Ouf you already know me with the floral 🌸✨ aaaaaand actually! I did just finish recording a DIY toe guard video! However, I’ve been feeling a little iffy about posting it bc I wasn’t completely in love with the outcome. I think they turned out decent at the end, I made them work. But I don’t want to post a video where I wasn’t 100% proud of what I created, you know. But I’m still debating if I should post it or not lol
you should try to find a toe stop in yellow or blue to match if you want the skates are so cute!! I got some Moxi rainbow riders for my 2nd-ish pair (because the 1st ones that i had were not good fitting and stuff) and i wish i got a plain color so i could add like charms and stuff haha love your skates and i loved your reaction lol
You are so adorable. My generation caught the tail end of the skating Disco craze in the 80s. We were never this imaginative but I can tell you, my friends and I would have bought these skates in a second, had it been an option back then. I always laugh at people that give you youtubers a thumbs down! It takes effort and work to put one of these together (for free) not to mention your throwing yourself out there. Something my generation would have never done. I applaud you and all youtubers, for making this world a more colorful place. I love your skates they turned our beautiful. well done!
Thanks for sharing this video! I watched it over and over and used your ideas to restore my old skates. Now they are so super cuuuuute! Thanks for your ideas. Love your vid!
Holy crap, you did an amazing job. I never would have thought of using embroidery patches and it looks SO good!!! Can't wait to spruce up my impala skates. I did just change out the wheels and bearings and the difference is incredible!
The prettiest skates I've EVER seen. I, too, love flowers, and the combo of that light blue with yellow (and brown) is one of my favorite color palettes (I have a sunshine yellow car and a blue car, too)!!
AREN’T FLOWERS LITERALLY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING 😭🌸 What I envisioned for the new look of these skates, exceeded my expectations and looked even more beautiful after ✨💙 Never realized pastel blue and yellow combined so beautifully 🥺
I really needed to sand the toe part, where the material scraped off and smooth it all out 😬 I’m just gonna order a toe guard right now so I don’t scrape off the paint too 😂 and thank you love 💙💛 these new skates are giving me summer vibes ☀️
Still there ! 🙌🏼 only around the edges of the patch is it starting to lift, but my fault for not using the right glue. But they’re still holding up well !!
I haven’t tried adding a patch to a suede boot so I honestly have no idea if it will work. I believe it will. You may just need to buy a glue meant for suede.
Brenda, I’m new to skating and your videos have inspired me. Thank you so much for posting this video. I also bought this skates and painted them following your ideas and came out awesome. I can’t wait until the Moxies are available again so I can get me a pair. I went looking for your Instagram to follow you there and couldn’t find it. I would love to post a pic of my skates.
Oh my goodness, your comment really hit me 😭💖 I truly appreciate your kind words more than you can imagine. It means so much, thank you! Makes me so happy to hear you got inspired to also makeover your skates!! 🥰
I'm so sorry for not having my Instagram info updated on here! Decided to keep all my roller skating content within my personal Instagram instead of having a separate account for it. Finally updated my Insta link and info on my RU-vid banner that you can click if you're on a laptop or search me up manually on the app. Much love to you ❤ Thank you for your support!
What kind of acrylic paint did you use? They came out great! I have impalas and I really want to paint them black. I don’t know if I should use fabric paint or acrylic
Everything is still holding up very well and nicely 💙 Some corners on the patch are slightly lifting because the boot of the skate creases. But it’s easy to just spot glue those lifting parts into place! Also no chipping paint! The only thing is that the paint has some black scuff marks from sliding and falling onto the asphalt. But if you watch my DIY Toe Guards video, I showed a quick before and after when I repainted and hid the black spots!
hey i’m getting my first pair of skates and it’s the ones you have :D i can’t find the toe stop your using and im really worried cause i watched your first video when you reviewed them. And i want to switch out the toe stops but i’m not sure if there’s specific sizes of bold so i don’t know what toe stop to get. i’m looking at the Bionic super stoppers on amazon, do you think that it would fit the skates, or work well?
Yay, skate twins! ❤️ Thank you for watching the review video 🥰 I’m SOOOO happy you commented and didn’t go ahead and ordered the toe stops because, no, the Bionic super stoppers WILL NOT work for our skates. The Bionic toe stops are adjustable toe stops and are meant for specific plates that can screw in an adjustable toe stop
The plates on these skates are meant for BOLT ON TOE STOPS only. Yes, I strongly recommend buying a new kind of toe stops for these because these are crappy and will barely stop you. If you search up Bolt-On toe stops, you can find many! If you can’t find the Impala ones, I recommend the PowerDyne and Sure Grip bullseye bolt on toe stops!
I’m planning on doing almost exactly what you did here- with the exception of using a base coat to help the paint adhere better. Not sure if I’m gonna use an outdoor spray paint though, maybe would stay better? Not sure.
I would highly suggest to do research on the kind of paint to use on the material of your skate! Would definitely stay away from Rustoleum spray paint because they will never dry down 100% and leave the skates tacky.
From what I can gather, my skates are going to be vinyl (I bought them with the intention of customizing). From what I’ve seen, there’s either car interior prep and paint sprays for the vinyl. For artists, Angelus is a brand I see around. Not sure which I’m gonna go with. Either way, I’m really loving the idea of adding the embroidery patch!
I loved the video! I am currently DIY my skates and I found that the modge podge acrylic sealer left my skates feeling sticky. It was recommended to me but I don’t understand why it’s so sticky. Was it sticky for you between coats at all?
Thanks for commenting ❤️ I’m sorry that happened to you! For me, it did leave the skates a little bit sticky. But only on the toe part. I noticed that part of my skates was collecting a lot of dirt and I realized it was still a bit tacky. However, the rest of the boot was perfectly dry!
