Lol nice review and spot on description of each character especially Darlene XD shes was my fav on the show. Her and the aunt. I forgot her name dammit
I liked the episode when DJ was grown up and being The Rain Man at a psychiatrist office and they made a reference to them switching Becky as the cause for him to snap. 'They say she's the same, but she isn't the same!' Funny too because they switched actors for DJ after the pilot episode.
@@mylifeismadness5465 they did for the pilot episode until Micheal Fishman was cast for the rest of the series. Forgot the other kid's name but I think the opening credits for the pilot say a different actor.
Sometimes pilot episodes will have a different cast member, because the studio or network will want a couple tweaks before they commit to airing a show.

One of the few great sketches on the Amy Schumer show was the sitcom parody where Amy ends up getting replaced by Becky 1 during a camera cut, and then Becky 2 replaces Becky 1, before being replaced by a younger kid actor
Even though I liked Lecy better, I didn’t not like Sarah. This was so much different than the 2 Lauries on That 70s Show. Sarah actually handled the role in a way that it was still Becky, just not the way Lecy played her, but the character didn’t lose anything with either actress. The fact that the show really played up the switches was great. They never tried to insult our intelligence by pretending like everything was normal like so many other shows. Best recast ever.
I think the bottom line was Sarah was a good actress, and the writers wanted her to do well. No one can ever play the character the same way as they are two different people. Lecy was definitely the bitchier of the two in my opinion though. As far as 70s show, the writers and show runners never planned to have the second actress around for good, and it showed. They needed to end the character with Lisa being out a second time with substance issues and I have a feeling the actress new that as well and phoned it in.
WatchReport.com I agree with Sarah being a good actress being part of why she was loved as Becky #2. She really did fit the character, even if she didn’t do the role the same as Lecy. I liked both. They did a great job finding someone who could play the role. Still, for me, the fact that the writers made the show self aware in the little jokes and references made good comedy. It’s rare to get that.
One of my favorite stories Lecy Goranson told about her time on Roseanne was when she had her hair cut prior to season 4. She said the producers didn't want her to cut her long hair because she wouldn't look Midwestern, which Goranson was confused by because she is from the Midwest. So Roseanne Barr went up to Goranson with a scissors and chopped off her hair and essentially said " what are they going to do now?"
I loved how they actually drew attention to the recasting in creative ways, whereas other shows would have simply ignored it. The "Patty Duke" reference was the most hysterical! 😂🤣
The thumbnail for this video is the first time I've ever thought they actually looked kind of similar. I like Sarah Chalke, but she never felt like "Becky" to me
Both Becky’s were incredible! Never watched The Conners but I do miss Roseanne. Especially seasons 3 and 4. She and Jackie had the best chemistry as sisters I thought. As well as she and Dan. I don’t think at heart she meant the comments the way they sounded, even John Goodman said that he knows she isn’t a racist.. I wish they would’ve let her apologize and kept her on (IMO)..That cast was the best!
If the show wasn’t so strong-willed and determined, the media would’ve pitted these 2 girls against each other and it would’ve been a forever-lasting feud. Instead they allowed one to put her education first, allowed the other to get her acting credits, and celebrated both women as they moved over into adulthood. More people need to know and celebrate this.
I liked Sarah Chalk "Becky" better because by the time she took over the role "Becky" was more of an "adult" so she had more interesting story-lines so even though I like both actresses in the role I prefer Becky #2 because I think the "writing" was better for her character then.
Singing: they're cousins! Identical cousins, all the way! They look alike, they walk alike, sometimes they even talk alike! You could lose your mind! When cousins are two of a kind!
I like Sarah Chalke but I thought she was NOT great in the role. She didn't do a great job conveying the Connor snark like Lecy had established. And her acting at times was downright painful...remember the Thanksgiving episode where Becky burns her hand in the kitchen? Woof! I was in shock over how she even got the part. Then when Scrubs premiered years later and I saw some episodes, I was surprised to learn she actually COULD act and have great comedic timing. Turns out she's a fine actress. She just wasn't Becky.
@@chanceneck8072 Agree with you. Full House was just too "wholesome" and weird in alot of ways for me to ever seek out watching it. Loved the other shows you mentioned, born in 1987.
I wonder how it would feel to be like 5 years old watching the show and wondering why Becky suddenly had a second puberty, then returns to her previous form.
I fell in love with Sarah Chalke in the last season of Roseanne. I followed her gleefully to Scrubs...my love for her is so strong, I survived 8 years of Zach Braff.
I think Sarah was a much better actress, which is why she eased in so well with the cast. But Lecy's 'Becky' was smart, intelligent, sarcastic, and quiet multi-faceded. No fault at all to Sarah as it was clearly the writers. But the Writers wrote Sarah's Becky as a bit of a dumb blonde.
YES! During the last season, Sarah has less than five lines for the limited episodes that she did. She did about six or seven episodes. The final episode, she had more than seven lines.
Usually I would say it's a case of unmentioned plastic surgery (As if that's common in that world or whatever) OR we are looking at an alternate universe that shares the same continuity but people in it look different. But here...now.....it's like both of those realities keep crossing over.
Sarah was always my favorite growing up but I completely agree. Now as an adult I absolutely love how they handled that whole situation. I also agree that they both fit the role and they both made it their own while playing the same role. In a way I have never seen before or since. They were both Becky to me and she was often my favorite. Though I will say as a young girl I loved Becky 2 better.
