This video is a compilation of the most prominent appearances of Rope Dart or Meteor Hammer (or objects used in a similar manner) in major film releases. (Full film list below)
Songs:
Brad Sucks - Dirtbag
The Mountain Goats - Lovecraft in Brooklyn
Ninja Assassin (2009) 0:05
Legendary Weapons of China (1982) 0:34
Stormbreaker (2006) 1:33
Ong Bak 2 (2008) 2:18
Fong Sai Yuk (1993) 2:56
Heroes of the East (1978) 4:39
The Shaolin Temple (1982) 6:33
Romeo Must Die (2000) 7:16
Shanghai Noon (2000) 8:04
Magnificent Warriors (1987) 9:11
Blade of Fury (1978) 10:36
Yao's Young Warriors (1983) 11:58
Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003) 13:49
South Shaolin Master (1984) 16:48
Five Shaolin Masters (1974) 17:48
The Gang Master (1982) 20:49
Film clips are loosely organized in ascending order of complexity, choreography or plain awesomeness.
I apologize for the quality of some of the clips, but I was unable to find better examples. I own copies of the majority of these films, but some were a little more difficult to procure. I also have recut or otherwise edited some of the clips to only show the fight scenes in a linear portrayal of movement.
This video was created as an educational tool, its purpose is to demonstrate techniques for performance and martial training. I am not making money from this video, nor do I intend to. The contents of this video are all entirely the possession of the original rights holders, I make no claim of ownership, moreover, I would like to thank the original creators for such fantastic films. :)

Honestly, the scene from Kill Bill is *still* the craziest. The way they filmed that scene, the use of sound and the blades. That thing just seemed soooooooo dangerous. It’s kind of a tough scene to watch because you almost feel like you’re in danger just by watching it...

It is Suruchin invented by okinawan fisher men. The moment chain saw came out of the steel spiked ball upon pressing some button. At that moment it turned to stupid science fiction.

At first I wonder why there were so many unnecessary cuts, especially when the actor, for example Jet Li knows how to use the meteor hammer. But then I realized, unlike sword or staff, you can't really slow down or stop the hit mid flight. And no matter how soft the meteor ball, at that kind of velocity, the kinetic energy it produced would probably shatter skulls and bones. There would be a massive amount of dead and injured stuntmen if they try to one-take it.

Good point! Director: can you do one take? Jet Li: Can you fix skull fractures? Stuntmen: NOPE!

1) no actress, in any genre, can outshine michelle yeoh. both on screen and off, she is the absolute best of the best. 2) i always smile during the scene you posted from kill bill, when go go gets knocked off the table and the foley artist uses bowling pin sounds. i used to collect kung fu, wuxia, and sword films. at one time, i had 800 titles, and i had only made a dent in what is out there to be collected. i sure hope someone out there is preserving these priceless cinematic treasures.
@Nathaniel_The_Evil_One

The actor is Chiaki Kuriyama, not Michelle Yeoh. Also, the correct term is "actor". "Actor" is used with both sexes, as is the word "doctor" or "chiropractor". Imagine..."doctress" 🤢
@cheezyridr
@cheezyridr 6 месяцев назад
@@Nathaniel_The_Evil_One i never said the scene from kill bill had michelle yeoh. if you notice, my mention of michelle is after a designation of "1" and the part mentioning the scene from kill bill is under designation "2". lastly, your claim about the word actress is not supported by webster's dictionary. as they are , (and have long been) considered the authority on the meaning, spelling, and use of words in the english language, you may wish to make use of one before you correct someone in the future. maybe also work on reading comprehension. have a nice day 🙂

very cool & inspirational. Lots of stuff that can really be done, some stuff that can't. Which is always good to watch, and keep in mind. Personally I like both the fantasy aspects of martial arts, because the mystery & magic that it seemed to be in my childhood,and the reality of how the weapons can an do actually work. I have seen almost all these movies...I will have to catch up on the 2 or 3 I haven't!

Many of the Shaolin temple movies have rope dart sequences in them. Back in the day, this was the only place you would see this secret art form practiced. In many ways it's concerning to know that so many people are learning how to do this. There was a time when only elite and royalty were taught this sacred fighting art form. The world is a much more dangerous place because no one is kept in check anymore. I pray that all of you who practice this deadly art consider yourselves as defenders of the innocent and a weapon of God!

I fashioned one myself, non lethal edge I think, primarily, I want to use it to improve my body's overall coordination, and many of the moves shown in these movies are the inspiration for chain knife moves in shadow fight. Also, as much as a respectable weapon it is, it is very difficult to tame and can be easily used against the user.

Joel Ting Yeah, a bit sloppy. There's a chain whip move called "snake cuts wrist", which you use to decelerate the weapon by letting it wrap you and using your wrist to keep the sharp head away. Sadly, he didn't do that. Not impossibly bad technique, but should have been avoided. :P

Is kicking a meteor hammer possible?
@acidblood13
@acidblood13 7 лет назад
+Galvin Stanley Ow. I guess it's possible, (using the sole of your foot, plus shoes) but usually it would be safer to kick the rope close to the hammer. If the hammer is in motion this would create a fast rotation and return, if the hammer's at rest (or on the ground) it is easier to get your foot under the rope than under the hammer itself. When the hammer is on the ground another option is to stomp the rope, causing the hammer to roll onto your foot so you can quickly kick it forward.
@galvinstanley3235
@galvinstanley3235 7 лет назад
acidblood13 If you kicked the rope would you still get the same speed and power though?
@acidblood13
@acidblood13 7 лет назад
+Galvin Stanley I think so. If you use rotational inertia correctly it could possibly be even faster.

The classic 5 Element Ninja had a good scene. Still a good watch!!

I didn't know I needed to see this, but I did. Also, there's a short kind of prequel standalone episode to Netflix's Marco Polo about One Hundred Eyes (aptly named "Marco Polo: One Hundred Eyes") where he uses a rope dart to kill a bunch of invading Mongols right at the beginning.

Glad you liked it. I've seen that Hundred Eyes episode, it's definitely going in the next video. Technically it's a super long chain whip, but the techniques are basically interchangeable. 😁

@@acidblood13 I remember it being metal, but having a dart on the end, but I haven't seen it in a while so I'll defer to your expertise.

I haven't seen Shanghai Noon -- and can just I say that idk how you did it, vid poster, but I appreciate that the movie title shows up when I move the time-tracker view dot thingamabob? -- but I want to now. Because there's just something fun and unexpected about the idea of martial arts-meets-western (I just hope it doesn't suck).

I know a sort of tirck to avoiding these easier. Don't watch the fast blade, watch the hand/foot that flings it around. You can tell where they will generally try to hit.

Rope darts are really good range weapons
@acidblood13
@acidblood13 3 года назад
It isn't shown very often in film, but they're really good at any range. Depending on their blade design they can be used as daggers, the rope can be held in the hands for wrapping, blocking and choking. Very versatile weapon.

I recommend 3/16 boat or dingy rope. It’s perfect because it’s stronger and lighter than a thin chain and when dangling even a very sharp knife at full swing won’t slice it A lot more friction and rope burns but it’ll last years without tearing or wearing out You can climb with it and hang somebody with it Don’t use cotton linen rope because it’ll break on you and your weapon could smash something or hurt someone !

In the movie of Transporter 2 there is a rope dart or meteor hammer fight, too...
@acidblood13
@acidblood13 4 года назад
It's a good fight, but he doesn't really use the hose like a dart, it's more like sarong or rope tangling moves. The Jet Li hose fight in Romeo Must Die is a better example. 👍
