This came out when I was 6 years old....my Dad and I would listen to it together and I'd giggle (as only a 6 year old boy can....lol) Such a *wonderful* memory 😎😎😎
My parents grew up on him with this and "Rolf on Saturday, OK?", and me and my twin sister on "Animal Hospital" and "Rolf on Art". 😥 He himself let such a career go to rack and ruin.
Congratulations. Feeling like that makes you a normal well adjusted human being. I have a similar dichotomy regarding Rock 'n Roll Part II by he whom shall not be named.
@@terryah2136 no but I do post condolences for people who were a great asset to the music industry at some point in there life which he was maybe he was a convicted criminal but that didn't change the effort he put into the entertainment and music industries
@@terryah2136 R Kelly is a braindead moron and no one had heard of Gary Glitter. Rolf was a disgusting excuse for a human being but he still nonetheless contributed much to the entertainment industry. It doesn't justify or excuse his actions in any way but people should still be allowed to enjoy his music if they so wish.
It still is is a fun song to sing. Don't stop singing it just because of politics. I'm going to keep covering Rolf Harris's songs and I would still sing this in a show today!
Just *a real shame* that such a talented entertainer/singer could let his personal demons destroy his lengthy and rich career. A *tragedy* for his victims also.
Today someone asked me to name a song that has sport in it, and in no time the title of this song came out of my mouth. I remember this as a kid in the early seventies
Jon Dunmore: what do you suppose the Abo's call US??? In the USA, blacks routinely call White people 'honkies', but no, no, that's not 'racist' at all. Hey, we're ALL 'racist'. That's essential Human nature.
Don't feel guilty about this it's was a huge hit back then. We're just live in a world where we're way too serious. We need the goofiness and silliness in our lives to keep us from being depressed.
@@briansivley2001 In today's world, *hell yes!* This was released a year before my parents were born, and my grandparents were only in their mid 20s. *How ahead of it's time this was!*
The ultimate multi-talented all round performer. Plays many instruments, singer, songwriter, conductor, painter, actor, comedian for both children and adults and an unofficial ambassador between Australia and Britain for decades. He did a great deal of good, using his many talents to strengthen the bonds between our two countries. I wish people would still see the good he did. Everyone is a balance of things, nobody is ever just good or just bad. I will always love the entertainer that he was when I was a kid. I still have the music albums that I listened to and sang along with for years. I'm surprised that they still have the songs in the groove instead of having been completely "worn out" from overuse back then. No matter what he has otherwise done, I'd never sell them, throw them away or destroy them because they, and he, brought a share of happiness into my childhood and hold treasured memories. (What a shame about the dark side of him though.)
> No matter what he has otherwise done, I'd never sell them, throw them away or destroy them because they, and he, brought a share of happiness into my childhood and hold treasured memories. Also the songs are just really neat.
I take some comfort that his best work, before he essentially became a cover artist, was mostly recorded prior to the earliest reported offences. It’s not a crime to own any of it or even to download or stream it (I have a Rolf playlist I like to put on from time to time) but the fact that it’s not played on public stations anymore helps victims get closure and that’s very important.
*The chorus and last verse were cut off from the end of this song:* All together now! Tie me kangaroo down, sport, Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down, sport, Tie me kangaroo down. *Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred,* *Tan me hide when I'm dead.* *So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde,* *And that's it hanging on the shed.* All together now! Tie me kangaroo down, sport, Tie me kangaroo down. Tie me kangaroo down, sport, Tie me kangaroo down.
Well I'm not jumping on the cancel culture let's hate Rolf Harris band wagon! I don't care what he did back in the day or weather or not the allegations against him are true this is still a great song and he was still a great entertainer and I prefer to remember him for that and not what he went through these last 10 years. We can't just pretend like his legacy never happened.
They missed the last line: "Tan me hide when I'm dead, Fred.Tan me hide when I'm dead". So they tanned his hide when he died, Clyde, and that's it hanging in the shed.
Long after his incarceration and then recently died just wait til his song will get his copyright revoked will result into public domain when anyone shall exploit his tunes for the rest of the eternity.
The way rolf Harris was going down in that film, when he was singing ,he acted very strange ,he felt very guilty for what he did ,I bet he's regretting what he did
I only like the original version taking out the verse and changing the lyrics ruined song. I mean his accusations of his person and the jail thing sort of ruined him for me as well. Clypso was popular when this song was written it was just edgy then. Im sure he didnt think of abos as slaves. He just meant how they were being treated wasnt right. Which back then had some truth to it. Im not sure if it is appropriate or not by todays standards but we cant censor stuff like that. It be different if a song said something like that today but changing older song seems stupid. They changed the song when made for the american market which tanked. Mainly because they released it years later in usa.
I have this on 45. Don't know where I found it, but I've had it for at least 50 years. Always one of my favorite songs. Definitely nothing like this kind of fun music, today. Where was this televised??
Same here actually. Which is kind of amazing because I'm in Canada and I'm not even 45 myself so there's no way I should even know about this song. Sad I didn't know about the problematic singer though. Still hearing it is nostalgic, and since I've been watching a ton of Bluey I can actually understand the song now.

Presumably the last verse about "me hide" was too strong for 1960! It is included in the 2008 version - Rolf and the Seekers! - at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VyTXM8mcTew.html
@Ben Pincus,I love how you “woke” idiots have nothing better to do than cry about and police songs, shows, etc from over half a century ago! The term “abo’s” isn’t “racist”. It’s short for aboriginals or aborigines. And yes,I’m aware Australians used them as slaves. This is 2022 now and that’s ancient history. Stop whining about the past and get a life and worry about the screwed up things going on now. Like teachers trying to pervert our children in grade school. This is still a good song and it’s not offensive, except to you, whom I suspect wasn’t even alive when it came out.
@@Somchai007 "they're of no further use" Was the justification for releasing them, not for the interest of their wellbeing. No way to justify it. Period.

@@bwsmyhero the 20th Century Fox 45rpm has this version, but that wasn't the one that was sold and was the hit in the U.S. the Epic Records version was.
@@goodiesguy I read that the "Let me abos go loose, Lou" version wasn't sold in America, but it was certainly HEARD on American radio, because that's the version I am familiar with, being an American. I was surprised to hear that a revised version had been released without that verse.
@@bwsmyhero The 1963 re-recording for Epic DOES contain the verse, but most CD's from the past 20 or so years that use it have it edited out at Rolf's request.
I’ve got an idea. How about you go back to your “safe space” to wet yourself because you can’t cope in the real world and let everyone else enjoy the video without your crying because the past doesn’t conform to your “woke” sensibility’s. Maybe you can find a drag Queen story time to attend.
1:19 - "Let me abos go loose, Lou." "Abos" is short for aborigines, the black indigenous people of Australia. He's telling "Lou" to release his slaves. Even in the '60s, that sh*t should've been banned.
Thanks for that mate. I feel much more informed about the topic of indigenous fellows of the great southern land known as Australia. We can only hope that all these bigots in the comments section will follow suit and become as woke as we are. “A.W.A.W.B.A.L!!!
