Keith Richards wrote the riff while asleep. He kept a recorder next to his bed and one morning there was this riff on acoustic guitar (and a bunch of snoring). Mick wrote the words and one of the greatest rock songs ever written was born.

The opening guitar riff is known around the world. A simple riff to play, but, it impacted the pop/rock world

Just saw the Stones last night in Dallas. They closed with Satisfaction, and a massive fireworks display. Still got it.

For earlier stuff, I'd go for 19th Nervous Breakdown, Get Off My Cloud and I always loved the piano riff on We Love You. There was a time when I would never have believed anyone who said they'd never heard Satisfaction!

The '60s were a time of turmoil but they were also a hopeful time. With a lot of ups and downs it still felt like the country was moving in a better direction. I think the music reflected that sense of vitality. It's harder to feel that hope today.

This song was #1 on July 26, 1965. That's the day I was born. Incidentally, that's Jagger's birthday, too. I saw them in Dallas in 1988 on the Steel Wheels tour. We were calling it the Geriatric Tour way back then. Just look at them go.

When I think “Classic Rock” I think “Stones” and when I think Stones I think Satisfaction. A true, iconic rock classic for the ages…. and my personal Stones favorite. When those first guitar licks come on, man, it transports you immediately to a different world, pulling you in to forget everything else and to rock with Mick and the boys for the next couple minutes.

Early Rolling Stones hit that launched their career in the 60's... after recording cover songs. Charlie Watts (R.I.P.) had that great beat on the kit. Othe Stones classics- 'Ruby Tuesday' ... 'Start me up' ... "It's only rock n roll" ... 'Brown sugar' ... "You can't always get what you want" ...'Gimme shelter' ... 'Street fighting man' ...🔥⚡

This song was sent into space as an earth time capsule and was voted #1 song of all time on VH1 countdown

The song of a generation. When Satisfaction came out it described so many disaffected people. Some are still looking for Satisfaction.

The Stones came to the USA about the same time The Beatles did. Stones are like a hardcore R&R band, The Beatles tried to keep it more mellow. Guess who's still performing? Stones!

Ok so this has at various times been voted the best rock song of all time. It was really the Stones breakout hit, the one that defined their sound as a band as opposed to the other British invasion groups(Beatles, Who, Animals, Kinks). They used a new toy called a fuzz face which was supposed to make a guitar sound like a sax. It's what gives Keith's playing that tone. The other thing being Mick's ironic commentary and street wise delivery. Great reaction!

The Rolling Stones in the late sixties-early seventies were one huge 'rabbit hole' with one gold coin after the other lining the walls.

Love the Stones. I believe this song was really scandalous during the time it came out. I guess all rock and roll was of the devil then. Gimme Shelter is one of my favorite early songs of theirs. Start Me Up is one I listened to often back in the day. They've been kicking it a long time. RIP Carlie Watts (drummer) that just passed away this August. Love your reactions and channel.

A few songs you should listen to by the Stones are, Time Is On My Side, Heart Of Stone, As Tears Go By, Miss Amanda Jones, 19th Nervous Breakdown, The Last Time, Ruby Tuesday, Backstreet Girl, Lady Jane.

This to me is where the sound of “classic rock” was born.

If you watch “apocalypse now” , Francis Ford Coppola has one of the characters water skiing up the Mekong delta to this song in the midst of the Vietnam war. Surreal.

‘Satisfaction’ was the go-to song for garage bands of the 60s plus ‘Gloria’.

Competition is competition, (especially for the male of the species) in the arts, sports, workplace name it. Before this time there was a well known rivalry between Ray Charles and Jerry Lee Lewis with one always trying to 'cut' the other's performance. Ironic tidbit on this song is that Otis Redding covered it repaying The Stones and switching it up. Great stuff from you guys as always.

How a so simple song can transmit the feeling, the emotions, the spirit and the essence of a specific decade, generation, place and time? Well, I don't know the answer...they are the Stones basically, so don't think and feel'em deep inside your veins

I was a senior in high school - I think - when this came out. A friend of mine brought this album and played it for our English class as an example of contemporary poetry. Don’t think the teacher got “baby come back later next week cause you see I’m on a losing streak”. Lol

My sunt exposed me to this when I was very young. I remember thinking that this was going to be the kind of music I wanted to listen when I got old enough to control the dial on the radio.

Mick Jagger said he based his moves on what a smartaleck school boy. A lot of it looked a lot like James Brown, however.

