Never forget the origin of excellence, of the Rolls Royce V12 Merlin Engine which secured the skies over Europe in WW2; being fitted to Spitfires, Hurricanes ,Lancaster's, Mosquitos and Mustangs. At the risk of sounding like a total avgeek weirdo, the Trent XWB is a sexy engine! It's just so powerful yet refined, quiet, smooth, efficient, reliable, and beautiful. To me, it's both the physical embodiment and the definition of precision engineering and the proverbial "well-oiled machine".

Hi, there is two assembly lines working in parallel to ensure we can deliver one XWB engine each day to Airbus to cope with the high demand for the aircraft. For such an important programme it makes sense from risk mitigation perspective to have parallel production lines.With 10,000+ Rolls-Royce employees Germany today has the 2nd largest RR population.But to be honest, it's not about where the sites are - we are all one global team and working together, regardless of where every individual came from or where we are buildings those beauties.

Germany and UK battling America's best: General Electric. Good luck guys, you are going to need it! .
@beetee9402
@beetee9402 5 лет назад
It is not "made in England". RR is a global company. The parts for the engines are manufactured and supplied from suppliers all over the world, predominantly Europe (UK, Scandinavia, Continental Europe), Asia and USA. The XWB final assembly build is done on two separate lines in the UK and in Germany. RR Plc. (Aerospace) has big set ups in UK, USA, plus Canada, India, and Singapore that operate as local companies within the RR Aerospace group. The USA has maintenance in Dallas, and the previous Allison Engines (AE) which is now RR Corporation Indianapolis - they make large volumes of engines including for Hercules, & small Embraer civil, and other military applications. BMW owns rolls-roycemotorcars - although they are final assembled in a plant in UK. ... (As the Germans and the English are such similar people it is no surprise we always "get along so well" - germans are a mix of various including (anglo-saxon, alemmanic, prussian, viking nordic, teutonic, slavic, ... + ...), english are a mix of including (anglo-saxon, viking nordic, teutonic, celtic, norman french (franc)... + ...), and the more recent centuries' African and Asian english who enrich the UK society)) & ... norman = northman - were themselves a mix of viking & french.

True should he be using that adjustable spanner, very easy to slip it and round up bolt heads. ok for plumbers. Should be using aluminium spanners but what do I know?
@Liberty4Ever
@Liberty4Ever 5 лет назад
Shifting spanner? That's a precision Swedish Nutrounder. It's the left handed version, based on the fact that the jaws would splay open with the tightening force being applied, so, not only the wrong tool for the job, but it's also being used upside down.
@beetee9402
@beetee9402 5 лет назад
@@c1bav ...Certainly NOT aluminium spanners ! - Aluminium can contaminate the aerospace nickel alloys and cause them to become brittle and crack & fail over many thousands of loading cycles. Even small traces of aluminium can be a long term issue. Aluminium mallets (hammers) were also mostly replaced by certain plastics, certain woods, or sometimes brass for most uses on aero-engines due to this. Tools are (cadmium free), high grade steel or chrome steel in most cases, I believe.
@beetee9402
@beetee9402 5 лет назад
Looks staged / set up for the press shots to have two people in the video there (0:46 / 0:47)...maybe Normal would be an aerospace closed end ring spanner, if anything is needed on the top side nut for manual anti-rotation, I would have thought.

General Electric claims their new GE9X for the B777X will be more fuel efficient than the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB, will Rolls-Royce release a EP "Enhanced Performance" upgrade for the Trent XWB to beat the GE9X and reclaim the title of the world's most efficient turbofan? The Trent 700 and 900 have the EP and EP2 upgrades that reduced fuel consumption by 0.5% for EP and 1.5% for EP2 for a total of 2% lower fuel consumption than the original Trent 700 and 900
@beetee9402
@beetee9402 5 лет назад
The Trent XWB (on Airbus A350) is the most efficient in-production aero-engine in the world. For B787 aircraft, The two competing engines are GEnx and Trent 1000. . The GE-9X for B777X is not competing on same aircraft with the XWB (for Airbus A350). The GE-9X is the only engine in development for the bigger aircraft B777X. Aimed at production entry into service by end of 2020. (Bigger engines with bigger fans are simply by the function of bypass ratio and size more efficient - this is not related specifically to the maker). RR has the RR Ultrafan programme in work, early versions of which would be a more comparable thing to the GE-9X.

