This is called a Brick Joke, where an event disappears entirely early on, possibly with no punchline, only to appear much later on out of the blue as a punchline, subverting expectations at the beginning and the end. Here's one I know, works best if you tell them about 30 minutes apart. How do you put a giraffe into a refrigerator? Open the door, put in the giraffe, and close the door. How do you put an elephant into a refrigerator? Open the refrigerator, take out the giraffe, put in the elephant and close the door. The lions, as king of the jungle, are hosting an animal conference. All the animals attend except for one. Which animal doesn't attend? The elephant. It's still in the refrigerator. You are being chased through the jungle by a group of natives trying to kill you. You come to a river with a sign that says WARNING: CROCODILES. How do you survive? You jump into the river and swim across. The crocodiles are still at the lions' animal meeting.
