Completely right! The 36mm with stick indices - plain bezel and silver dial is a perfect watch. On a brown leather strap even better, but Rolex forces you to buy the bracelet...😢 My alternative is the Sinn 556 - sadly no silver dial available...
I great Video. I am not a Rolex fan but I can appreciate the workmanship that does into them. This reminds me of the Seiko Sarb. Personally, as good as these watches are with the chronometer movements and excellent build quality, I still could never justify spending so much on one. I would rather spend 1/16 the price gain/lose 20 sec a day. Just my opinion.
You make some valid points about the proportions. I had an Explorer 214270 from 2109. I loved it but stupidly I was attracted by the new Tudor BB58 so I sold the Rolex and bought a couple of BB58s. Good though they are they didn't truly replace my Explorer which was then discontinued. I regretted selling it ever since and now find this Datejust 116300 is available at a reasonable price. I have 7 1/4 inch wrists and so it will sit a little smaller on me. I am very tempted. What do you think?
Nice review. I purchased the 41mm Datejust at the end of 2017 in white dial with smooth bezel and the hour markers aren't as fat looking. Although 39-40mm is perfect, I have gotten used to wearing the 41mm. and because of its thin case, does not feel so big. Build quality, fit and finish are excellent and the watch is comfortable to wear. I also own a Submariner from 2000 so I rotate back and forth with both. If it had been a year later, I might have actually seriously considered the Oyster Perpetual.
You got the updated version that has all the things I dislike about this one improved. I just got the 36mm OP in for a review and I have to admit I like it more than anything else I have handled. It's almost perfect 😊
@@WatchGeek Rolex did a nice job releasing the OP 39mm with the white and black dial versions from last 2018's Basel World. The dials on those are really nice. I also like how it comes standard with the stainless steel oyster bracelet vs the oyster bracelet with polished centre links because the brushed stainless steel shows less scratches and had i know this at the time, I would have requested to switch bracelets but still happy with the Datejust 41mm 2017 model.
Rolex usually nails their designs, but this looks really bad in my opinion. The Oyster Perpetual while having the same design style or language, somehow looks much better
AR is ok ok the underside but on top it makes no sense as it gets scratched up, making the use of sapphire useless. I guess Rolex doesn't want to risk getting scratches on the coating
The length is 51.6mm? That's a Sumo! I thought it's the same length as the Air-King, when i picked one up for my son. I chose the Air-king over the Datejust, as like most young people, he prefers sportier and rugged looking watches. The Dimension is 40X48X13mm. Would have been a better fit if the base has more curve like the GS, which has similar thickness between 12.5 to 13mm for their casual wears but with shorter length of between 45 to 46.8mm. When worn on a leather strap, they fit very well on smaller wrist, as recommended by Tim of Watchbox Reviews. The Air-king, and i supposed, the Datejust too, do get the lug width right, unlike the Submariner and Batman, which is made worst with the flat base. The trend now, with the young people, is on sportier and rugged casual wears. Even women are competing to wear bigger watches, i supposed, to look young, haha...Older people like me is about legibility, and, this is not a joke. Of course, as for Dress watches it's a different story. Bec they are thinner, I like them between 37 to 39mm. Perhaps, a little smaller for the women, but, i know my wife and daughter don't agree, haha.... The Japanese, being smaller people (they are bigger now compared to the past generations) are expert in making bigger watches to fit their smaller wrist. Just look at their classic vintage chronograph collections. The Bullhead is 19mm at the top, slopping down to 17mm. It fits perfectly, even on my 6.5" wrist, and, that's on its original bracelet. Anyway, if you have been playing with watches a long time, you know that talking about dimensions is deceiving and quite useless. KATZ!
The Japanese is also good in making small watches look big e.g. Seiko Crown Special, Gold feather, etc. These watches are 35mm, and it has a DOME DIAL with the hands bending downwards to curve with the dial. It somehow creates an illusion that it''s bigger, giving it more wrist presence. This is a vintage gem. They are now repeating this in the new GS SBGK series. I have decided to pre-order for one. The first batch pre-order already sold out! BTW, my wife says not to buy another Rolex bec some of her rich friends are actually wearing fake ones. They don't believe in waiting and since they wear just for the looks, why pay so much? They go to China and buy all the different models in abundance. Anyway, you can't faked a GS. Hand-made watches is. the way to go.
Taking a deep look into those Rolex with a loupe, and you will realise they are not worth the money. However if you want a durable watch, this might be the one
