It's kinda like how after Marilyn Manson scored the first Resident Evil movie, he apparently loved doing it, and joked, "maybe I do this for a while, stop doing regular albums" and his band freaked out or the like.
@@dcmastermindfirst9418 what are you on about? I love ozzy but the man can barely speak let alone sing. His stuff post ~ 1990 has to be pitch shifted into oblivion lmao. We love him for it tho, hes still ozzy
He both had massive natural talent and looked after it: proper technique, proper life choices, adjusted with age etc. A great example of how to use talent well.
I remember the announcement of his passing. I was at a Kansas/Foreigner/Styx concert. Halfway of the Styx set, the singer came out to announce it. My friend who was a HUGE fan of RJD & Black Sabbath, was devastated.
imagine writing a silly song for your silly movie project and a metal God like Ronnie James Dio, who you worship, casually sings his whole heart out for it and turns it into an epic masterpiece
In reality, most Rock vocals are pretty silly, Tenacious D are just kinda "over the top" and they do the "this is very serious" thing in an ironic way. I think that's what make them a great rock band in a time when rock is pretty much dead when it comes to being mainstream music.
I’d like to think that Jack and his crew poured their hearts out into this project through melody but through a comedic filter. I think they spent hours on these songs to perfect them. It just comes off as super silly. I mean one album has Dio, meatloaf and Dave grohl in it. What a dream.
Apparently, Dio arrived at the studio with his own mic, but they decided to try it out with the mics they already had set up. On the first take, the power of Dio's voice destroyed the mic, to which Dio said "That's why I bring my own mic."
Jack Black is usually goofy and very extrovert. This version of him is so weird, he's quiet, speechless and just very very still. He's just memerized, not only by Dio's voice (holy shit what a voice), Jack is in awe with the man. So awesome
I wonder if what we are seeing here is the true guy other than the character that he plays as Jack Black. I mean, I'm sure he is that funny guy and all but maybe behind all that he is a normal person or even a little bit introvert
Better off don't watch it, is not cool at all, but yeahh, Jack is a normal guy, he just likes to make people have a good time all the time, seeing Dio singing in front of him must've felt unbelievable ya dig?
It’s actually an odd feeling when you meet your hero’s and they don’t disappoint. You always hear the “never meet your hero’s” line and it’s true a lot but he’s recording a song with one of the men that inspired him to live his life!!! And Dio is being awesome Jack probably is having trouble not being in awe to connect with him.
Yeah... I know. But honestly, DIO is somebody that is such a singer that it is hard not to be amazed by. He's literally the only singer I really look up to.
Keep in mind it was the Tenacious D enthusiasm that kinda halted Dio’s idea of retirement. Dio claimed to the end of his days that he was glad he didn’t slow down in the end.
Even though Jack's career has been a true Hollywood success story, he always seems very aware of how blessed he has been in life. Humble / "we're not worthy" moments like this show a very human side of him and explains why he's so likeable to many in the first place
Have you actually MET him? I have and he's a self-absorbed a$$hole. He doesn't deserve to even be in the same zip code as Dio, much less the same room.
It's worth mentioning some other amazing metal vocalists take hours. And there's doubtless plenty of pop "stars" who do one-take wonders. Jamie LaBrie does his takes line by line and multiple takes for each one. To think that talent only exists in one genre is fucking stupid, frankly.
@@DaveDexterMusic I don’t think he was comparing every metal vocalist to every pop “singer.” I think he was comparing Dio to generic pop stars like Katy Perry. Of course some pop “singers” are good, but pop music still sucks. You basically can’t tell anymore if what you’re listening to is a real person or computer effects. Auto tune is rampant in pop, and is nowhere in metal (that I know of). If you want to compare the genres, metal still wins.
I love how Jack Black is completely starstruck and having difficulty collecting his thoughts, meanwhile Ronnie's just being his humble self and complementing his and the crew's work on the movie. This clip really warms the heart.
Haha, the headphones are still on even though he has taken them off. I always push my long hair back with the headphones when i use them so my hair doesnt turn out that way.
@@ImMagnetz His hair has shaped itself around his ears after the shape of the headphone earcups, at least i see it very clearly, its looks almost like he still has the headphones on like i joked about in my earlier post.
Dio is underrated. Not because he doesn't get enough recognition, because he does, but because no ammount of praise would do justice to how great he could sing.
I couldn't agree more. His voice was way too impressive, recorded music never managed to do him justice. This short video is such a powerful example of what he did when recording his songs, I just fucking love it.
I think Jables was both a little star struck and also completely honed in on his craft. Witnessing one of the greats but ALSO one of your idols in person is one thing. Having to harness their creative power in a way you need is another. Them giving you perfection in 1 take because they are that good is something ethereal. That is the universe aligning in front of you. Rip dio. Thanks for the movie tenacious d. Loved you guys since I saw wonderboy at 3am on mtv
Wow I never realized how poetic this is, that's some Dante meeting Virgil type shit. Especially if Jack wrote the plot for the movie, Litterally working with one of his heros to tell a story of said hero inspiring him to rise to a point he could tell the tale.