What paint are you using to paint your skates? Because that actually plays a major role on the outcome. I had to do SOOOO much research to see what kind of paint was going to fully dry down at the end.
I also left each layer of the acrylic sealer to dry for AT LEAST 30-40 minutes, just because I was scared to mess it up and wanted to make sure it would fully dry 😂 Please let me know any other concerns you have, I want to help you out as best as I can!!!
I used shoe paint, the kind for leather and vinyl etc. It’s a spray but was easy to get on and it came out great. For both the paint and the sealer I waited a day before doing another coat, just to be safe and not rush it.
Hey, thanks for your question ❤️ in my opinion, it all honestly depends on the brand of the bearings, how often you skate, and your skating environment. When bearings stop spinning as efficiently, it likely means they need to be cleaned out. In my opinion, I suggest cleaning your bearings every 2-3 months
However, if you don’t skate as often and the bearings are not really exposed to outdoor conditions (sand, water, etc), you can go for much longer without having to clean them. When you start feeling like you need to really push into your stride to decently roll, then it’s time to clean those bearings !!
It was called 3M Corner Bead Spray Adhesive. But honestly, I recommend that you use Gorilla Glue, or something similar, where the adhesive may last longer. The spray I used did work and it’s still holding up! But certain corners begin to lift from the skate slightly and continuously need patch gluing. Hope this helps!! ❤️✨
I did do another quick touch up recently to cover up all the black scratch mark from sliding on the asphalt 😂 and also spot glued some corners on the embroidery patch because it was starting to lift. Other than that, they are still beautiful ✨
Since I (stupidly) didn’t put toe guards on these, the toe part did get pretty scratched up. But other than that, the rest of the paint on the boot was fine! The paint didn’t scrape off at all. It only got some black scratches from the asphalt when I fell. But most of it came off with some dish soup & toothbrush, and using some elbow grease to clean it off 😂 whatever was left after cleaning, I covered it up with the leftover paint and honestly looked good as new !
Im my next video (DIY toe guards), Im gonna show the before and after! You’ll see in better detail how the skates looked after skating in them for a while and getting pretty messed up
Paint hasn’t scratched or cracked off ! ❤️ only obviously around the toe part because I never used a toe guard 🤦🏻♀️ but yeah, the only damage done to them is that and some black marking from falling on the asphalt.
but ACTUALLY ! Next video I’m putting out is some toe guards I FINALLY made for these 💛 I cleaned the skates and gave them another little makeover by covering up the imperfections with some leftover paint and worked perfectly , they look good as new👌🏼 you’ll see the before and after in that video ✨
Brenda Sanchez girl I’ve got my skates disassembled and paint in hand😂 when I ordered my skates I got them cus they were the only ones in my size but I really don’t like the color at all! I’ve been wanting to paint them but every video I’ve seen looks difficult to do but this beauty blender idea is something I can do! I recently got new toe stops and laces so I want to give them a makeover finally but have been worried about painting them and then the paint getting all ugly and peeling so you just gave me the green light to paint them with this feedback ! Lol thank you, can’t wait to see those toe guards!
ok so Brenda please reply, i ordered some skates ( they aren’t here yet) and I don’t like the design and I couldn’t find any others that were as high quality so I bought them but I’m thinking about painting cow print so any thoughts?
I know which ones exactly you’re talking about 😂 it’s like almost a plastic material, right? You can definitely try just ripping the glitter off. Or you can first try just painting over it. I suggest probably sanding down the boot to rough up the surface and use acrylic paint. Hopefully it should dry down completely and you can protect it with an acrylic seal spray
❤️ These are the Candi Girl Lucy Adjustable Roller Skates. I bought these on Amazon, but they’re currently out of stock until May 31st ☹️ They were originally a pineapple design but of course I changed it up to fit my style 😂💙
Can you really just use nailpolish to paint the heel? I didnt know how to change the color of it After i painted the boot, cause I was afraid the paint is not gonna stick to it..
Yes, it works! I got the idea from Karen the Karrot’s best friend, Scarlett. She has a RU-vid channel called Totally A Space Cat. She made a video where she also gave her Candi Girl skates a makeover and used pink nail polish to paint the heel! I recommend watching her video for more inspo and ideas ❤️
If you saw in my video, the paint peeled off because I didn’t seal it with a top coat 😅 So a couple tips so that doesn’t happen to you: Lightly sand down the heel of the boot to make it smooth and rough up the surface a bit so the paint better adheres to it. Use acetone to further dry up the heel and to also remove any pant that might have got on there
Then you can go in with the nail polish! Please buy a brand new bottle from the store , and I may even recommend buying 2, because you don’t want to run out in the middle of the process 😂😂 Paint it as many coats as you desire, making sure each layer in between in fully dry before going it with the other one. When you’re done painting it and it’s fully dry, protect it and seal with a nail polish top coat. For extra protection, you can also spray a couple layers of the acrylic sealer spray.
Fair warning: it is likely the nail polish may chip off whenever you fall. It’s to be expected. But it’s easy to go in and touch up the spots that got chipped. I’ve done it a couple times already but I ran out of nail polish already so gotta buy a new bottle 😂😂 Sorry for the long, annoying thread but I hope all of this helps!
Why would one use polish, it’s not really weatherproof! I guess for a cheap pair of skates it doesn’t matter if you ruin them! See nail polish came off and the application will come off later too! I don’t see that it will stay on for very long !
The nail polish has actually been holding up really well! The only imperfections are tiny little spots where the paint has chipped off but that’s because I’ve fallen pretty hard in those areas. But it’s really easy to just spot paint those areas. But other than that, the clear top coat has really helped protect them!
