Its so amazing, Rose has got to watch the interpreter, when one of the panel asks her a question, but she also tries to look at the person who has asked her a question. She can multi task amazingly well. I so wish society would compromise more on behalf of the deaf person, rather than the deaf person have to compromise so they can communicate. She has a wonderful attitude to her deafness. Ive often said to my husband, who is very hard of hearing, he is so lucky he cant hear our noisy neighbours!!!

I know plenty of people who have the capacity to hear but do. not. listen. And even on a GOOD day, they've "heard" yet unable to comprehend. Brava, brava Rose! You're leading the pack!

I used to teach in a special needs school where it was a signing environment. We ALL learnt to sign. I LOVED IT . WE SHOULD ALL LEARN TO SIGN . BUT I STILL THINK THE BEST SIGN FOR EVERYONE IS A ....SMILE.

I feel disabled people are constantly told to get a job, but so many people are locked out of employment. Because it inconveniences employers.

What an amazing woman. . Spent all morning trying to get through on the phone to someone and felt miserable about having to have waited so long in the queue. And then you have this wonderful woman telling us how she has to rely on email only to meet responses entire days later etc, just to get through to someone. Humbled by her gratitude, strength and positive attitude. May it be made easy with every passing day.

I absolutely loved the movie Children of a Lessor God that starred a deaf actress, Marlee Matlin who won an Academy Award for her role in the movie. I just love the way deaf people communicate with other people.

I am amazed at Rose's success with her communication with others. Did Giovanni acceptance of her deafness help her and others to and others to accept her deafness?? And his communication with her. It appeared that he greatly understood what she was saying and communicated very well with her. Well done to the both of them. Hope he continues to speak and understand her and their group of friends!!! Good to read!!!!

This is so beautifully expressed and clearly explained. We all need to take more time with each other to adapt to each other’s ways of communicating. I have a good friend who is deaf, we met because she started doing my hair. I can’t sign (though I want to learn) but I have never had a problem communicating with my friend. There are so many ways we can express ourselves.

A truly talented and courageous young woman. Her honesty is refreshing. I wish her every success. If it is what she wants, I hope she will connect someday with a good young man who is worthy of her. I continue to push for someone in the US or UK to produce a play, movie, or TV special remake of "Children of a Lesser God," with Rose in the female lead as Sarah, a deaf young woman. It is a role she was born to play. Is anyone with me?

Very good interview. However, many foreigners have much the same problems trying to express themselves in English, which may be a foreign language to them. I certainly know how frustrating it is as well as the 'dinner-table' conversation - you feel so alone having no understanding of what these people are talking about - can't say either yeah or nay to what they are asking. However, I learned very quickly to read people's faces, so if I had an idea of what they were talking about, I could make it out. Naturally, I picked up the English language very quickly too, like Giovanni did. He probably understood Rose's 'loneliness' very well, having experienced some of the same when he first came here.

My partner is partially deaf, and my daughter has selective mutism, both me and my partner have said for many years that rather than just foreign language being compulsory in school, everybody should be taught how to sign too, it would break down so many barriers just in this country alone. Whilst I understand it may not be to everybody's needs or desires I just feel we the people of the hearing community would benefit greatly from those restrictions being removed at an early age.

Signing should be in the NATIONAL CURRICULUM. This would be a Unifying lesson and skill. Please put it in NOW . NOW ..NOW .

Heard rose auditioned for the role of the doctor who companion last year along with paige sandhu meena from emmerdale but millie gibson kelly from corrie got the part after ncuti gatwa the new doctor did a screen audition with millie

Most people are so scared of being "different",....whether its mental health or disability or anything where people fear their "difference"makes them less valued or stigmatised in some way or outside of the mainstream or "ingroup". As Rose says the world or our society is so set up for certain people and anything which does not fit that is seen as inconvenient or less than or somehow diminished. It is only until really recently that the mainstream have started to take seriously more people marginalised in our society for whatever reason and often it is a token effort or an after thought or when it feels "safe"to do so,abit like Loose women who for years just folllowed mainstream society's attitudes or what was considered the majority acceptable norms or viewpoints.

Surprisingly there is still an embarrassment with wearing glasses, I have needed them for lots of different reasons from a young age. There are people who benefit from using them and have been prescribed them, but treat it as shameful and aging to put on.
