@@juap the critics were very harsh with the movie and also didn't made a lot of money. That's why we didn't get a sequel. In fact, the band itself referred to this in their song "Rize of the Phoenix" and if you watch the video you can see JB fighting movie critics with a sword.
Almost 11 years ago my ex fiancé cheated on me and left me and i was this close to ending it all one night. Instead i popped in this DVD. I credit this movie for saving my life.
These guys' energy is amazing. I've seen them live during their old school acoustic tour. Just two overweight guys and two acoustic guitars. Nothing else. And they blew the fucking roof off! Not many people could do that.
Absolutely. The D truly embodies the spirit of Rock. Don't need to have hundreds of amps blasting at 200 decibels, 2-3 electric guitars and bass, they just need the fucking thundeeeeeerrrr🤘🤘🤘
4:42 "For me, at least, the pick of destiny is really the pick that Kyle flicks at Jack which made them destined to meet and care about each other" DUUUUDE!!!!!
I saw this movie the day it came out! Other than my friends and I, there were two other people in the theater. However, time is the ultimate test, and this movie stands up.
I think the movie failed very hard financially. Imagine that the ticket sales brought 14m only at the end. Still 6 million till the budget of production. No marketing etz yet. Horrible. It was a really good movie. But I think the movie placed them onto the world, onto the common sight of the market. Which probably increased their sales and collected a lot of fans too. Think of later movies, that were watched just because he was in it. Like Rock School. Later they even released a game which EA published, and all of them did very well. They had very big concerts too. So overall I think it put them on the radar which is good.
Something happened with this movie at the release maybe internationally. Here in Spain I didn't know about it, and even after watching the opening of the movie (the song with Meat Loaf), I thought it was a normal video clip, not a movie. Fortunately the Internet brought all together and I could enjoy the movie and I think time will also give it the place it deserves
I don t know man... I think it s so bad and cringey. but does kinda like have the room effect. it s so bad that it s good. but the music is just so timeless and classic. you know when beelzeboss and kickapoo come on and people know it by heart and start screaming their hearts out. fcking amazing.
That's why they'll never remake step brothers also. And the office, they're just not things you can do now in society. They've destroyed comedy movies with wokeness
I fell apart in tears when RJ Dio appeared, it was so involuntary, I just cried. I can't believe he's gone, it's so hard to dig that, rest in peace in your throne Dio.
I love that Troy Gentile played little JB and then also played little Nacho in Nacho Libre. He's also the wheel chair kid in Bad News Bears. Now stars as Barry in the Goldbergs.
I first saw him, that I started to say, “oh it’s that kid from [that movie here]”, was in the movie, Drillbit Taylor with Owen Wilson back in 2008. He’s one of the 3 teen boys that get bullied by a bullies, one being played by Josh Peck. Great actor!
This movie is really something special. In a way I can't describe, it completely captures how I was as a young musician. The aspiration to create and perform, the adventure of it all... so weird but eerily satisfying to be able to look back to that time, in a way.
Preach! Couldn't put it better myself. My best friend in high school and I used to argue about who was jack. I was definitely kyle and now I'm so proud of that
I believe I was 6 when my dad and I watched POD on dvd, and ever since my dad kept saying that I was their #1 fan. I think I have watched the movie more than 100 times and I know almost every single line in the whole movie. My dad's dream was to meet JB and KG but unfortunately he has'nt even seen them live... My dad was aged 50 when he died, 3 years ago, he never had the chance to meet his idols or even see them live. I want to fulfill his dreams for him. 2 years ago when they were in Amsterdam I saw them live for the first time and I cried. I fucking cried. for three days straight. I loved to show, I loved everything about it. But I was also very very sad because my dad was'nt there..
I remember playing World of Warcraft for 15 days strait at 18 hrs a day and listening to all the albums of tenacious d at the same time, so stress free you have no idea...
This movie changed my fuckin' life! I was a pop-music guy and after watching this movie I became a rocker/metalhead (I was like, 10 years old at the time). Now the thing I most love to do is to play metal on the electric guitar, all because of the D. Hail D.
It was an awesome movie, I probably watched it at least 20 times.. But it breaks my heart to see Dio each and every time, it make me tear up literally.... He passed away too early.. Music industry needs more people like him and Lemmy...
