I was 20 when this came out. It was background music when Kathleen Turner & Michael Douglas were at the hacienda in Mexico. I bought the cassette the next day -- the trac was so good I had to buy it. Drove around Huntington Bch. with Eddie blasting. Sounds silly but great times💓💓😁😁🎉
I wish Zemeckis had used this song more prominently in the movie. It's catchy, it was a hit, and I think the lyrics are clever: "Never leaving your poor heart alone," ie. El Corazon, the heart stone. It's a shame it wasn't featured in the film and is virtually forgotten today.
The test as to whether a SONG ROCKS OR NOT, is that if it STILL SOUNDS great years after it was popular. Eddy Grant and this song pass the test with flying colours..
I was 12 years old in the summer of 1984 when this song was popular I was going into 6th grade I love this song always did always will brings back memories I miss the 1980s
I love the film, and song, Romancing The Stone. I went to the theatre to watch it with my Grandma and brother, when I was a teenager. I had the best time seeing that movie and being with my Grandma.
Never understood why this wasn't more of a hit. You can briefly hear it being played in the movie when Jack and Joan are in the house of the "bell-maker."
@@fleece96 That’s a possibility but Eddy Grant said that was BS it was made in plenty of time, which there is always 3 sides to every story. There was some kind of ego clash or $$$$ conflict involved. Anyway it’s a great song.
Could it be that bad? I mean a song about a guy courting and actually falling in love with a boulder? A rock the size of Wyoming? You know the state of Wyoming doesn't really exist. Nobody's ever been there. Try to find it on a map. You can't. It's just closet space that never made it to New York. But I digress.....
I have a young friend who always reminds me of this song. He's a really great guy, but somewhere, someone has really hurt him badly. We have most of North America between us, but every time we talk all I can think of is "every night and every day, gonna love the hurting away". I wish I could get him to see himself for the awesome person he really is.
This song is such a classic! This takes me back to my middle school years in the ‘80s! Great song! Thank you so much for taking me back to the simple years of life!
So many years have gone by since I first heard this song. Yet, each time I hear it today it stills ROCKS as it did back then...I wonder how many of today's "hits" will sound as good as this one in a couple of years..
Yes, he really is making his guitar cry. On the album "Plaisance", there is a great song called, "Now We're All Together", where the guitar is just as good if not better.
+Thom Clark I'm guessing someone high up wasn't too fond of the song, so it just got a few seconds of play when Joan and Jack go into the bellmaker's house.
I saw the movie (a heck of a long time ago) in a movie theatre in Mexico City, this music was performed in the end titles and peoplw did not leave the theatre until it ended because they loved it! So did I, by the way.
I am 56, and I remember seeing those two movies in the theater in the 1980s. We thought for sure more great sequels were on the way, but it never happened.
I’m 50. According to Wikipedia there was in fact a eventual third film planned, which I had no idea about before. Mixed reaction to Jewel of The Nile seemed to nix it and it didn’t get past development. I can’t believe someone was even considering a remake/reboot (ugh shudder)
This is a classic song. Eddie Grant is one of my favorite song Artists. I have fond memories getting to go the show with my grandma Podle and sibling, brother, Donald, to see Romancing The Stone in the Theatre. It was one of the best movies I have seen to date, with much liveliness, excellent story, love, adventure, and, .... that gorgeous stone. Thank you.
I heard this song on the radio today, and though I remembered it. I knew I really liked it when the movie was released. It is so good to hear it again, and I enjoy the song even more today.
I was a teen when this movie came out. Was super excited to see it! Because tho I’d never heard of Kathleen turner I had a crush on Michael Douglas because of his role as Steve Keller on the Streets of San Francisco which my dad and I both watched. He took me see this movie and I loved it!! I just watched it again in 2020 for the first time in ages. This swashbuckling song should have been released to be a hit and feels me with all kinds of nostalgia. God I miss the 80s.
I wouldn't go around saying that Mr. Grant is rich. It's disrespectful. It is appropriate to say that Mr. Grant is a superb composer, arranger and, in case you weren't aware of it, he performs every instrument on his solo albums.
Heard this on First Wave the other day and can’t get enough. This is such a vibe the guitar and bass and beat and groove it’s so beautiful just bring tears to my eyes. Miss this time so much
