1977!!! This is that "Baby Let's Get Back Together" type of Music. For some Reason I always Think of the Movie "Baby Boy" when I Hear this Song though. I guess because that's where I First Heard it From.
...***ROSE ROYCE TRIVIA TIME!!!*** ...I wasn't gonna do this one, but, Coffee...let's WISH toooooo iiitttttt..... Rose Royce was a funk / soul band that had just come off of a HUGE #1 Pop & R&B tune ("Car Wash") in 1976...(CONT.) ...Their 1977 LP "In Full Bloom" had the 1st single, "Do Your Dance", which was an underground Disco hit, and the 2nd single "Ooh Boy (I Love You So)" was a Top 10 R&B tune...but, "Wishing..." BOMBED, here in the USA!! (...It was was huge in the UK, tho...) ...Once AGAIN, 'Quiet Storm Radio' saves the day; constant late-night Radio play helped the tune become the CLASSIC it is....along with the MANY, MANY cover versions!! ..the highest charting cover version (in the USA) is the Cover Girl's Masters At Work remix version, from 1992 (#8 Pop), ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kmmV60P5wgo.html .....and, Randy Crawford's Club / Disco version, remixed by Mousse T (#14 Dance), in 1998... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7SfcZyNxVDw.html ...out of ALL The Norman Whitfield / Rose Royce tracks, "Wishing..." is the one that brings in the MOST residuals, because it's been covered so many times! ...NEVER charted in the USA, so I have no chart positions....
@@EmpressReacts Ditto E! Shocking, actually -- almost makes me question RBS's never-charted-in-the-USA facts, but RBS is DA MAN when it comes to this stuff, so I defer to his Stephen Hawking level of song history knowledge. But shocking nonetheless. "Wishing" should have been waaaaaay up on the American charts, the song is a timeless winner. 🏆
Absolutely a bop. Back in the day that song was constantly blasting. Next to “Car Wash” it’s probably their biggest hit. Have you heard a song called “Pillow Talk” by Sylvia?
Interesting back story to this song, Norman Whitfield (manager of the band) turned to his girlfriend Billie Calvin, for material for Rose Royce's sophomore album. Calvin wrote the song originally intended for Barbra Streisand. Gwen Dicky said that when she started to sing the song, Norman told her to sing it softer and more seductive.
Aw - This brings back such fond memories for me --- my older brother used to blast this while taking for rides, zooming thru the streets of Sacramento in his 240 Z sports car!!! It conjures up those warm summer nights when we we were young and carefree! Empress - thanks for your reaction and taking me back to those sweet days! 😘
I'm torn between which one is more beautiful -- the song or the reaction. 🥰 A perfect musical production, it never gets old all these decades later. Huge shout-out to former Undisputed Truth member Billie Calvin who penned this wonderful tune. 💯
The In Full Bloom album that this song is from is powerful. If I'm not mistaken, on one side of the record said Dancin' Side and on the flip side it said Romancin'. Every one of those songs on that album was a 'stone jam'.
Gwen Dickey was to short in the limelight. Now she unfortunately suffers from severe spinal problems. She' has toured in the UK despite her physical problems. But she explained she loves the audience. An admirable woman!
The Cover Girls did this song. Wish upon a star. I have always liked their version, but yeah, after listening to this I dig it. Then again, this is one of those songs, no matter who sings it, its still a great song.
I love this more than Car Wash. The melody is just GORGEOUS. And I love that '70s production. (For us '80s-90s kids, we first heard this song covered by The Cover Girls [yes, I see the obvious joke, they COVERed it], but like the 3rd iteration of The Cover Girls in 1992 that got it to #9 on The Hot 100, and it's a really good cover!) When I was an adult, I went back and listened to the original Rose Royce version and it's perfection.
This original was a classic. There were many versions recorded by other artists since Rose Royce’s, but my favorite cover was by Beyoncé (2005); check it out on RU-vid. I appreciate your hip reaction-it was infectious.
