The Ducks were as big as they could be in this moment. Looking back on that season, I blame Helfrich for not getting them this pumped for the National Championship game.
Dustin Garrett To be honest Mariota isn’t much better than Jameis in the NFL, it’s just the Titans play in an easier division with easier schedule than the Buccaneers do. If he’d gone first he’d only be a little bit better than Jameis was. Both were not that great.
I was at this game. It was insane! After that Jameis fumble they showed the replay during the commercial and you could hear almost the entire stadium laughing at him. I almost felt bad for him.
To be fair to winstion, he was going up against the best QB that year, his defense/RB core did not show up, and dear god those turnovers just killed whatever momentum FSU had.
I’ve been an Oregon fan over 25 years and this is no doubt one of my 3 favorite games to watch. Obviously the offense played incredibly, but watching what the defense was capable of was so much better. And after tracking Thomas Tyner all through High School this is the player that I expected when he signed. Shame his career was cut short, kid had absolutely unreal field vision and acceleration.
Is no one talking about how Dalvin Cook looks so terrible in this game with all his fumbles and turned out to be one of the top RBs in the NFL right now. Amazing
+fishinsolitude How do you figure? FSU was overrated. I would take the 2011 national champ runnerup Oregon over last years. They could have beaten Auburn, was close by only 3 points. They were a complete team, from the defense standpoint as well. Compared to last year, just that much better. Last year, defensively they kept bend but don't break, and turnovers to make the difference (which doesn't work vs good physical teams that don't beat themselves consistently). I don't think I saw "completeness" last year, and not even this game with FSU going for 500+ yards and shooting themselves in the foot (albeit, Oregon did force 3 of those turnovers). This was not the most complete game they ever played. Look to 2011.
+Fish4Man61 I remember the 2011 team very well. I also remember the National Championship game with Auburn and agree with you, it was a close game. However, to say Florida State was overrated just holds no water. They were in the Rose Bowl because they earned it, like it or not. I will stand on my statement. The entire Oregon team came to play and they dominated this game from start to finish. While the offense keep the heat on with quick scoring drives, the defense put the clamps on Florida State. It is the finest, most complete game ever played by the Oregon Ducks. By the way, when I say "finest and most complete game", that includes winning the game. (Oregon 59 Florida State 20)
fishinsolitude No, FSU was overrated. They only came in because they didn't lose. That said, TCU lost to the no5 team, and played a much tougher schedule - and had a better 60 minutes of play for 10 other games, by a large margin - to what FSU did. FSU barely escaped on several games, like the GT game just before the playoff. TCU deserved it more, and were visibly and logically the better team. But for some reason people still count a very good loss under a bad win vs a nobody (it should be the opposite. Barely losing to Baylor should be rewarded - far more than escaping by a 3-8 team - that FSU did earlier in the year. So no, I do not buy that FSU should have even been given the chance to play Oregon. They weren't a dominate team by any stretch.
@@jacklong5158 Hmm, FSU settles for $950k, plus she has never publicly denied that he didn't. So, with his illustrious history of stealing crab legs, table top ranting and punching an Uber driver.......I'll believe her.
This is vintage Oregon right here. That's how they want to win games. Yes it may seem close for a while but once they start to wear you down they just pour it on.
oregondork ....why does it matter what year it is? The philosophy is still the same. And I know all about the 10-11 season. That was their best team ever. Was a season ticket holder back then.
@@cruz_sandoval Hahaha yeah I'm a big football fan I know who Jalen Ramsey is I just didn't realize that was him lol. Not surprising that it's Ramsey tho, he does stuff like that to nice players all the time.
@@christbh16 Yeah I'm a big Mariota fan, but never really been a big Ramsey guy. He always seems to be getting in the faces of nice players for no reason.
This game feels like a lifetime ago but wow, the Ducks had a GREAT team that year and came so close to winning it all. It's a shame they came out flat in the championship game. Go Ducks 2019-20!
@@Lordwxbb thank you. No one talks anout about how half the recieving core was suspended for weed or injured during the winter break. Also our best corner got injured as well
13:01 is the reason why I will never forget this game. Because of Winston's behavior I came in wanting to see Florida State humiliated. I am not normally an Oregon fan just because I watch mostly SEC football. But 13:01 makes this one of my favorite games of all time. I don't think I have ever seen something so dumb, so mind-blowing, so humiliating and so unexplainable as what happened on this play. I was literally rolling on the ground laughing.
