Customer called us on Friday, 11/15/2019 to upright a tractor with a loaded container at the ports. I responded in the hulk (unit 44) and brought Joe with me in big flipper (unit 88). Once on scene, I saw what limited room we had to work with and requested Eddie to bring a tractor to transport the container after everything was upright.
On this call, dragging the unit forward or back was not an option. Just ahead of the tractor was the entrance to the freeway, which is a one lane street with concrete barriers on each side. To the rear of the container was very similar; my game plan was to upright it the entire thing in one shot with both rotators. If the room allowed it, we could have split it and upright them one by one, but if I did that then I would have to tow the tractor a mile to the nearest spot and it would have been unattended while I came back to upright the container.

Another mystery load. The shipping industry needs to make it easier for first responders and recovery teams to find out what's in the can or trailer and to get accurate weights. It's not like furniture is sensitive cargo, either. Anyway, another great job under challenging conditions.

My personal opinion: most of them do know, they just know they are overweight and want to act dumb.

I wouldn't recommend it unless you have no options and you are very familiar with the limits on your truck.

that looked like a new container and a new blue chassis too, and now they already got scratched up. Great job getting this set back on its wheels. But no drone footage on this one? (hehe)
@PepesTowingService
@PepesTowingService 4 года назад
Yup, I see it all the time. New equipment turned salvage real fast lol. Unfortunately I don't trust my drone skills under a bridge at night haha.

With the containers i load of skids there is less than 4 inch of space side to side so very low risk of movement and we maximize the product in container

Is the charge more because it’s under a bridge

Have you ever considered using wireless comms between operators or is that not feasible?
@PepesTowingService
@PepesTowingService 4 года назад
I have a set of Setcom wireless headsets in each rotator and love them. Used them on my mixer into a house video and use them when we tow massive cranes or do recoveries on mountains. In tight quarters like this where I'm within everyone's eyes and ears (only 65' or so between trucks) I don't usually use them.

complicated rescue, do you use those air balloons?

@joeacosta5011 4 года назад
We have air bags purchased from Air Cushions USA but containers have strong sides unlike dry vans or reefer trailers

Of course, but where would I put the tractor once upright? The 75ton was positioned at the entrance of a one lane on ramp, next exit was over a mile. I'd have to leave it there unattended which is not an option

@tiredoldmechanic1791
@tiredoldmechanic1791 4 года назад
@@georgetoma7139 As you could see when the container was opened, the load was tightly packed with no way to shift. A competent driver should know the limits and not turn while going too fast.

@@tiredoldmechanic1791 Brake too hard during a turn, jerk the steering wheel, speed, distracted driving.
@tiredoldmechanic1791
@tiredoldmechanic1791 4 года назад
@@PepesTowingService I suspect the main reason would be stupidity. At least it wasn't tipped onto somebody else.
