I actually think Scotland might cause an upset! I think Germany will not have a good tournament ! I’d prefer it if both teams could lose tbh Haa 🏴
I am scottish and i think the Germans will be too strong for us. our only hope is being one of the best 3rd place teams. we are missing a clinical striker to put the chances away. have been since the 80s.
I was almost developing a soft spot for England and was hoping they'd do well in the tournament, but that intro has pulled the rug right out from under my feet! Come on Serbia!!!
Rooney is absolutely class, really uncensored and candid for somebody still in management, he could still just give bland responses to cover his own arse managerially but instead he gives proper opinion and insight and speaks his mind unedited
I love how after everything Rooney has done, he still just comes across as a completely normal guy. Doesn't care about being charismatic, slightly socially-awkward body language, but just speaks from experience and says it how he sees it.
It's a shame he doesn't seem to be able to quite articulate what he's thinking, or maybe just not confidently cause he's clearly a super intelligent footballer. Hope he sticks with the punditry and develops his presentation over time cause he could be a good pundit among a very bad bunch
I'd rather listening to rooneys experiences and intellectual football knowledge even tho he is a little nervous alot better than Micha Richards that knows fk all but loud n confident
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402trent can't defend... also trent is top 5 players in prem for tackles and interceptions. Whilst playing higher up than most rb's. I hate this myth trent can't defend cos he's good going forward.
He used to get (wrongly) slagged for being thick but the longer he's in front of a camera the more you see he's a good head on him, can be the exact opposite with other pundits
Wazza the Gaffa, he’s doing well in the media but he wants management again. It sounds like he knows his stuff and I think at the right club he will get it right.
He knows football well enough but he's nowhere near as entertaining a presenter as Carragher, Wright or Keane. He told way too many personal stories here - it wasn't a wazza interview. But maybe he'll get better.
@@kd5973 I don't even mind that too much, I think Toney and Watkins are very different options and I'm not mad about it. I just can't wrap my head around taking Dunk or Konsa over Branthwaite
@@Efcdan1878 My brother in law is a Toffee so I pay much more attention to you guys than I used to. Branthwaite and Tarkowski have been immense this season, and how more people aren't arguing Pickford having a shout for keeper of the season is mental
Love the Wazza PR train that's been full steam ahead the last few months. Undoubtedly one of England's greatest ever players and brings such a genuine perspective to these kind of forums. What a bloke.
But we do have one of the best squads in the tournament, does it mean we will win? No, only one can win it and every team that has made it can do well.
@@jackgreenway4646 There's probably 5 teams with better squads. We have maybe3 or 4 world class players, a few decent ones, and tons of dross. Very little late-champions league experience in the squad either. To many English fans drinking the kool-aid and thinking they're going to win based on Kane, Foden and Bellingham. It isn't enough.
Southgate wouldn’t be playing Trent there if it wasn’t for klopp doing it and everyone saying Southgate should play him there so Southgate only plays him there because he come under pressure to play him there
@@russty2996 he's played a total of 3 games in midfield for Liverpool. 2 of which were in the League Cup. I think Klopp is a better judge than Southgate. People think he can't influence the game from right back, but of course he can, he does for Liverpool. The same people bemoan his defensive ability and positioning, but playing in midfield leaves you a lot more vulnerable to those frailties. There's a lot more to playing centre mid than pinging 40 yarders!
@@ushmush4074if Trent gets skinned persistently at RB then it is a clear weakness that the opponents will target. At least in midfield Declan and Jude can come back and cover him
Foeden is older than Saka by two years so has had more experienece. Foden is in a squad where you get so many chances it's insane. It's mad how people think Foden is better when he isn't when Saka is so much younger and nowhere near his prime and Foden will very soon be in his prime. Really unprofessional press as normal. Saka is kicked EVERY game.
Rooney looks like a dad of 5, who's just sat down, after completing his weekly Iceland shopping trip 😁 bye the way, what a player he was, world class ⚽
@PenGuCounterStrikeHD A win percentage of 28.2% is abysmal, even under difficult circumstances. Sadly, people like Rooney think they can live off their reputations as a player. But they soon get found out.
@@userJ1J123 look at the clubs he was managing, every single one of them in dire straits, financially and the squad. Unable to make any of his own signings and not given any time at the blues. His time at Derby I think is very underrated what he managed to do there. He may well be a bad manager, however i'd like to see him be given 2 full seasons with a transfer budget before he is judged like Lampard and Gerrard.
Remember how Rooney was framed by the media? When he was younger, they would always talk about his perceived lack of Intelligence, how he speaks, his looks etc etc… look at him now.. he’s so good in his media roles, he brings so much to every convo and has a great insight and knowledge. Proves the point the guys made about media assassins and how they used to target certain players from the previous gen.
