Rolling Stone Magazine Distances Itself From Rock & Roll With It’s Top 200 Greatest Singers List!
Hey everyone!
With the release of Rolling Stone Magazine’s Top 200 Greatest Singers of all time list, many are commenting that they feel that Rolling Stone’s latest list is nothing more than a brush-off to Rock & Roll!
Is this list just another attempt to cancel Rock & Roll, the very music that the magazine built itself around? With so many on the list from every corner of the world, many feel the list is just another push by Jann Wenner’s crowd to edge Rock into further decline!
With The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame eschewing from actual Rock acts in favor of honoring Rap, Hip-Hop, and even country artists, are we seeing the very last days of Rock & Roll? Is this list even relative to the common reader of Rolling Stone Magazine? Or is this just Rolling Stone once again pushing their hidden agendas?
Of course these and many more questions are answered in tonight’s video!
And as usual if you enjoy tonight;s video, please consider giving it a Thumbs-Up as that helps the RU-vid algorithm better identify the channel to a larger audience!

Good job of this, Michael. Rolling Stone is as relevant as the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Paul had greater range and verstility than Lennon but John's still my guy. When Lennon hits boy does he hit! Dylan is nuanced with various sounds throughout his long career. I might just throw a response to this on my channel. Glen Kellaway is fab! 🥰

Paul could sing "a little higher" than Lennon, but Lennon could sing "A little lower". In addition, especially in the early Beatles career, Lennon had a better falsetto & he sang many of the shorter high parts on their records. Example: Lennon sings the high notes on the "Mieehs" during the bridge of "I Saw Her Standing There". Lennon sings the high note on the word "Hand" during the song "I Want To Hold Your Hand", Lennon sings the high part on the chorus of "Help" which are the words that goes "Won't You "Please Please Me Help me". Lennon sings the brief high part on "From Me To You" which are the words "I Can Do". Just a FEW examples. Conclusion: McCartney DID NOT have a greater "overall" range than Lennon.

@@yesterdayproductions1019Paul did have a greater range than John. Paul could sing higher and lower than John. Paul had a range of 4+ octaves to John’s 3 octaves
@yesterdayproductions1019
@yesterdayproductions1019 Год назад
@@ewest14 No he didn't. Paul could NOT sing lower than John. Paul did not have MORE than a 4 octave range. John's range was MORE than 3 Octaves. It was more like 3 1/2 Octaves which was very similar to Paul. In addition, Range isn't everything. You know, some people make comments about range & have no clue what they are talking about because they are not musicians or don't know anything about music. For example: 5 different D Notes (D2 to D6) Is 4 octaves, not 5. D2 to D3 Is ONE Octave. D3 to D4 is TWO Octaves D4 to D5 is THREE Octaves D5 to D6 is FOUR Octaves. I get TIRED of correcting uninformed people who just repeat exaggerated B.S. & don't know what they are talking bout. LOL

i remember watching her singing with the fabulous(but a little older) Ella Fitzgerald in one of her TV specials, and Ella was looking at Karen with this pained expression, like, "You expect me to follow THAT?" Ella is probably one of the greatest ever, in her prime - but Karen was gifted with an almost miraculous vocal mechanism(her alto was smooth and rich, almost like a woodwind instrument, like a bassoon), and she had paid attention to her talented brother Richard; they were both jazz fans and uber-talented. Karen was proud that she played the same drum set-up as Hal Blaine, the famous session ace(one of the Wrecking Crew) drummer; she was an excellent drummer as well as a great singer.

@@gavintuesday4959 typical Beatle fan comment who’s oblivious to reality. His Hawaii concert got more views than moon walk. His house outdraws most artists touring. He sold out the Detroit Lions stadium of 120,000. His record sales dwarf any other. He’s the only entertainer with no peers. You remind me of a personal experience I had in 1972. Growing up in Chicagos Liberal Hyde Park neighborhood, a bastion of Beatle fans . I was wearing an Elvis button on my shirt and a Beatle fan came up to me and said “ do you think he’ll ever be popular again “. On that same day Elvis was selling out the Chicago stadium for 3 shows ( I was at one of them ). And every major newspaper …the Sun times , The Tribune, the Daily News and the Chicago Today had Elvis on the front page declaring his conquering of Chicago and America on tour. But that clueless Beatle fan , like you, had the nerve to tell me that crap. The way I see Elvis and the Beatles can be described by a 1994 issue of people magazine. That issue named the 100 greatest stars of rock n roll. They rated the Beatles #1 but put Elvis picture on the cover of the issue. Cause in reality, the Beatles have the media but Elvis has the fans. And even they knew that the Beatles on the cover wouldn’t sell as well as Elvis on the cover. Even today July 11,2024 , Elvis worldwide popularity is astounding whereas the Beatles are dated crap kept alive by a biased media of liberal snobs that has little affect on worldwide popularity. In Asia, Iran, Europe, even England, South America , Australia, and the US , Elvis is the only entertainer with no peers. So keep talking your Drek and maybe eventually even you’ll believe it !