Oh man. That last season (before the reboot over a decade later) was off the rails. It did have Ernest (Jim Varney; RIP) star in it for a bit as a prince that tried to woo Jackie. The middle of the seasons of the original run are a TOUGH watch though due to the David/Darlene drama. They just put that record on repeat. I did like how DJ became a film fan and got that one geeky girlfriend eventually. Good show. Just that David/Darlene thing (which would have been okay for a single season with some spill-over into a new season) was made a focal point for sofa king long.
I like Lecy Goranson better in the role even though my favorite season is season 6 which is a Sarah Chalke as becky season to me what makes lecy a bit better is she got to play Becky during the times the family struggled the most like when Roseanne quit wellmen plastics then ends up working fast-food sweeping up hair in a beauty salon and working at the luncheonette at Rodbell's Department in the mall dan does drywall then fails at running a motorcycle shop when Sarah came to the role the financial situation had leveled off with Roseanne Jackie Nancy and bev opening the landford lunchbox and dan working as head of the city garage Sarah only get the marriage problem and the character during this time it thinks about divorcing mark so she can go back to dating him which clearly shows the 2 were not ready to be married and clearly done by Becky out of desperation to keep seeing mark after he gets his new job out of state
Part of the reason that Lecy returned for season eight is because that season eight was originally supposed to be THE LAST SEASON. Roseanne decided to do a ninth season. Lecy was already struggling to appear in a full season for the eighth and appeared in 10 of the 25 shows. Some of her scene were brief. Lecy said by the time she came back she said "it was too little, too late".
I was never a huge roseanne fan. My go-to dysfunctional family sitcom was Married with Children well until the last few seasons.. those were fucking god awful.
Married with children was my life. one of my favorite episodes was the grocery store 2 part episode that turned into a winning shopping spree race. Al's cart lmao
Zackery Newell it’s like WHY DID they never do that!? ....lol as ii’m typing this ii remembered. the ORIGINAL married w/ children was cast with Rosanne and Bobcat Goldwaithe. then when it didn’t work out they cast ed and katey. how hilarious it that. roseanne probably never came on because she was upset about how they ousted her from what was SUPPOSED to be her own show. but then she ended up getting her own titular show. 🤷🏽♀️
5:49 - you missed the *best* wink -- that's Bill Schallert, who played the dad on the Patty Duke show, nodding at Papa Connor. Schallert *also* doubled in 4 episodes of that series.
Roseanne barr used to be funny Until her reboot When she got fired, I no longer liked her The conners actually makes me laugh, tho! Darlene's my favorite!
I still go back to this show, I completely ignore the insanity that is the main actress. It’s a phenomenal show, the later seasons actually give spectacular episodes like Dan and Rosanne’s /huge/ fight and Dan coming to terms that his mother was, is and probably will always be very, very sick.
Thomas Bowe I a really don’t really remember what exactly was wrong with her but from what was shown of her in the episode and vague details, it sounded like she had bipolar episodes and probably heard voices? Again, if anyone actually knows, feel free to correct me because I genuinely don’t remember.
Hey, I’m a HUGE fan of your channel!!! I’ve been enjoying your videos since 2020 and have enjoyed each one with the utmost enthusiasm 😊 I was hoping to make a request, if possible. Can you do a video on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch?” (1990’s sitcom). Or perhaps a video on the TGIF lineup back in the 90’s? That would be great 🎊🎉🥰
I gotta give props to the show, they handle using the _Other Darrin_ for these two actresses better than any other tv show out there. They could've done a spin-off around this called _"The Tale of Two Becky's"_
Omg lol 😆 😂 🤣, I have been trying to figure this out for the longest 😅 😂 😭, thanks for clearing this out !!! Finally now I know after 25 years lol 😆 😅 😂 I like the first one better ..no offense..
Lecys version of Becky was thoroughly unlikable, she was a selfish snot and was very good at being that. Sarah was a selfish snot too, but she made the character Becky more likable.
I like both Sarah Chalke and Lecy Goranson but I was always team Lecy all the way cause she embodied the role so well and made her own that I could never get past the change to me the chemistry was lost
@@RossTheNinja So racism is cool to you right.. Roseanne Barr and You know comparing black people to apes has been a racial overtone for centuries now.. I love the show and her character I just dislike the woman who plays the character.. sorry..
never noticed this till re watching when the whole series and no i don’t count the “conners” as cannon when it came on amazon video but laughed my literal head off when i caught all of the references on the rewatch keep it up V love the deep dives from my adolescence
It’s not up to you whether or not the Conners is cannon. It just is. I really like it. It’s a better show without Roseanne tbh. She used to soak up all the space. The other characters have so much room to breathe, now.
I like both Beckys and I think it sucked how they used Sarah as a lame new character in the revised show. They should have just continued to alternate them.
Don't start that shit about Roseanne. She's not a racist and she made the show. The fact that they done her dirty like that is fucked up. Roseanne did more for women than all these alleged feminists ever have and helped to make some people very very wealthy. And Valerie Jarrett does look like that creature but it isn't bc of race. If you think that when hearing that comparison then you're the racist bc you have that mindset. I hate when politics sneaks into my entertainment. I quit watching movies and TV bc of it and I like some of your work but please just stick to the topic.