@@inglepropnoosegarm7801 lunacy Ingleprop imho - RR is a global company with biggest market for next 25 yrs in Asia - it cant hide in a damp rotting shoe box on an island - that's what sank a lot of British industry before. RR has big set ups in India, Singapore and USA & Germany for good reasons. & EU / Brexit - imho - your statement is just blind denial of blatant facts Pure numbers (if you choose to quite simply find them) will tell you that the UK island I have to live on will be affected much worse than continental europe by hard brexit. Half of Britain's export goes to EU. Germany's economy exports 3x of what the UK does & only max.10% is UK related trade... with a population 82 mil vs 66 mil people. It is blatant small minded denial of facts by public school bully idiot types that try to sell a positive out of the gigantic woolly mammoth elephant dung pat in your own garden that Brexit is for the UK. The PM has done what she can to attempt the impossible of bridging the worst gaping sores and gashes in her own party and with the EU, but cannot prevent the deliberate self destruction of it while being back stabbed by all sides at the same time. The UK is 5th, yes 5th - in EU economic exports list. Germany makes a large GDP surplus each year. France & Holland economies roughly equivalent to UK, and have some similarities eg. that belief that somehow "old ex colonies" will step up to support you financially ...think again bro (like asking an ex-partner that you treated real bad for hand-outs really). EU brought us affordable telephone calls, visa free travel to sunshiney and snowy places, work where u like in europe (that'll be gone), help & support of Ireland though financial crises - without which it may well have got very messy again there, & the whole Ireland border thing ... oh dear "didn't think of that when blindly voting..." EU meant that thousands of people got jobs with Nissan, Toyota, ... and Honda in UK plants that came here BECAUSE of free access to EU. Not to mention BMW's mini plant and rescue / modernising of RR Cars. ... free movement of mostly fantastic Polish and Czech / Slovak people, some good & some bad soccer players (if that matters to anyone) ... prevention of Greece collapsing into chaos and possibly civil war, ... avoidance of Italy breaking up againnnnn, ... pacification financial support of the hardest time in Spain since WWII from 2008 - 2014, ... help for more than a million dying and desperate genuine Syrians (no thanks to UK there of course), .... avoiding another war between internal EU countries potentially (just look what went on on the edges like the Baltics - that could easily have got more messy into Europe with Greece and Italy nearby)... even EU political pacification of the never finished Gibraltar / Spain dispute, and the Catalan / Castellian Spain thing. EU Help for Malta and Sicily and Crete with the ever increasing waves of boats from Africa. They are not rich enough nor big enough to just "sort themselves out" when faced with waves of boats etc.
@beetee9402
@beetee9402 5 лет назад
@EpiDemic117 Brexit: England was possibly ok before EU..., however Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and especially Ireland - have all had large support and investment from the EU. Even places I've been to in Cornwall, England have had big chunks of money from the EU for local facilities, that the UK government would not directly support/fund - crazy but true. Any set up of multiple nations / states is complex and difficult but is aimed at a common-good rather than "me not you" self-only thinking (call it a "mess" if you want). If anything is shambolic and a mess it is the internal UK government who can't even get one party to agree with themselves. - history is littered with examples where "going it alone" is not wise - break up of Egyptian, Ottaman, Persian, empires ... & Alexander the Great's empire (like a forerunner of the EU lol), Roman Empire, West Norse vs East Norse, King Cnut of Denmark's empire, pre-federal France, pre-federal Germany (separate states), old feudal Japan, old feudal China. ... & of course the USA carries a massive bureaucracy... but is surely better than if it was a bunch of separate nations. .. If everyone goes ultra-patriotic and insular it will lead to disasters and economic difficulties, civil unrest and possibly yet more wars. .. Imagine how many UK politicians and civil servants you'd need if dealing with all the EU states and all the US states separately on trade deals etc... would be chaos. .. .. You could take it to its ultimate conclusion and get the UK to a North Korea level of "independence"... then we'll be so busy just trying to survive you won't have time to worry about anything else. ... EU brought us affordable telephone calls, visa free travel to sunshiney and snowy places, work where u like in europe (that'll be gone), help & support of Ireland though financial crises - without which it may well have got very messy again there, & the whole Ireland border thing ... oh dear "didn't think of that when blindly voting with my blinkers on..." EU meant that thousands of people got jobs with Nissan, Toyota, ... and Honda in UK plants and the sub-suppliers - all came here BECAUSE of free access to EU. Not to mention BMW's Mini plant and rescue / modernising of RR Cars. ... free movement of mostly fantastic Polish and Czech / Slovak people, some good & some bad soccer players (if that matters to anyone) ... prevention of Greece collapsing into chaos and possibly civil war, ... avoidance of Italy breaking up againnnnn, ... pacification financial support of the hardest time in Spain since WWII from 2008 - 2014, ... help for more than a million dying and desperate genuine Syrians (no thanks to UK there of course), .... avoiding another war between internal EU countries potentially (just look what went on on the edges like the Balkans- that could easily have got more messy into Europe with Greece and Italy nearby)... even EU political pacification of the never finished Gibraltar / Spain dispute, and the Basque / Catalan / Castilian Spain thing.