Gamze Misirlioglu Sadly, it was time for him to pass the torch to these guys... Bu arada bizim ülkemizde pek bilen ve sevene rastlanmaz TD'yi , sevindim yorumunu görunce. :)
Watching this movie with my friend back when we were 10-11 years old was such n awesome funny experience. Back when silly movies like this were made with love. We’re 23 years old now and I sent him a clip of the final battle with the devil because I know he probably forgot about this masterpiece
This film is exactly what rock and metal is about! Feeling, emotion, struggling, dreaming and just telling a personal story through guitars, drums and a microphone🤘🤘 Fkn love JB🤘🖤
One of my favorite little scenes is when the Sasquatch trip bounces between the hallucinations and reality, and the Sass family are toobin' down the Strawberry River. Then it flips to reality and you see its actually dark, loud from the raging river, *and you can still hear Jables giggling while drifting down the rapids.*
I’ve always loved the D. Can’t say enough good things. They’ve always had me hanging on to every word, every scene, their music and comedy transcend time and space
I saw this movie opening night and then again the next night. Bought the soundtrack the week before so I could memorize the songs and sing along. One of my all time favorite movies.
When I was at High school, I have watched this movie at least 10 times. In first calss at high school my friend from class borrowed me first metal CD and from that time I am a metalhead :D We were two best friends at highschool, only two rockers in class and addicted to this movie...And we had the same dream as KG na JB. Well he is in a band now, I wasn't that lucky...but we are still good friends.
A few things about this movie: I was in 6th grade. Just got my footing in my musical tastes. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, etc. Found this movie and fell in love. I watched it so many times that I can close my eyes and watch it on the back of my eyelids. I blame it for my desire to seek out psychedelics, of which now I am an avid fan as well.
Oh god! How I miss Ronnie J. Dio! You can`t imagine! Just dropped a tear just saw he`s doing here! His voice is unbeaten and so unique! Pat, 50y Vienna Austria!
I became a fan of Tenacious D from the day I watched the amazing movie they made. From that day the D are the kings of my life. Tenacious D is the law!!
This movie forged my childhood, my big brother and I used to share a room as kids and we would jam and fall asleep to the Tenacious D album every night on our bunk bed, then in middle school i quoted the movie at least 2x a day
I saw Tenacious D in concert last weekend and it was a spectacle. Jack and KG are so good. Jack has the energy and stage presence of 10 people. The dude gives it 100% effort 100% of the time. Some of the little comedy skits they did between songs were a little weak and forced, but that's the only knock I had. Jacks vocals are very good. He can hit all the notes
I worked at carmike cinemas in Tyler TX when this and grandmas boy came out.. we still used film but we’re making the transition to digital so when we got films in we’d run them after hrs b4 their release date.. I lived rite behind the cinema and at closing time I slipped a quarter in the emergency exit door and went in with a good friend of mine and smoked doobie after doobie for both movies.. BEST movie experiences ever..
I've bought this movie 4 times on DVD and 3 on CD because when i've lent it out .. it never gets returned.. My fav movie & soundtrack of all time... RIP Ronnie James Dio..
I loved this film and think it is so underestimated as a great musical. As much as the critics panned it during its release I think a new generation had discovered it and appreciates it more as a whole. When I saw it in the theatre it didn't fair well but to the fans of the band. I think the tide is turning and it will be remembered fondly. POD and The Blues Brothers are classic musical comedies that both stand the test of time.
Man this movie is my childhood i saw it very young and it makes me so mad when people say they haven’t seen it like this movie is so good and underrated 😩💕
A nice trip down memory lane. I used to like this movie and the D a whole lot, and still do to an extent. It came out right before my 14th birthday so me, my twin brother, and a bunch of friends went to the theater to see it. Good times.
I LOVE this film. I'm a 51 year old school teacher and I adored it when it first came out and still do today. It feels like a love letter to the fans, all of the references, innuendos, nods, and attention to detail. Long Live the D! Trying to tickets to their show in Paris in May 2024.
I started playing music and guitar myself because of THIS MOVIE and it took my a few years to realize that the D’s compositions are actually preeetty high level. When I watched the movie without any musical education I really thought if these guys can play those songs I can too! haha
I shoot and move on to the next project. I'm not involved in the edit. Back in the day, if you didn't buy the DVD, you never saw the bonus features. Now we have RU-vid to thank
queefreak Well you got a point. By the way Im also a collector of D merch and props.I have to ask , Did you ever keep anything from the movie set? Like 16mm movie reels or something like that... Anything actually :)
