Having framed houses for 35 yrs. I've done more roofing than I care to admit and it's much harder than it looks. To wake up knowing your gonna be roofing for 10 hrs. would be enough for me to go back to bed. That's how hard it really is !
I couldn't have explained this better myself, roofing is extremely hard work and when people watch someone do it they think it's not as hard until they're up there actually physically doing it.
The top of the shingles barely reached past the middle of your valley. Not the cut off side, but the side that counts. We also cut our valleys about 2 inches out of the middle. Water can grab the shingle and flow sideways to a leak if the shingles aren't cut back out of the flow of water. Especially when you're barely putting enough shingle over through the valley

If not, then you need to start an IRA with your bank right now that your young, so when you get to be an old woman like me, you will have a nest egg! Social security was not meant to support you, it is meant to supplement your income when you retire! I am a retired roofer of 25 years and discovered your videos today. I loved the one where you prepped the surface with underlayment. It was very smooth and you were very efficient. I enjoyed. your talk about how you became a roofer but this video, "Roof with me" is too bouncy for me to watch.
All we do here in Vancouver is metal valleys, alot easier, but id rather be doing closed valleys. I've ran into alot of shinglers who dont even know how to do a closed valley 😅
Is the nail sticking under the ceiling, I am trying to do this on my patio roof and I don’t what to do to avoid the nail being shown under the ceiling? Any suggestion?
Kinda sad if those are best what you can buy. We have shingles that self adhesive tar is spread whole back side and they will stick to each other so well that wind can't ever lift them up unlike those that has maybe half inch wide tar to stick with. Also we never use that felt paper underlayment instead whole roof is covered with similar that you use ice and water shield. So it's not rare at all that our shingle roofing last 40 - 50 year before they need to replace and we also have really cold winter.
