Years ago, Nic and I used to do videos regularly where we would race our cars against each other through town to see who could get to the other side quicker. For the most part, these videos were done with the L322 Range Rover and the BMW 428i; however, the last time we did it, we were in the Range Rover and Infiniti G35x (Igor the Hooptie). Today, we’re in a Rolls-Royce Ghost and an Aston Martin Vantage. Needless to say, we couldn’t resist doing it one last time.

Truthfully, it felt surreal to be able to redo one of these races in the two cars we were driving. Sure, they’re both 2010-era used, British luxury cars and they’re not unobtainable for anyone with a bit of forethought. However, they have significant meaning to both of us. The Aston Martin V8 Vantage from 2011 is a car that Nic and I started dreaming about years ago. We always said it would be our entry into the exotic world, and it was by far one of the best choices. It aged better than the Audi R8, which became the “go-to” entry level super car. While a gated manual R8 V10 would be a better choice on paper, we always felt it was too similar to one of our dream cars - the LP 560-4. So we steered clear of the R8 and went for the Vantage V8.
The Rolls-Royce Ghost on the other hand was more of a practical purchase. Back in April, I (Patrick) had a child with my wife, so when we started looking for a second exotic, a first-gen Goodwood Ghost seemed to be a great option. It had the flare that we were looking for, and it was well within the price range. LP 560-4s have recently seen a massive surge in pricing for a good one, so we decided to wait on that until a later time. The Goodwood Rolls-Royce Ghost series 1 was a good choice as well because of the Provenance Warranty that covers literally everything except for the tire and gas.
It’s so nice to have the peace of mind on our 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost, knowing that if anything breaks, it’s covered no matter what. It’s a very reassuring feeling to know that no matter what, the Ghost will always be good - at least for the next two years. Our 2010 Rolls Royce Ghost has all of the driver assistance packages, which is another option we were looking for. Without it, I feel it just makes more sense to get a BMW 7 Series. For 2010, the driver assistance packages really make the Ghost stand out. Sure, they were available on other cars, but few still have the option for a warranty.
On the other hand, the 2010 Rolls-Royce Ghost warranty (Provenance program) was an additional $6,000 per year for two years - totaling $12,000 for two years of a warranty. That’s pretty hefty considering that can truly buy a used Range Rover; however, it covers everything from basic service to repairs. Literally the only cost of ownership we have with our Ghost is tires and fuel - that’s it.
Moving on, though, let’s talk a bit more about the race. Last time we did a race, we were in the Infiniti G35x and Range Rover L322. Both of these cars at the time felt like they were basically falling apart - especially the Infiniti. So having the opportunity to redo the race again in two cars that are well-sorted felt beyond fulfilling. Everything aside, Nic and I did this race for us and just decided to make a video of it. This was more similar to meeting an old friend and getting the chance to hang out for the day. It was reminiscent of the “good old days.”
As you find out in the video, though, the winner was all but gracious. ;)
