Price-wise, souvenirs and touristy shops are usually pretty affordable! However, there are a lot of high-end luxury stores in the center of Rome, and those are definitely just as expensive as anywhere else. I was able to buy a lot of presents for family and friends just exploring and looking for smaller, less crowded shops, which had way more affordable items. If you're going during the winter, dress warmly! It actually gets super cold. But if you're going in the summer, make sure to bring a fan with you (I'd recommend a regular wooden one AND an electric one because the heat is awful to walk around in). Bring comfortable shoes! You can definitely walk to get around pretty much any of the more popular sights, so you want good walking shoes. For the heat, I'd say tank tops and a light sweater you can tie around your chest to cover your arms and prevent the heat from hitting your skin too directly; also a hat and sunglasses. Also yes, unfortunately, women have to cover their shoulders and legs if they're wearing dresses, shorts, tank tops, or anything deemed "revealing" when trying to go into certain places, such as inside the Basilica at Vatican City and sometimes at the Pantheon...