I like to spite my uncle who's an FSU fan by cheering against them, haha. FSU has a history of being a flashy hot doggin cocky bunch that has made it's living off of running up the score on basketball schools in their conference.
@@jacklong5158 also Texas has top 5 recruiting classes every year and can’t do shit with them. So having good recruiting doesn’t necessarily mean Jack shit
yeah, too bad Ducks always lose the Big ones that count. like OSU NC game or Auburn NC game or losses to Stanford. keeping them out of NC game. can never quite recruit enough talent.
I'd say the debate is over. Mariota is just better. Better in all aspects. He beat Jameis in college and the NFL, he won a playoff game before Jameis, and he doesn't have off the field issues like Jameis continues to have. Go ahead and pick apart the stats and yeah, Jameis may have a few more yards and a few less interceptions (Mariota didn't have the greatest year last year), But being a good QB and the face of a franchise is about decision making, on and off the field. And there is seriously no debate that Mariota absolutely crushes Jameis in this vital aspect of being a franchise QB. Marcus leads a team while Jameis eats his fingers and gropes Uber drivers.
You have to take into consideration offensive line, available receivers etc. Let's be real, FSU hasn't had a good O Line since 2013. Jameis is just a little lost and he keeps drinking alcohol like an idiot if he stops doing that he'll stop with the petty crimes, and groping women like an even bigger idiot, and become a half decent person. Taking into consideration how Jameis had a trash O Line this season and how FSU had to come from behind almost every game, I would say that both are perfect in their own ways and it's hard to say who's better
I agree for the most part... Mariota is a way better athlete and commits less turnovers... Jameis is good and had a spectacular year during his he is an trophy campaign but not as explosive as Mariota!!
UofO Class of 2018 and OMB member reporting in! I went with to this game with the band almost ten years ago and it's one of the best memories of my entire college career!
I remember watching this back in high school with my dad. Marcus, my favorite quarterback, leading my favorite team, the Ducks. And to boot, consistently interesting and fashionable uniforms. Such good times.
I like how ACC and SEC fans said that Oregon couldn't beat a team in either conference. Well, this proves you that they can. Not to mention they defeated Tennessee and Virginia last year.
ZzNoxious -KnockoutzZ Hate the SEC........but are we REALLY gonna count Tennessee whos barely been relevant this Century?? The Ducks got beat by Auburn in the title and got crushed by LSU in the Regular season. and Bama wouldve beaten them too if they got past Ohio St
+Mardochee Jean Not true, they have beat many "good" teams. They cleaned Stanford's clock last year and this year. You sound pretty ignorant on the subject and are just repeating SEC ignorance. Try traveling and playing a tougher non conference schedule before you talk smack. SEC always schedule an extra cupcake towards the end of the season. That doesn't sound like a tough conference to me, more like a bunch of scared pussies. Why doesn't Saban ever take his team out west? Why did he cancel a home and home against Oregon? Why did he try and campaign to change the rules so teams couldn't run tempo? Even he doesn't have confidence in beating an Oregon tempo team.
I screwed up with Alabama canceling, I meant to say Georgia. Also Texas A&M. But regardless, your greatness lost by 16 to Ole Miss so that is pretty damn funny. No I guess Louisiana-Monroe and Charleston Southern aren't cupcakes. LMAO. Wow you are stupid. Although you got to watch out for Middle Tennessee, those guys can put up some points, lol. Seriously when has any SEC team flown out west and played a Stanford, USC, or Oregon. Most of the time they will only play on a neutral field that is within driving distance. And you obviously know nothing about Oregon, cause they have played and beat more than 5-7 teams. I do enjoy how you accuse me of lying then turn around and do the same thing.
Thank you RU-vid for reminding me of this game. FSU skating by, playing sloppy, and being let back in games by weak competition all year and when I saw they were matched up against Oregon I was giddy for this game. Watching this FSU team be humiliated on one of the biggest stages in CFB football was so fulfilling.
Not really this....... This was just a great offensive team vs a team with no Offensive Line. FSU went 10 - 3 the next 2 seasons after this year. It was 2017 when the downfall came.
Ya there were a lot of oregon fans pulling for Bama in that game. Obviously with how oregon came out in the championship, it wouldn't have changed anything, but man the hype would have been insane. Ohio state proved a strong opponent tho. Plus we got to get em back this year in their own house. Just a shame they never had to step into autzen last year when covid hit.