Mick was not yet known for his moves in 1965. It was sometime later that Tina Turner told him, "You got to learn to dance". BTW, our parents hated it. It was THE song that made the Stones.

There’s something raw and exciting as well as edgy about this classic. Especially when you think of the context of the time it came out.

The alternative band Devo did a cover of this song which I like. I prefer the early Stones when Brian Jones was an influence on their sound. "Miss Amanda Jones", "Ruby Tuesday", "Paint it Black" etc.

“ Respectable” is a real up tempo rock song from the Stones. It has a nice guitar solo in it. I think T should check it out for sure

Jagger followed Brown at the T.A.M.I. concert (1964?). Nobody could top Brown, but Jagger was very good.

This song appears in a movie, Arnold Schwarzenegger's Raw Deal. He just sticks a cassette into the cassette deck in his car to listen to as he shoots around people.

I would go with " Angie " definitely a favorite but alot of their songs were classics. "Wild Horses" is another fav and "Slave"

SATISFACTION was in one movie "Apocalypse Now".

From an early Rolling Stones interview: "Are you more satisfied now?” - Mick Jagger: “Financially dissatisfied, sexually satisfied, philosophically trying.”

This was done at some MTV awards show by Brittany Spears.

This was the song that broke the Stones worldwide. It was a massive hit and really made the band's move away from blues and rhythm and blues covers to self penned rock 'n' roll. The early part of the Stones career is, if not their best era, is certainly their most interesting. To keep up your Stones journey going with their earlier material maybe try out one of their blues covers ("Little Red Rooster"), one of their first and best ballads ("Play With Fire") and one of their most interesting and best rock songs ("Paint It, Black"). Oh, and for full on swaggering 1960's Stones, try "Let's Spend The Night Together", "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Gimme Shelter".

The performance following James Brown was pivotal for the Stones. They were a totally different band after James Brown. And, very Stones-like, they gave credit where credit was due.

Brown Sugar has always been one of my favorites. And for something of theirs with a different sound, do Honky Tonk Woman.

Mick loves James Brown...in fact the Stones loved many african-american singers, and incidentially the Beatles did too...By the way both of these groups refused to play in the american south in the 1960's unless there was no segregation. And to think the rednecks of that time had the nerve to call out the Stones as devils of society... What a freakin world...I am just thankful for these Stones...This is just another lyric masterpiece...By the way Mick was asked about what satisfaction he does and not have..and he stated he was sexually satisfied but not philisophically...so they continued to write over 500 songs and said he would journey on...

I commented on your El Paso city video about the first lead guitar solo accidently having a distorted fuzzy sound and I see this video with Satisfaction using the guitar effects pedal to make the sound that accidentally appeared on Marty Robbins song,"Don't Worry 'bout Me".Would you have thought that Marty Robbins had something to do with the way this song sounded?

James Brown, the hardest working man in showbiz

Jagger modelled his moves on James Brown. When he copied Brown, it doesn't work. When did it in a knowing way to camera in a small venue, it was stunning. Drove the girls completely wild - they're over 70 now and still talk about it

the Stones performance on the T.A.M.I. Show was not "terrible" in any way... they got an incredible response from the audience, and their performance holds up well after all these years... the whole story about the trauma of following James Brown is overblown... James Brown was great, and so were the Stones... in fact, the whole T.A.M.I. Show in 1964 is amazing, with the Supremes, Smokey Robinson, the Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye... it was made to be shown in movie theatres, and the quality is exceptional.. I highly recommend it, and you will see that the Stones are excellent in it and the crowd goes wild for them even though it was filmed a year before their breakout hit, Satisfaction... PS... there was a second TAMI movie in 1965, and it's not as good

You could do a100 stones songs or more and they will all be amazing.You should start from the beginning do songs from every album and listen to the band grow as they go

The James Brown performance was before the Stones on the same bill but the Stones didnt follow immediately after . It was just edited that way. It was 1964 and the Stones had been performing live 18 months and James brown was established and had been performing 10 years. As Mick said I was just a kid and wanted to learn from him. The Stones went on to be much bigger than James Brown but its not fair to criticize them when they were very early in their career. James Brown certainly influenced them but the Stones have a unique sound and place in history and are great song writers. Not many do live concerts to 1.5million.

How old is Jagger now? 90? 100?? And is still singing this....🥺 Wether he lies to us or he has a real serious problem...😄😉
