Jack o connell, Stephen grame..3am and just watched the first episode this song came on at the end wow...had to comes and search it up...im with ya caesar... well all roll the chariot behind....
I'm in the marine industry and part of my work is commercial fishing, and on days when im 100 miles offshore and it's grey and rough with the flying fish skipping out of the waves and the spotted dolphin pods dot our wake, David's music just fits. Ive got an entire playlist.
We'll roll the old chariot along... that is our human Civilization. Thank you for the Music, Great and Good Voices everywhere! And thank you, too, above all, David Coffin! Bravissimo!
Honestly man, it might. If you want to be self sufficient, look into Alaska. If you want the open seas, look into maritime. Currently, I’m looking into maritime in Alaska lol
Five years ago the world seemed to promise the fulfillment of hopes and dreams long sought after. New vistas and wondrous possibilities of great joy loomed over the horizon. A child on the way. No longer would hate and darkness poison the seas of change. Now it seems evil, fear, and regression have won out. This song invokes the memory of when anything in my life seemed possible, and brings into stark contrast the nightmarish days of now.
There it is again...I'll never stop hearing this song! It would be fun if there was a big crowd and everyone had a mug of cold beer. But..it's just me...rollllllllllllllll the old chariot along... : )
this brings back memories of when i was a sea scout - used to sing this all the time but sadly I'm no longer with the sea scouts as i got too old ( 10 yrs-18 yrs old ) but i do occasionally sing this from time to time . Thank you for uploading this classic
the north water is absolutely amazing. between tim heckers soundtrack, this powerful tune on the credits - its got to be one of my favorite tv shows of all time - and the beautiful david coffin version of this shanty will be forever imprinted on my brain. colin farrel will go down as one of the most troubled protagonists in cinema. When a powerful song is combined skillfully with powerful imagery and the like - the song hits home so much harder. a perfect marriage
This song and "Bluenose" fuel the creation of model sailing ship ship kits in my humble, frosty prairie home. I enjoy almost every song David Coffin has produced. "Drake's Hammock" is inspirational as well. I sail, so I get it. Nothing so grand as a schooner like Bluenose.
@@DaviSouza-ru3ui Me too, The North Water that is. The one he did at the Portsmouth Maritime folk festival was quite amazing too. It's on piscataquaproduction channel.
It's hard to put into words how amazing this truly is... it makes me want to be buried at sea, and I'm not even a mariner. Why is there not a whole CD of the concert with David and this chorus?
Former Merchant Mariner here: Indeed. Reminds me of when I was a short-timer on the haul from Bremerhaven to Baltimore. Longest 2 weeks of my life, lol.
No one is closer to God than the humble, hard working sailor. Always at the frontier, setting himself up naked in front of the elements. There is something here, that whispers to me, always. Come, it says, for this is the real life.
Took inspiration from your lead of this song and sang it with a tallship crew from the yards as we came up the Thames. We had fun making up our own verses and it sounded amazing
@@JasonX2 Jim Norton said he loves this song. He said he was listening to sea shanty (chanty) songs and found one he loves best and played it over and over: Mr Coffin’s Roll the Old Chariot. They played Mr Coffin’s song during their show and everyone loved it. I needed to find the song and listen to it dozens of times too, like Jim Norton.
I love this. My relatively brief naval career was spent 3 months underwater at a clip on a boomer. I had my passive sonar, waterfall display screen, endless sound frequencies, and cigarettes...lots of cigarettes. No shanties for me lol.
@@country_flyboy Oh wow, that's cool. LaFayette class was in the group of OG Ballistic boats. The old "41 for Freedom." I didn't realize we still had Lafayettes doing deterrent patrols in the early 90's. Your dad must have had her on some of her last patrols.
@@BULL.173 If I remember correctly, he served on her in 1989, then served on two more submarines (USS Pheonix and USS Oklahoma City) before being discharged.
the last episode of the show "The North Water" closes with David Coffin's version of this song. It's taken from this RU-vid recording ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-49FWp7WLYKw.html.
@@sumdumguy2648 have RU-vid playing while I play so I listen to Sea Shanties I remember one time I was in my ship and a Galleon appeared out of nowhere while I was singing which I forgot I had my mic on so they asked if I wanted to join them on a mission but have be other times as well where I been chased down while singing haha
@@DavidCoffinMusic this TV show is extrimely good, authentic, accurate and atmospheric, but dark and grim (probably as it should be), based on a best selling novel. highly recommend.
@@DavidCoffinMusic the acoustics of this version are haunting. I love it, but I cannot unhear a mix up in the "drop of Nelson's blood" verse. Even still, no one even comes close to how well you covered this song!
So you're saying you're all but ein rrrrrrr!, then? Sounds a little weak to me, considering where you should be... Letting that float from, no? @@DavidCoffinMusic Oh boss you started singing the lead line of the wrong verse during 'a drop of nelson's blood' verse then switched mid line back to the one you were supposed to sing..it's a real shame because I wanted to use this one. This is absolutely the best version out there absent that mistake..but as Shakespeare said 'The more clear and crystal is the sky the uglier the clouds that in it fly.' Still good though! Chapeau😁
