Considering the country of residence, your fortunate to have such a broad date range. For example I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia where oneself would be considered lucky just to find a relic which dates from before the 1870s.

Being a tour guide up in Inverness it's really interesting hearing some history behind a few of the items 👍🏻 I've actually just bought myself a detector, my first one since I was a child when my grandad used to take us out, really looking forward to receiving it some time this week, I'm hoping to find some nice things that I can show my tourists on my vehicle when I do my tours. 👍🏻

I think it’s early. The archaeologists thought Iron Age or early Celtic

Standard gothic florins were slightly larger than normal florins. "Godless florins" are sliightly smaller than normal florins in diameter and have the "D.G" missing - hence godless. Also the godless florins have the date in standard numbers rather than roman numerals.

What machine did you go for? Consider going on a Rally with the likes of Lothian relics. They have a Facebook group and do a lot of day digs this time of year. You’ll get great knowledge and experience from them! And they provide the land

Everything over 300yrs old needs to be reported but most things are returned. They only tend to keep the very best of things

We’ve had quite a lot of fake coins from the 1700 and 1800’s off these fields… seems to have been a cottage industry in these parts!!

@@thescottishdetectorist I hope it turns out to be a real one and not an 18th century 'Perthshire cottage industry special' :). By the way, some Queen Anne Crowns were minted in Edinburgh and have an E below the bust! Keep up the searching, I'm sure the minus 8 winds wont put you off!