What? Elvis is absent from this list? And you think Roy Orbison is BETTER? You think Roy Orbison belongs on this list and not "The King Of Rock & Roll?" Dude, did you hit your head on something, while preparing for all of that water? Need I remind you Elvis started back in 1954, Orbison didn't come out until 1960. Elvis changed music, broke down barriers and opened the door for black artists to be seen & heard. You've obviously never heard Elvis sing "Surrender" or a lot of his 1960's music from some of his soundtracks? Absolutely EPIC! He's like no other singer or performer on this planet! The man's voice could stop a clock! Yes Roy Orbison is without a doubt a phenomenal singer that graced the world with his beautiful voice. BUT he in NO way holds a candle to Elvis Presley! Not having Elvis in the top 20, let alone at the top, invalidates any “greatest singers” list. It’s almost like he’s too obvious of a choice that people, in an attempt to sound edgy, just don’t include him. Elvis could have had hall of fame careers in half a dozen genres if he chose to concentrate on just one. His vocal power, range, grit and smoothness is unmatched. He blew Roy Orbison out of the water in vocal ability.

Michael, I have to disagree with your thoughts on Elvis Presley. Elvis had an impressive vocal range of two and a half octaves and something approaching perfect pitch … most people can only manage just over one octave. But the real difference between Elvis and other singers was that he could sing majestically in any style, be it rock, blues, country or gospel … because he had soul and sang from the heart. He deserves to be at the top of the list or at least the top five. Otherwise, I agree with most of your choices.

That is an absolute joke! I taught my 5 year old nephew to play White Stripes music in about 20 minutes. Their top lists are absolute BS!

@Alanb_69
@Alanb_69 Год назад
@micktschick2765 I realize a list like this is subjective. I do not hate the White Stripes and what Meg White does for that band, fits the music, but there has to be some technical ability to be considered 100 greatest rock drummer of all time. My favorites in the genre of rock would be: Bill Bruford, Carl Palmer, Alex Van Halen, Alan White, Jim Keltner, John Bonham, Jason Bonham, Jeff Porcaro, Simon Phillips, Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini, Ginger Baker, Charlie Watts, Ringo, Stewart Copeland, Phil Collins, Chester Thompson, Terry Bozzio, Nicko McBrain, Clive Burr, Danny Carey, Roger Taylor, Mitch Mitchell, Ian Paice, Cozy Powell, Gavin Harrison, Steve Gadd, Neal Peart, Tommy Aldridge, Bill Ward, Steve Smith, Barriemore Barlow, Clive Bunker, Phil Ehart. I'm leaving off many, I'm sure. It would be very difficult to make a top 100 list, but nowhere on that list should Meg White be there. Also, most jazz drummers are technically better than Rock drummers, but that's another list for another genre of music.
@Mick_Ts_Chick

I'd have to put Roger Daltrey in the top 5. He connects with every word in every song he sings. I'd compare his performance on Love Reign O'er Me to any rock vocal in history. He sings sadness, longing, lonliness, anger and catharsis in one song. As far as pushing his voice, Love Reign O'er Me is evidence of that as well. Also, his scream at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again is, in my opinion the greatest primal scream in rock music. My Generation, Tommy (multiple songs), Behind Blue Eyes, Who Are You, to name a few great performances. I'm figuring his absence on your list was an oversight. I'm figuring his absence on Rolling Stone's list was stupidity.

And Thank You for calling this audible (much nicer than I could have). My personal opinion for "Top 10 Greatest Singers List" : (Bottom 2 are phenoms that used an "alley-oop" duet) 10. Art Garfunkel (using Paul Simon) A.K.A. Simon and Garfunkel (Bridge Over...) 9. Bobby Hatfield (using Bill Medley) A.K.A. The Righteous Brothers (Unchained...) 8. Pat Benatar 7. Steve Perry (Journey) 6. Nancy Wilson (Heart) 5. Freddie Mercury (Queen) 4. Ronnie James Dio (For sheer power that surpassed recordability) Only people that ever heard him Live will understand 3. Janis Joplin (for the most refined "Raw" and Playful range) 2. Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) For unequalled Improvisation vocals with the most "Jam-able" rock band in History ! 1. Elvis Aaron Presley For Range, Genre-Crossing as well as Genre-Creating Vocals.... But truthfully, Elvis wins "Hands-Down" , the Highest Coveted " Most Wet Pairs of Panties of ANY Voice Ever Recorded"!
