I use one of these almost every time I shave. Once sharpened and stropped properly they do fairly well. Like many things, prep work is everything. If you are used to wetting your face, smearing on shaving cream and zipping a razor across your face, you will suffer.....badly. Your whiskers must be well soaked, I shave out of the shower and use the stir-it-yourself shave soap, the foam isnt good enough, and you will want to shave more often. If you shave only when you wife is ready to leave you, this tool is not for you.
@@beenright5115 As the matter of fact it actually was available in every drug store back in 1985, but too many people were messing up spacetime continuum, so it was discontinued. 🤔
You don't know what your talking about. First off, your stone and strop are clearly dry or you've used something wrong on it. Also, people loved the Rolls. They still do. It giives a fantastic shave!
That whole mechanism is genius, regardless of its effectiveness. I wish there were more creative, unique products like this today. All we get now is cheap, boring, plasticy disposable trash manufactured with planned obsolescence in mind.
I agree wholeheartedly agree with you about the safety razors! My facial hair is fairly coarse and hated shaving until I picked up a safety razor and Astra blades. Now shaving can be enjoyable ritual.
I had one of those and sold it, since I didn't have the nerve to use it. I have owned probably every type of razor and IMO nothing beats a Gem. The G-bar, the Gem OC and the 1912 are just incredible . Also a DE open comb works great too. I prefer Astra SP's like you and Permasharp blades. Often it takes only one pass and your done. Less strokes and buffering =less irritation . Thank you for a great video.
Try shaving for the first pass in the direction your beard grows. Also this will become sharp if you put the time in to honing and stroping it correctly. If you prefer something that's not as much trouble go back to your 5 blade razor.
Pretty cool, even if it doesn't work that great! When I clicked on your video, seeing rolled Razor I thought you rolled your Razor ATV!! Kinda clicky lol!! Glad that you didn't roll your Razor and get hurt!! Pretty interesting piece of history you have there. I didn't know a person could even buy the old style razors anymore. Had one when I was younger, then disposables came out. But you are right, they give a good shave. Just need to be a bit more careful not to cut things like lips, nose, jugular vein,!!lol!!
I just bought oneat an auction, it has the number 95 engraved on the side of the box. I bought it because it was such an interesting piece of engineering
