That's probably a question for his family. One thing is for sure...., and that is, that he was tremendous rosarian, and left a rich legacy of SUPERB, repeat blooming, English style roses that enriches the lives of countless people right across the world. I live in MN zone 5 (formerly zone 4), and Silas Marner had little die back over the winter. It's one of the healthiest and fastest grower in my garden (I have 25+ rose bushes).