I was at this game. I have to tell everyone that if you ever get the chance to attend a Rose Bowl game in Pasadena, you should do it because you will not be disappointed. My Ducks put the hammer down on Florida state this Day. Best Day Ever!!
Norma Jackson this Oregon team is probably one of the greatest team of all time crazy good , they could’ve beat Osu if they’re key players haven’t gotten suspended
It's Aug 13th, 2017 1:08 AM EST and it's still fresh! LET'S GO DUCKS and THANK YOU, Marcus, for being our 1st Heisman Trophy Winner. And thank you to that team we had that year who gave a 110%!!!
this Oregon team was extremely good with a high powered offense and a decent defense , sadly Oregon isn't the same but will get better and will go to National Championship #GoDucks
Yeah and he's gone before you know it "National Champions". Go join a real conference. Once y'all finally played a legit team you lost. You were never good and won't be for a long, long time
Only one of five of the FSU turnovers was NOT caused by Oregon's D. If you don't belive it, you should probably watch/rewatch the highlight video brudder.
Steve Kelly You're right Jameis had a brain fart and forgot to throw the football so it went from a brain fart to the "butt fumble" We might add that play to our montage next season as the "Drop Six" have that go along with "The Pick"....
Worst no call for holding on that 2 point conversion. Needless to say, FSU defense was piss poor all season long. Their offense did not bail them out in this game by no means.
13:17 I respect those linemen for messing up and getting up off their asses and trying their hardest to try and tackle the faster, and more athletic d-linemen
At 15:57 when Wilson fumbles anyone else notice all the other Oregon players push him out of the way and kind of step over him except for number 4 on Oregon who was about to walk away but comes back to help him up. I just always thought that was a real class act by that guy
I'm a Duck fan, and while I still think our jerseys are by far the best, you guys have some dope ones yourselves. And I think from an unbiased standpoint that you should be #3 in the playoff, but eh. #GoDucks #Forever
Too bad Oregon had 1/2 their team on the Disabled List or in Jail by the Natty Game... would have given us Buckeyes a Classic Game for the Ages to look back on !!! Maybe even overtime...
haha well you are right about that. he does know how to turn the ball over. i mean they went head to head and look who won. Mariota made Winston look like a piece of shit. and idk what highlights you watched but if you watched these same highlights, i think mariota proved himself as a better Quarterback overall.
Something I don’t remember watching live. It was 25-20 with 7 min left in the 3rd. Then it was 45-20 with a minute and a half left in the 3rd. They put up 20 points in 5 and a half minutes
+michael jasper I would have to disagree, they drafted mariota while they had a better quarterback in Mettenberger. Mariota didn't help the titans at all. Same as last year. While winston Helped the Bucs big time.
I think the total opposite. Without bringing in shoulda woulda couldas and ifs into this conversation, the offensive scheme FSU brought into this game left Oregon overmatched. However, receivers dropped passes and didnt execute. Their lack of execution exacerbated the penalty of the turnovers. Furthermore, lack of pursuit and effective tackling contributed to the warped scoreboard. This means both offensive schemes worked to the benefit of the respective teams. Nether defense was equipped to deal with the offenses schemes. Therefore, the defense that caused the most turnovers determined the outcome of this game rather than a disparity in skill level.
CajunMetalHead1994 that's exactly my point. Thanks for agreeing with me. Without the turnovers this game is a shootout... with turnovers, it's a blowout....
+Katavicta most of the turnovers were forced. Fsu had never faced such a fast offense and it overwhelmed them. I have honestly never seen a top notch team just give up in the 4th the way fsu did, players were just walking around it was sad.
Damn I miss this team. Miss this offense and offensive play calling. I really hope Cristobal can find an imaginative play caller unlike Arroyo. That guy drove me insane every time I watched a game!
I like RU-vid Yeah you know like that famous saying if you’re accused you’re automatically guilty no questions asked. People like you are the reason innocent people like Brian Banks are sentenced to a rape crime they didn’t even commit.
Lol Oregon looks good against a shitty team, but then got seriously exposed against Ohio State. 42-20 loss and +3 TO margin? If the TO battle was even Oregon would have lost 60-10
Jarred Barker ducks were pretty bad last year. Happens with 5 starters out and an injured QB. At least their an honest program with integrity. Unlike cheating OSU.
