These videos are so good!!! No one else is doing videos like this. He actually uses these watch as they are meant and designed for, out in the wilderness getting beat up. While keeping us update long term on the ability of each watch. These videos are perfect and a public service to all watch buyers. Cheers to you Sir!
I wore a Subby to Jamaica in 1990. Wore it SCUBA diving during the day...and under the sleeve of my tux when I got married that night. It is indeed an amazing watch. The "boooooring" crowd are just being contrarian. 😂
It is the most well known and ubiquitous watch design, without exception. And that is a compliment to Rolex. The 14060 was my wedding watch. It's Archie Luxury approved...
Yeah, I had to replace my G-shock (got the same one as a replacement) going to try and put a protect screen on the watch face this time, like they have with cell phone.
Great video as always! Excited to see your comparison between this and your two explorers. Love to see someone taking their sports watches on adventures rather than just doing a desktop review.
Interesting your movement is so consistent. I have a 2024 and it usually lives on my wrist day and night, even when I sleep. I lose about 2 seconds every 24 hours. I have noticed when I leave it face up in my watch box for 24 hours it gains around 1 second. So if I were to leave it off at night I'd probably be averaging around 1 second lost per day. It truly is a great watch overall, probably my favourite in the the Rolex line, the right blend of heritage, class and utility.
I agree, a great watch with perfect blend heritage, class and utility. Yeah that is interesting, it doesn't matter if I wear my Submariner all day, sleep with it on or put it away in my watch box over night, it's holds about 0.5 of a second to a second fast over 24 hours. Either way tho, I'm happy if it maintains the +2 -2 over 24 hours. Cheers
@@cheynewalls sounds like you got a great movement then, I would prefer that type of consistency the way I wear mine. I think you mentioned in another video that your explorer behaves more like my Sub. Maybe it's a 2024 thing or maybe just luck of the draw 🤷♂️
@@kyleh3207 Yeah, my Rolex Explorer II movement changes a little depending on how I offend I wear it. Either her way tho, great movements to be able to stay with-in +2 -2 over 24 hours. My other personal "high" horology watches (the ones I don't show on my channel) don't come close to that. Cheers
Oh brother, I’m so sorry your watch got chipped but that “there definitely was a (insert homer clip here) moment” had me belly laughing! So relatable. I’m really glad you’re using your watch as it was meant to be and not as a safe queen. Please keep up the great videos!
My exp 2 polar has made me a cyclops fan now! However, I’m waiting on a 124060 because I want the symmetrical perfection in that beautifully classic dial.
Afaik the cyclops is the same material but has double AR coating i.e. top and bottom to give it the black hole effect, whereas the main crystal just has AR coating on the underside. Those AR coatings are scratched up much more easily, so that`s probably where your scratch is, not in the saphire itself. Great video! Been watching since a while now!
Great to hear, appreciate that! Thanks for the info, I was hoping for that, but sadly it is a chip, when I rub my finger over it feels coarse and when I first hit it on a rock, whipping it off I felt a pieces of sapphire fall off. Thanks again, Cheers
@@cheynewalls Yeah, it's sapphire and the same as the rest of the crystal. One of the properties of sapphire crystal is that it is extremely hard and scratch resistant, but it will shatter at high impact. Based on your description, it seems like a little piece shattered off.
Interested to see if you run into accuracy issues that the 32xx movements are reportedly having after 1-2 years. Your Explorer II is around the 2 year mark I think.
I've heard rumors about the 32xx movements but I'm having no issues with my May 22' GMT after 2 full years. Accurate as ever and my Explorer II and Sub date are 23 and 24 year models and they have also been great. Time will tell I guess but I'm not concerned. Buy with confidence when you're ready. Cheers!
