I was there when I was 15 years old !!!!! It was the second time Rory came to Madrid, and the second I could see him live. It ' s amazing to find this in RU-vid after 35 years !!!! The crowd on fire , Rory at his best...I ' ve never forget that concert...and now here it is again ....I can' t believe it. Rory made here a special improvised intro while Rod fixed some parts of his drums. Check it out !!!!

"33 Bloody Years Ago People!" is right... 37 now. Rory was doing stuff that people STILL haven't figured out. They mimic, but they can't do it. That's good and bad. Good because Rory stands as a giant among Blues performers,--a game changer. Bad because he's a tough act to follow.

If the ultimate fender strat got stolen, then found in some ditch, cold, rained on and weather beat then found again and nursed back to life by it's owner.Then this is what it would sound like.
of all his songs this was probably the one where he usually did his best & most varied improvised end solos (in this one example of thousands, the solo starts 4:40). strange, but i always felt he never quite got the right intro, improvised or not, to this song. this period he did a funky chord routine; then stop; then count off the 1234. from about 78 on, he did a solea (flamenco) like intro before a beat came in for a pretty standard rock opening. but I always think there's some perfect intro for this song that he never did :) Maybe it's something to do with the chord structure of the song that makes the ideal intro so difficult to find. the original studio version, distant accordion solo, opening isn't too effective, even if it's got a vibe, but when the bass & drum comes in it feels like it goes down a beat in tempo, or something. maybe it goes from major to minor. I don't know. maybe it's a strange song, but it's one that RG usually worked his magic on. but the perfect opening? never happened. maybe it would have if he did a new studio version. funny but on the Irish Tour version, which has a highlight end solo, there's no opening! i wonder if it was just cut.

Your not wrong mate, and he didn't make the Rolling Stones Mag-Top 100 guitarists. In actual fact not many artists mention him at all. One can only assume the have missed one of the best entertainers of all time (Sad for them)or they really think JACK WHITE IS BETTER THAN THIS!
an irrelevant thought. when this song was written in '73, "tattoo'd lady" meant a circus performer - a semi-freakish individual - so presumably there were not as many tattooed ladies about in '73 as there are now.
I've seen this list before. How can a Magizine dedicated to music be so F'd up putting this list together. I think it's all about money. It's got nothing to do with guitar players as far a I can tell.