That guy is always a mug on every Overlap show that he’s shown up on. Not only what he says, the way he says it and his expressions. Bloke can’t read the room
This video just strengthens the reasoning behind Saka’s media witch-hunt. “Drop him for Foden” “play Saka at left back” he’s done better than most for England and yet he’s always the player that the people are ready to compromise/sacrifice
For real... see all the word salad they used to dodge to obvious... saka England's top goal scorer other than kane and he should be dropped or put in defend. Straight racial bias. Nothing else can be argued.
Why would anyone laugh? Saka started at left back, it's actually a massive compliment, he's saying Sakas better than Shaw and trippier at left back, and it's way we can get cole Palmer in the team.
I don’t see why it’s such a bad idea for the group matches. Don’t get me wrong I wouldn’t want to risk it against better sides but versus Serbia surely we could.
49:55 Harry Maguire hasn't been battered by the fans?? The whole of Wembley booed him during an international break in the season and he was constantly ridiculed online up until the last couple of months of the season when he turned it around. Don't change the narrative now and act like everyone has backed him the whole time
I'm really glad that Rooney finally feels comfortable enough to be himself in front of a crowd/ camera. He always seemed quite funny/ likeable when he opened up but was almost always unwilling to leave the safety of media training/ refusing to talk openly.
@@kidkieran77Yeah, and Quansah called to LCB, bring back Jordan Henderson and Curtis Jones into midfield. Also why can't we just work out a way of naturalizing Salah, to play him of the right🙄
And i bet you think curtis jones should be in the midfield next to jude and rice Btw trippier is 10x the player gomez is and can play left back as well as anyone with a right foot
What type of season would Cole palmer have needed to have to be considered a starter for England? Like how could he have performed any better? Yet it’s still not enough. For me he has to play!
What I can't understand is Jarod Bowen has got 20 plus goals this season (none are penalties unlike Cole Palmer) and 12 assists and he's either disregarded or no one mentions him. Strange one for me.
The Bellingham/Foden thing really isn't that complicated. Bellingham is only playing no. 10 because of Real Madrid's system. His best position is centre mid. You just play Bellingham next to Rice, and Foden in the 10 and it's not a problem at all. I really don't know why people in the media are overcomplicating it.
@@zerionis It's not no, if you've watched him at Dortmund. Next season Madrid will play him deeper in his main position, with Mbappe arriving. He's done an unbelievable job adapting this season, but in the 2nd half of the season he's actually not been all that good.
@@dylanblue2271 that's not true he played amazing up until his injury in March and then was out for a month you guys say BS he's much better in the 10 than foden
Trust a Scotsman to spot the problem. You're playing the wrong formation lol 5 - 4 - 1 GK - Pickford WBL - Luke Shaw DC - Guehi DC - Stones DC - Kyle Walker WBR - Alexander-Arnold DMC - Declan Rice MC - Bellingham MC - Mainoo AMC - Foden SC - Kane You're welcome.

Walker was abysmal against Iceland and yet those type of games never seem to affect people's opinions of him, whereas Trent plays football under a media microscope. Until England change this narrative of him being a 'liability' in tournaments, they won't achieve anything. He's the difference maker.
People forget we started Trips and Mings against Croatia because of similar issues and we beat them opening game of Euros. Maguire didn't come until the third game. It's a concern but not uncharted terrority.
He admitted himself that he only played well in one tournament in 04. So WTF are you on about? When the man himself is telling you he wasn't great for England.
I like Trippier, I think he's been good for England and superb signing for Newcastle but seen him get absolutely butchered by Dwight McNeil this season and has struggled at times so putting him at LB seems a risk.
Irishman, Arsenal since birth, wishing England alll the best in the Euros. English football has provided me with more joy than anything else in my life. 🇮🇪Old Enemies/New Friends🏴 Hate is dated .... we're all neighbours when ya zoom out. Football is the international language of peace⚽️☮
That is true but Kane dropping in works when we have pace out wide. If you have Gordon and Bowen out there then Kane can assist them. Son had his best season coming in from the wing and Kane was setting them up. Foden and Saka come inside and so Kane needs to hold the 9 position.
@@JRE85 that only works when the opposition isn't sat 12 yards from goal so why is he doing it when we already have creative players in those positions?
Gomez should be starting at LB. He was good for Liverpool last season whilst Trippier was bang average and Shaw mostly injured. Pickford Walker Stones Geuhi Gomez Rice Trent Jude Saka Kane Foden
It's staggering how much people underrate Trent. He has to start. His passing is like Beckham, being able to stretch the pitch and provide quality crosses every time
it's because most don't watch the actual games, just highlights and stats. Rooney talking about Trent was embarrassing and why he'll never succeed as a coach.
@superstarDJ537 Trent a wonderful gifted player no doubt but he's no CM and isn't a natural defender play him at right back and cover his defensive fragilities or leave him out.
