Discovering if jaboticaba cuttings rooted successfully. Plinia sp. Anomaly jaboticaba is a rare variety of jabuticaba that has a tendency to flower and fruit at a small size. Anomaly refers to the mother tree that Flying Fox Fruits Nursery propagated these from. These cuttings are from a seedling of that mother tree. This anomaly seedling just started to develop flower buds at just 2 years old.
Some cuttings got Clonex (IBA) hormone, some cuttings got Dip-n-Grow (NAA and IBA) hormones and some cuttings were rooted without any hormones at all. Root Riot plugs were used for some of the cuttings.
Monthly average humidity was 94% and average temperature in the rooting dome was 75F

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this and not being a greedy plant guy like alot of others in our hobby that think they have patent on a fruit from Brazil.

Amazing work man! jabos with exposed roots will typically push suckers from the roots. late to the party on this vid but would be interesting to hear if those rooting leaves (like wtf man, rooting leaves, your good) did eventually push a growing plant. got a thumbs up subscribe here, very nice

I have seen a lot of people try to root using water without success. I believe the humid peat moss is a much better medium to try with. Let me know if you have success! I have better luck with smaller cuttings.

Wow all your jaboticabas collection are really green and healthy what kind of soil or compost or medium you use on your mature jaboticabas and what kind of fertilizer I have a year growing jaboticabas and there so much to learn . I use holly tone and peat moss and compost and perlite I also use mulch on top gromulch .do u know any recommendations on mulch too there's so many different kinds of mulch out there .

Very cool!! You have made me want to try. Now I need to know your hormones you use on it. I don't mind the wait in a humidity dome
@GrowTropicalFruits
@GrowTropicalFruits 3 года назад
Some cuttings were using Dip 'N' Grow which uses both NAA and IBA hormones. Some cuttings were using Clonex gel which uses IBA hormone. Some rooted leaves were not using any hormone at all. I believe the largest factors are: the amount of light, high humidity and moist peat moss. Root Riot cubes are also very helpful.

Can you summarize what you think are the critical factors of success to getting a cutting to take?
@GrowTropicalFruits
@GrowTropicalFruits 3 года назад
I am still learning but I can tell you the humidity monthly average was 94%, and an average temp of 75F (86F high, 67F low) The humidity dome was in filtered indirect sunlight (direct sunlight will cook everything inside)

Those are expanded clay pebbles that are commonly used in hydroponic grows, good at holding some moisture. The brand I used is Hydroton.

@GrowTropicalFruits
@GrowTropicalFruits 2 года назад
I have not been successful but if you do try, give it a more concentrated hormone. Also you'll need to keep them in very high humidity and planted in moist peat moss. The process will likely take 2 months or more for larger cuttings. Wear gloves when handling the hormones.

How do you prevent rot in the humidity dome?
@GrowTropicalFruits
@GrowTropicalFruits Год назад
I am still working on that myself, I think finding the correct balance of moisture in the peat is the main factor, too wet and it starts rotting.

They root but later on the plant die, that’s what the jaboticaba experts in Brazil say, they succeeded the rooting but I never heard they actually grow and fruit..
@GrowTropicalFruits
@GrowTropicalFruits 2 года назад
If the plant is removed from high humidity too quickly or if the roots are not developed enough then the plant can die. I have several rooted cuttings that are still alive after over 1 year. I have even included examples of older rooted cuttings at the 21:00 minute mark. As far as them fruiting is concerned. It already takes many years for a seedling to fruit so it makes sense that a rooted cutting would also take many years to fruit. So I am not surprised you haven't heard of someone fruiting a rooted cutting since not many people are successful in rooting the cutting in the first place. Thanks for watching and hopefully one day I can show a fruiting jaboticaba that was propagated from cutting.
