I wanted to clarify one thing. I think I know the answer too. Just wanted to verify before installing Magisk. Data will be retained after installing Magisk via sideload right? I installed Lineage OS 19.1 on my OnePlus 9 Pro and installed all the apps that I wanted and restored everything which took almost a an hour or two and I do not want to go through that again if data is lost so :D Thanks for the video :)

Hey, I've already been using LineageOS 18 for like a year on my OnePlus 5, but I've been using it kind of a wrong way because I've never updated it. I've only flashed the firmware and rooted it with Magisk. But recently I clear updated to the new LineageOS 19.1, and decided to use it updating every week, like it was intended. Of course, I've rooted it with Magisk like in this video, but unfortunately next week the update removed root privilege. I've read about it and figured out that I need to patch the boot.img from LineageOS zip, but in your video you just update it and it's all done. What can be a reason that the update has broken the Magisk for me? And if I patch boot.img and flash it, will it be a fix forever or only for one time? Please let me know if you have any idea
Hey, thanks for your comment. I don't think there is any "wrong" way to use your device ;) There have been some issues with OTA. It may depend on the device (Samsung? topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root). It could also depend on the Magisk version. Is it possible that it was an older version that got removed? The newer versions seem to have some way of preserving itself.
Instead of downloading it a second time, you could rename back to Apk the file that you previously renamed to Zip and copy it to your smartphone’s memory and install it as a regular application.
Hello, thanks for the suggestion. I might not be able to get to it right away, but I will definitely look into doing this video. My quick thoughts are: If LOS 20 requires a manual upgrade, then dirty flash LOS 20 in recovery (don't wipe anything), reboot to recovery without booting LOS, and then flash gapps 20 (this is where it might fail if gapps requires a clean install, but it should work as long as you don't boot into LOS 20 before installing). Magisk should still remain without having to do much.
I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Which device and versions of lineage / magisk are you using? Sometimes it could vary or have device-specific issues.
@@cuervorinaldi1 That seems to be the same as I had. Are you on lineage 19.1 as well? I think lineage 19.1 may have that new feature of preserving things. If still on lineage 18, the result maybe different.
@@cuervorinaldi1 This is tricky. I actually have a oneplus 6t, but I don't imagine that makes much difference. Does Magisk say "Ramdisk: Yes" when installed? Assuming that you updated lineage via the built in OTA, and installed using lineage recovery. It will be hard for me to test again until there's a new OTA, but are you able to reinstall Magisk?
In my experience patching the boot image is not necessary. Using the method in the video should work for OnePlus 7 pro as well. I read some posts saying the same thing. Let me know how it goes.

hello ive tried this method on my Redmi Note 7 with the same lineage os version and when i sideload it, and i was stuck in fastboot do you have any other way? thank you
@@ashroomie Hopefully you didn't lose any data. I'm not so sure why it's stuck. Are you able to reflash lineage recovery and then reflash lineage and start over?