Rooney gets to much stick he’s a legend. Can no one else remember when he first come into the light and you couldn’t wait to see him play?! For the mid 30s onwards you know
Dont know how possible this is but a player debate should definitely be a thing. Get a player in from every team in the premier league to talk about their seasons. Would be a great watch
What 20 media trained pros all saying the same 10 words like they do in post match interviews and press conferences. Not sure that would be any good in todays world unfortunately
All the talk about needing Grealish for the experience. England do have Kane, Stones, Walker and Trent in the squad. Bellingham has shown he's capable of handling pressure as well.
No one outside Liverpool fans seem to appreciate how good Quansah is. He's been keeping a french international CB out of the team. He maybe young but he's class.
He's decent.. he shouldn't be near the England squad for me.. not to say in the future he won't make it.. but I wouldn't of taken Mainoo either yet.. and I think he's class.. Let them have a break after their first season.. they aren't going to start.. it's better for their career and future England career if they don't go.. Invite to spend time with the squad as part of their holiday if you think they have a future.. I would look at do the same with that Moore and Nwaneri after their performances at the U17s.. Let them know they are on the right track but this one has come a tad early
@@Bullet-Tooth-Tony- ....Lewis dunk has continued to improve year on year, and adapted to multiple styles of play, playing out from the back under De Zerbi and being more pragmatic with Potter. He worked in both systems. From watching Branthwaite, he's pretty clumsy on the ball and misplaces too many passes to play out. He's been decent at Everton this year, good for his age, but overall he's an average lower half CB. The hype around his is purely because of potential. His metrics are unremarkable.
What wazza says here is solid 58:38 Defence being our weakest position. Get 3 at the back. 2 number 6's. With posession 3-2-3-2. Out of posession Transition into 4-4-2 Pickford. Walker Stones Gomez (up for debate) Rice TAA (up for debate) Saka Bellingham Foden Kane Bowen
If Stones isn't fit, I think Gomez, Guehi, Konsa and Walker or Trent isn't a terrible backline. Lot of pace, play a high line. When Brazil came to Wembley and won in March, they had 5 debutants, 3 in defence, a goalie and another in midfield. It's not ideal, but there's evidence it can work. It's on Gareth and his staff to prep and organize the players so they can execute.
Nah utds fridge is much fuller than city's and it's made out of steel instead of plastic 💪 Utd also pay their utility bill unlike city rigging it so they don't have to pay 😂
@@BLUEMOON73MCFC Why does it matter where you live? Utd are a global fanbase, aslong as you're passionate about your club you could be from Mars for all I care. Man city got the plastic nickname because the club has been manufactured overnight by an oil state whereas utds growth took decades to build organically with brick and mortar
I'm not being funny but if Southgate is wanting to play Gallagher for balance as Gary says, Gallagher will play. This whole narrative about what fans think and it being 'uhh' is a nonsense. The fans aren't the manager of the England national team. This is the issue with England in the major competitions, it's not just the media, the fans feel as though they're entitled to winning competitions and like they know best. Didier Deschamps in 2018 played Matuidi over Ousmane Dembele and Nabil Fekir consistently throughout that World Cup, do you think France fans wanted to see Matuidi (baller btw) over those type of flair players? No. Did they care after they won it? No. Southgate cannot bend if this is the case with Gallagher or Trent.
I want Trent to start on Sunday but IMO Gallagher should be the only other option. Mainoo or Wharton are not ready to start yet at a major tournament. And the whole issue with Friday’s game was the press was off and there is no better presser than Gallagher. He’s so underrated.
There was a good picture of him and he's one of the more famous England players. Crazy, and depressing, how much people are overthinking this. If it was any other player captured flying a paper plane they would've used that picture instead. It's that simple.
Gomez LB, played there for Liverpool. Tucks in as 3rd CB. Has pace to deal with transitions. Would allow Stones or Walker to step into midfield. Gordon LW, keeping width and will graft off the ball. Rice, Bellingham and Foden in midfield.
Very nice to see how people are listening to and considering each other's opinions here. Very well handled by Neville. He's becoming a great presenter.
Can tell how much Wayne Rooney’s knowledge of the game has took an even bigger step up as he’s analysing and explaining players, positions and set ups in ways other people aren’t and he’s also explain WHY which is key for the viewers. He’s obviously had couple rough jobs but it’s clear he’s gunna be a great successful manager in time.
Im not sure why or how Joe Gomez isnt being mentioned to start, hes had a great season and can play across the back line and won it all. Has major experience
When someone says Trent can't defend it's nice of them to identify themselves as people that don't actually watch football and get all their ball knowledge from social media. He had the third highest interceptions in our squad, and the second highest ball recoveries (winning second balls) this season. DId he get dribbled past alot? Yes, but he also inverts every game and people go past him after he tries to cut off lanes. Could he be better defensively? Yes, but so could ALOT of defenders/midfielders in the England squad.