0:50 that safety wire is so perfect 😍
@beetee9402
@beetee9402 5 лет назад
yep RR still using good-old physical safety wire - it's visible and it works, although a pain for fingers in maintenance / overhaul.... watch this space for trained robot hands to do it 100% correct repeatedly one day??? ...Some alternative self-locking nut solutions can end up being "not so self locking" after all, after hundreds or thousands of flights. .. A relative worked on maintenance of civil and including corporate business/private jets - some of those private planes only fly once per week or less meaning they can be 10, 15 or even 20 years before going to big overhaul - then its nice to see the physical lock visually in place at interim inspections for sure.

you mean lock wire for bolts?

@@beetee9402 Lockwire is still preferred in military applications. And they do more inspections than civil aviation. It really helps!

1:15 On a normal day building the engines, they don't actually line the screws up on the table that perfectly before using them, do they? That's just for the video, right?

Thank god, the 3d printer is enough to make this DIY possible. *haha even if there would be a metal 3d printer. It will take some money, time and life to make it.

This video's sound is incredible. Where has RU-vid been all our lives? This video is incredibly interesting, and educational and entertaining. In order to see this in day's past you would have had to go to the library, and you might find it on microfilm or film. Who knows? TV didn't have custom technology until the 1970's , and even then, it wasn't all that great.

As a former Engineer at RollsRoyce Plc, I have to admit that the technology used in manufacture is protected by the Official Secrets Act. The reason for this is that RollsRoyce is the only company in the world that assures the safety of passengers: Period. A fact that the British Company is proud of and, most other manufacturers will evade this guarantee or assurance. If so then why the Concord disaster?, that is a very good point ; The fault was not in the engines but debris on the runway. So if passengers wish to travel peacefully and enjoyment then only RollsRoyce Aircraft engines can provide and guarantee this. So happy flying!

This is the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engine that powered the El Al Israel Boeing 787 Dreamliner that took me non-stop from LAX to Israel and back in 2020. On the way back, through the long March night, forward wing, I had a clear view from my seat of the front of it. Not even a hick-up.
