Hi I made some videos with my Juno G Sound Designs , the Sound Design possibilities are very Deep. I Love this instrument www.youtube.com/@Only-Juno-G

Nice review. Picked up a Juno-G in very nice condition (w/replaced screen). I also use it with a fully weighted keyboard (Korg D1) and love the sounds. So many lush and complex pads to complement the Korg piano. I also have a Roland Jupiter Xm, but there is something special about this board.

I still have my Juno-G and still use it together with my Nord Stage. It's incredible how powerful the Juno-G was, and actually still is today, considering its price at the time. They included basically everything, the only thing that was missing was sample pads and they added them with a software update using the buttons below the screen. It can record audio, it has a full featured sequencer, Live Settings allow to recall live with the push of a button complex setups of 16 sounds that can be split and layered in any way and distributed on external keyboards based on midi channels as well, and you can save a different sequencer song with each Setting... It's just as Roland realized it was too powerful for the price, they've never done anything similar for years in that price range, its successors like the Juno-D or Gi were just synths while this was a powerful and complete workstation with a sequencer with audio recording, sample editing, master keyboard functions, programmable arpeggiator, lots of effects that allowed for complex effect routing (it also had two separate exits and you could route sounds and effects independently) and a very powerful sound synthesis engine. Last but not least, with a very intuitive and easy to use user interface, many concepts are still used in the Fantom today. It had a problem with the screen which broke easily, there's a guy in UK that sells after market screens (he makes them with an Arduino), and you could make them yourself as the project is on GitHub, I bet that you can buy them in the US as well.

Great Video! I have a Juno G and I wouldn't sell it, the sound design possibilities are very Deep! Thank you for presenting it!

Absolutely 💯!!!! It's a pretty good keyboard. I've had a lot of fun on it so far. It has definitely earned a spot in the studio!!!!! Thanks!

I just got one with a broken screen super cheap but I like the feel of it and what sounds I can select, without a screen so far are pretty good. Zero USB compatibility on Mac so going old school midi.

Yeah mine was acting up with the screen. However I was able to readjust the brightness on the back and it fixed tge glitching for me. Honestly if you got a good deal on it then it's a really good board. I did the same running old midi is the easiest definitely did the trick for me. Hopefully you get some good use out of it!!!

New screen costs $200, but hardly you will use Juno-G for anything more than sound module. It's old, slow (especially if you try to use audio tracks) and certain features (drum machine, chord memory) are limited. Nevertheless it has a linear midi sequencer, and arpeggiator is programmable unlike in the newest and expensive Fantom.

@@alicaramba7680 We can get a replacement for £60 here in the UK, or $76. I'm happy with using it just for the sounds alone and playing it live, ignoring all the bells and whistles.

The Juno G was one of my all time favorite board! But the materials Roland used to build was terrible. The first thing that goes out, is the screen and the volume pots or knobs. But Cheers to an amazing board!

I have a juno g with a dud sceen. My boy started learning and is using it. Found an aftermarket screen dor $100. Should i fix it or put it towards a keyboard with a hammer action?
@GammaLensMedia
@GammaLensMedia 3 месяца назад
Honestly that's a tough one. If you're wanting him to learn piano, hammer action is very good. However, the capabilities of sound in the Juno G are really good as well. Honestly I'd fix the screen see if there is interest in playing before buying something with hammer action. If he's really interested then you can advance from there.

Juno-G is no good for learning to play. Its keyboard is springy and with smaller keys than normal. In fact you (or your kid) can hurt your fingers trying to play or learn how to play like it is a piano. On the other hand, it could be very useful for learning ins and outs of music production but a working display is a must ($200) and learning curve is very steep for beginners, plus it is old, slow and incompatible with modern DAW setups which are common these days.

@alicaramba7680 Thanks for the advice. He seems more interested in the sounds it makes than anything production related. He is progressing fast though. I've ordered an aftermarket screen quite cheap but it's not a 5 minute job. I'll have to invest in a proper electric piano I think.
@TommasoPaba
@TommasoPaba Месяц назад
@@ivana6141if he is interested in the sounds, you need a synthesizer so he can start learning how to create sounds himself, something that he would never learn on an electric piano. The Juno is also a very powerful synthesizer. However, to start playing with the sounds and learning sound synthesis, he needs the screen, and since you already bought it, I would repair it. Download the manual and give it to him, it's essential to learn what he can do with the instrument. After some time, you will notice if he is not interested in music production or synthesizers and just wants to learn classical or jazz or whatever needs a piano keyboard, and in that case you can invest in an electric piano and sell the Juno, or even better buy an electric piano and keep the Juno. You have a very powerful instrument and it would be a pity to sell it if he starts playing with a band or gets interested in music production, although for music production he would probably use a computer.

I have the Roland Ji and to be honest the only thing i really like about it is the string sounds and lead sounds.... Roland Jo Gi and such has the same base synth card as the more expensive synths but in a cheaper box.

@@GammaLensMedia I make various styles tbh, I also have a korg kronos, an old jp8080 run cubase pro 13 with a load of vst's. I grew up with hardware synths but of course software allows for ease of production.

@mrmeboxbuilder2710 I haven't looked much into gear since going into DAWs. But I used to work hardware gear at my buddy's studio MV-8800 with rack modules triton, fantom xr, motif stuff like that. Sometimes I miss the sound of the old gear but the price/setup kept me away from hardware for a while. But putting the hardware and digital together has been pretty fun. Best of both worlds I guess lol! The Kronos looks like a good piece of equipment.

@@GammaLensMedia Kronos is a banging bit of kit.. not quite sure why Korg scrapped it and replaced it with the Nautilus.. I mean that synth is good but no where near as good as the Kronos... I personally love the old analog gear but it comes with a headache... although you gotta love the warm sound from it =0)
@GammaLensMedia
@GammaLensMedia 8 месяцев назад
@@mrmeboxbuilder2710 it definitely is a pain to integrate it into the DAW but you're exactly right. There's something still good about the sound you get from it. I keep it simple because I'm studio based. I record one track at a time. I'm sure I could set it up more complex but that means more of a headache. I have a motif tone generator rack my buddy let me borrow. I'm gonna do a review on that one soon. Something about the old sound reminds me of when I was a kid jamming to these sounds lol!!!! Idk about korg they have good equipment but these companies abandon quite a bit of good lines out of no where. I personally always love the rack setups because you didn't have to worry about getting dead keys on them like the boards do.
