are in 1-3 and 7-9. Vader and Obi Wan it can kinda make sense because they’re much older now so they aren’t as agile and nimble and strong as before in 4-6, but seeing Luke fight in a similar way just a LITTLE more agile still looks odd. Sure you could also explain that with him not really having had proper training, but it’s just odd to go from Jedi and Sith having these great choreographed skillful light saber duels in 1-3, then Vader showing still great skill in rogue one, to the lackluster duels in 4-6. To the more choreographed duels again in 7-9. Even though the duels in 7-9 weren’t that great either, I mean even Phin and Rey who were both untrained with a lightsaber were able to wield it and look like they could move around with it better than anyone in episodes 4-6. And the reason for that was because of how they had to create the lightsabers in 4-6. They were extremely fragile sticks with reflective tape on them so they could be tracked and have effects put on them in post so the super fast movements would have made it very difficult to do so. In fact there’s still frames where you can see they weren’t able to catch it and they aren’t lit up right. So imagine if they had better faster duels they would’ve missed a lot more. But it’s just odd to see the difference and it suddenly looks like no one knows how to use a light saber properly in 4-6 and then in 7 Rey and Phin suddenly look just as controlled as Luke did if not more so at some points. I mean Rey is kinda understandable because she used a stick already and was skilled with swinging that around, but Phin didn’t have any of that and while yeah he didn’t look great, just the speed he was swinging it around at was suddenly much faster than it was being swung around by Vader, Obiwan, and even Luke in 4-6 which is just funny.

Not only a great Star Wars film, but up there with some of the best war films. Seeing this in the theater, it struck me that I was watching a very well done war movie that just happened to be set in space. The gritty, raw nature of the production was the perfect choice, the characters were almost flawlessly designed and executed, and the connection into lore & elsewhere was done in a very meaningful way. I couldn’t help but feel more for EP 4, and how well it fit into the puzzle. The Force is with me, and I am with the Force.

Saw Guerera is an interesting character. he shows up in clone wars and then much later in this. In RO he's basically the rebellion's version of darth vader. So blown to pieces he's just a mass cybernetics. Whereas, being a sith, Vader draws strength from the pain and hatred of his condition, Saw seems completely worn down and just finished.