Ahh forget those people that say it shouldn’t have a date window. Both versions are classic. You get a diver style and capability PLUS a date wheel. Curious, what size are your wrists? I’m debating getting the Explorer 2 but I think it’s too big for me. Your wrists look like 7” or more
I agree, I like having a date on my tool watches. Yes I have just over a 7 inch wrist. My personal opinion, I can just pull off the Rolex Explorer II. What makes the 42mm a little more manageable is that it is such a thin watch. Cheers
The cyclops is really functional and that’s why I don’t mind having it on any of my Rolexes. It doesn’t what it’s supposed to do and it makes the watch easier to read. DJ from GBRS group put it well when speaking about his own watches: “wear them till you break them and then get them fixed”
Oh 100%, love my Rolex Explorer 40, it is extremely versatile, adventure and ready for cocktail time. I just put the Rolex Submariner a bit higher on the tool watch side of things, as it has a date function and a rotating bezel. Cheers
Both are great watches. It really depends on the situation, As an every day watch with some adventure thrown in I would wear my Rolex Explorer 40. If I'm going on a long trip where I'll be in and out of the water, with some scuba diving thrown in I would wear my Rolex Submariner Date. Cheers
@@JacobLawrenceCanning If I could only have one I would have to go with the Rolex Submariner Date, just because I go diving. Its not technical diving so I just use my Submariner to time my dives.
@@cheynewalls I assumed that you wouldn’t as you wear your watches like it was meant to be, a proper tool watch. It is crazy how much it cost to replace a cyclops.
@@johnt2694 The chipping is growing on me, makes it look "well used". Yeah, I guess because the watches face sapphire has to be changed out too along with the cyclops. Also this is just what I'm hearing in comments. I don't have an exact quote. Cheers
@@cheynewalls It is strange. I had an Explorer on order with my AD and they haven't said a word. I am going to switch to a Sub Date. My buy history is a Sub date in 2006.
@@achraftahir Thanks. I actually watched Christian's video this morning. Always a good show. He is likely right. With the huge number of subs on the gray market, I tend to agree with him in suggesting there are tons and tons of Subs in AD inventory.
@@georgetown8986 Man I think if you still have that pre ceramic sub you should keep it. It’s the best looking sub of all time including the modern ones. I’m hoping to get a birth year sub some day.
Re availability at AD's. I wish AD's would take a deposit from people when they are interested in purchasing. This would eliminate hundreds of thousands of people who are just on the wait list with no intention or ability to purchase a Sub. I am in the process of purchasing a new Toyota Landcruiser. They are tough to get right now. However, the dealers with incoming inventory require a deposit. Which I like and which I have done. And, surprise surprise, the list of actual buyers requiring a deposit is significantly lower than the list without deposits.
Interesting, now that I think about it, I don't know any company that makes watches excepting down payments. Keep me posted on the new Toyota Landcruiser, those look incredible!
@@cheynewalls It would slim down the pool of actual buyers. Will do. Will be a nice replacement for my '22 4Runner Limited. Looks like you are a Toyota Truck/SUV guy as well.
Interesting, even with the AR coding on the out side of the sapphire? I guess it didn't scratch the sapphire, I just hated when I would hit my SeaMaster it would take off a little of the AR coding.
@@achraftahir yes I agree! It’s annoying how much easier it scratches. I banged my Speedmaster against a metal garbage can and I didn’t even see a mark. I just look at my Rolex and a scratch forms lol
@@cheynewalls I hear ya! I’m talking just about the steel. I certainly appreciate Rolex not using AR coating on the outside (except on the cyclops of course)
I think the days of having to worry about a "base" Rolex Submariner being stolen off your wrist are in the past. There not selling for that crazy premium on the grey market anymore. I have worn my Submariner many times in the cities of LA, Portland, Seattle and San Francisco with no issues.
@@cheynewalls depends on where you are, here in Europe criminals still use them as a way of payment. It’s easy to steal and sell in a local pub for some quick cash (below msrp doesn’t matter to them). In my country there was a Rolex gang going around to steal watches. They were very violent and even tied you up in your own house and beat the shit out of people. Luckily they are now behind bars, but it’s still not safe to wear in the bigger cities here. Any other watch brand is no problem at all though.
@@cheynewalls i like the submariner. I'm considering the explorer 1 or datejust, omega seamaster railmaster, or the aqua terra. If i want my name on the papers I'll probably get an omega , otherwise gray market rolex. What do you think?
@@blueridgeocean I really like the Aqua Terra. I think it is so under rated and it is a very tough and accurate watch with the new Omega movement. I have my eye on the Aqua Terra with the orange seconds hand.
