I get what he's trying to say - He's saying people like Gilbert, Bingham are actually top 16 players but have had bad seasons and dropped out and now classed as qualifiers, and similarly there's newer players that have got into the top 16 as a subsequense to that who wouldn't have.

That is exactly what he was trying to say.

Basically a lot of the top 16 in the tournament are players that are quite new to snooker (knocking about for 10 years in smaller tournaments) and have only just started playing at the crucible so don't have that experience that some of the top players have, but conversely a lot of the decent players, like him and Trump, also haven't been playing as good as they have in the past so it's a mixture of those 2 things. It sounds to me like the ratio of lower ranked players to higher ranked players was such that there were more lower ranked players, so probability states that the remaining 4-8 players with be lower ranked players. Hope that makes sense?

@@tankgod888 meh, just the natural evolution of sport. Snooker is an incredibly cognitive sport which requires a huge amount of concentration and mental endurance (pre-frontal cortex and frontal lobe specifically) which most people don't really appreciate. To have players into their 30s and 40s playing at such a high level, especially when a total of 15-20 frames is played over 3 hours, its pretty incredible when you think about it, and it's to be expected that the younger players are going to start taking over the quarters, semis and finals. Based on Ronnies interview I think he is well aware of that fact and is taking it very well.

I struggle to work him out, whether it's arrogance with ppl, or lack of caring, quite ambivilent in his mood and attitude sometimes. Quite strange really, but he can play some blinding snooker sometimes, but his scrips keeps chenging from year to year.

The Crucible is a shit-hole. Only picked by Hearn back in the day because it was cheap and low-rent which meant more profits for the Matchroom company. Who picks Sheffield for anything? It's not central to UK, it's a small 900-seater venue, awkward to get into for the players without being accosted by window-licking autograph-hunting eBay merchants. The fiasco with the doors opening last night when O'Sullivan was taking a shot, the 2-table set-up with one partitioning screen is just so outdated, the backstage facilities are dreadful. The only thing it's famous for is the snooker, but the rest of the year it's utterly anonymous. As for 'after all the game has done for him'? What has it done for him? I think you'll find it's the other way round. If there was no Ronnie, there would be no snooker any more. Who else in the last 20 years has been box-office? O'Sullivan has single-handedly kept the game alive by his pure talent and character. Hearn knows it, Ronnie knows it, and China and Saudi know it. He was turning down 147's for the cheap prize money probably before you were born. Do your research before posting drivel.
