I played the Roland SH-2000 with reverb effects from a Lexicon MPX-500 and delay effects from a Roland DEP-5.
The Roland SH-2000 is a preset monophonic analog synth with aftertouch. You can tweak the presets a bit with LFO and filter controls.

Back in 1975 my 7 grade music teacher played a record album with experimental synth sounds and told all of us it is the music of the future. I think this is the exact same demo that she played on the vinyl!

I love how it gets ARP 2600 sounds without being modular (and just when you were looking for value it's got presets) like: BANJO

I think this synth must have been first choice of many composers for childrens/educational programs in the 70s!

I think all these old school Roland analog machines were created by some Aliens that visited the earth at that time and after that humans could never reverse engineered and make better fatter sounding instruments!!! Aliens please come back!!

There are plenty of new monosynths that hit the same quality. Anything Ken Macbeth makes, Vermona Mono Lancet, and a whole lot more.

Wow! I had this this synth about ten years ago SH 2OOO And I was doing the same things with it just as u do in the video! I was surprised finding that in fact it had aftertouch (years before midi and everything) (and despite the fact that it had no velocity...) As I remember the aftertouch was done by one simple mechanism under the keys and when u pressed a key it put down a long metal rod of some sort, attached to a potmeter (only one at the end or start of the keyboard)... so the way of building was amazingly simple but the concept and practicality is wonderful! :) Great to see somebody has one :) Thanks for the vid!

So nice to see my old kybd, I bought it new back in the day, I think I paid 379.00, and that was a lot. My Fender Rhodes was 579.00 I think. I tried the sh-1000 but took it back to Gilsonite Music for the new the sh-2000, wow how things have changed. And it's funny I just purchased a Behringer Model D, I say this because now analog synth is coming back!

Hey Analog Audio1, do you know how much the SH-1000 & 2000 cost, when they were initially released back in 1973-74? Also, do you know if they were intended to accompany home organs & sit on top of them? I know a few synths were designed with that on mind, and those switches on the bottom pf the 1000-2000 look a lot like the switches on home organs.
@AnalogAudio1
@AnalogAudio1 8 лет назад
+Gerry No , yes, these were indeed designed to be placed on top of organs! It's also the case with the Korg 700(S). The SH-1000 and SH-2000 did cost appr. half of the price of a Minimoog or ARP Odyssey. But I don't know exact numbers.

It didn't only come with aftertouch. @1:35, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CJO7LBYXVAg.html it seems to have come with pre-touch in this video, ie the Synth predicts what keys is gonna be played and plays a sound before the hand hits the keys.... :)

WIth all the buttons not engaged do you still get a sound - sounds like a square/sine - that triggers throughout the whole keyboard and can be edited like having a normal patch ? in mine i get this symptom and i dont know if its faulty or not, all other is fine. Think of a sub osc but a higher in pitch.

What is the main difference between early Roland synths and Korg synths? Anyone care to chime in? Roland sounds a lot warmer to my ears... very spacey......... classic sci-fi sounds!
@Jordansynth
@Jordansynth 7 лет назад
Old Roland's are usually more neutral in character, Korgs are usually bursting with character (for better or worse).

They also used the Moog-style ladder filters, which Moog sued them (and ARP) for.

i'm glad they don't, it would kill the thrill of the hunt for these dinosaurs. i think it's all about consumerism and the fact that these old synths were not made with the idea of "buy new model two years from now". but still, what makes me sad is the thing that the dinosaurs are sometimes so hard to repair :)
@fnersch
@fnersch 9 лет назад
Capatrat Eka Speaking of dinosaurs I just fixed a discarded Prophet 10. It was easy to troubleshoot but propietary parts (sound chips) are hard to get for these antiques. In doing this, I got a synthsizer for 100+ bucks!

@rogier5591
@rogier5591 3 года назад

The sh2000 is undervalued, they're the best "Musical instruments" by far. It takes time to learn and perform with it.