Dio, a freaking legend, tells JB: "It's good, I'm glad you're happy with it", such a humbling comment, he was a freaking legend and was there, recording a silly song and feeling glad because JB liked it. Fucking epic, man.
kcikapoo is anything but silly; sure, the lyrics are ridiculous, but the theme it touches, the repression of youth, the longing for something greater, the encouragement from an idol, the warning about what it will actually take to reach the promised land; that's fucking metal, man.
I love when he hits ROOOOOOOOCK you just see Jack Black with his head down like “am I dead? Am I witnessing heaven rn? What the f*ck is going on!? I am in the presence of metal royalty.”
He was such a humble, down to earth guy. "I'm just gonna practice." NAILS it. "Sure you don't want to do another one?" I wonder if he was a little uncomfortable with everyone fangasming over him, but let's face it: the guy earned every bit of praise.
I met Ronnie James Dio in Copenhagen. While I shook his hand, I said, "It's great to finally meet you, Mr. Dio. I've been a fan for a long, long time. Thank you for all you've created." He waved me off and said, "Aw, John. Call me Ronnie. 'Mr. Dio' makes me feel old." He was a truly a very, very nice person.
The first concert i ever went to was Heaven & Hell when i was in middle school, i was maybe 12/13 years old. After the show, they did a meet and greet and me and my father waited in line for over an hour to meet the band. Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Apice really couldn't be bothered for more than a handshake (not that i blame them... they probably wanted to go home)... but when we got to Dio and my father told himcthat this was my very first show, his eyes lit up and he spoke to me & my fatherwith such excitement and genuine happiness for a good couple of minutes. I will never forget that. RIP Dio!
It was the movie director. He just collapsed for the emotion, JB was paralysed. In the movie this performance gives me chills, I really can’t imagine to watch it in the same room. Incredible!
There was an interview with Jack Black about his history with Dio. In one part he mentions that the most downloaded and pirated song of his is Kickapoo, specifically the Dio part, and that he's not even mad about it because he's too happy people loved it so much.
How nice he seems. "Really cool stuff you're working on". Not talking to him from above, just casually being a nice guy. Only musician I actually was very sad about, that he passed away at the age of 67. I was just about to buy cards to his announced tour before he passed away in 2010... never seen him live and i regret it so much...
I've seen him live but I didn't see the last tour with Sabbath. I do regret that. But when I did see him, I was too young to sort of analyze it like I do now but all I remember was that his voice seemed perfect without any flaws. I was amazed by his vocal delivery and how he could be that flawless on stage.
I always get emotional seeing this, Dio was so full of life, energy, sad he leave us shortly after. The man is a legend, Jack must be so proud he could work with him and also getting compliments from his hero
What a beautiful soul Dio was. Giving of his time,Wanted to do more if needed, asked if what he was doing was OK and even complimented the work being done. Such a legend. Sorely missed
My favourite Dio story about how lovely a man he is when he joined Sabbath for the second time Tommy Iommi was elected to take him aside and sit him down to say that the band have decided that any lyrics he wrote can't be about rainbows and he got quite upset.
I can only imagine what was going through JB's mind when he heard the might DIO sing his lyrics, putting all the epic Dio passion and power into it. I felt exactly the same about Dio when I was a kid and heard him for the first time and he inspired me to go and find myself. I became a music journalist among other things and had the honor of interviewing RJD two times, just couldn't believe it was him on the phone with me, he was so courteous and professional and real. One of my favorite parts of the movie.
When I first heard Kickapoo, I swear I played it at least a dozen times just to hear Ronnie's part. Rest in peace, Dio. And thank you to JB & KG for making Dio part of the D.
Got fucking chills man . Dio is just a legend . One of a kind voice . If this was one take into the movie then this is just insane lol. RIP Dio . One of the best vocalist on this planet
I love both but to me Sabbath is all Ozzy, while Dio I prefer in Rainbow and his solo work. Ozzy's solo stuff is good but no where near what he accomplished in Sabbath and he also didn't write his lyrics and battled substance abuse for decades. Dio was clean and sober so he had more control over what he was doing and obviously wrote his own lyrics. Both are Metal gods. Both were/are wonderful people who genuinely loved what they did/do and adored their fans. The contributions they made to music, society, and Metal culture is immeasurable.

@@xCreepyKidsx The first Sabbath I ever heard at age 11 was Heaven and Hell, so I love that album. Dio's best work ever.
@@patmctallica3522 Agreed. That album is one of Dio's best and a best for Sabbath as well. Mob Rules and Dehumanizer have their moments but Heaven and Hell was right off the heals of Ozzy getting kicked out and Dio leaving Rainbow, so they definitely put their all into that record.
When Dio said he wanted to do more made me smile and sad at the same time. I could feel how much joy he had singing and at the same time it's like he's wanting to leave as much of his singing behind (as a legacy). Sad that we won't see another one. :( Salute to a metal legend \m/
I absolutly love this video. In one second Dio sounds nice and normal. In another second he starts to sing and there is so much power and aggression in his voice. Always gives me goosebumps.
I had the pleasure of meeting and serving Jack Black 4 or 5 years ago. I can honestly say he is one of the most genuinely awesome people you could ever meet. 10/10 would meet again.
Think about it that was his voice natural without any filters or effects or autotunes or even doubling. And the funny thing is that it must have sounded even better there in the same room live. There have not been many singers that really could pull off anything even close to him.
