Today I give you a bit of an update on the BF mkII XR8 ute. A couple of things have been done cosmetically, mechanically and I have some performance information.
Thats a really good number for a stockish 5.4! Ours made 298rwhp stock at the tires and the bloke at the dyno was quite impressed, but this is even better!
Those are some really good numbers!! Have a red ba xr8 ute wich has the 4 speed auto and that thing surprises me with the power haven't had it on a dyno run yet but the power driving is mad
The rev gauge issue IMO is from the ZF6 speed VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) which intermittently drops. I have this issue too on my BF2 Ghia. It happens rarely. Only when I abruptly accelerate/push the car. I have never tried to rectify due to very intermitted issue. When you're in next at the mechanics, you can tried to get is scanned to see any DTC's. Your car is looking much better. Keep it up!
Mate it is nothing to do with the VSS, it is the coil packs failing. I know it sounds wierd but i have fixed the speedo dropping on abrupt accelerations 3 times now by replacing coil packs. I have found it only affects ZF6 model falcons. Just recently my bf2 ghia did it as well and once again coil packs instantly fixed it.
@Damon Holmes Thanks. I'll try to change the coil pack eventually as I'm not having any acceleration stuttering yet. However I do notice it's hard to start the first time and a slight flat spot in second when flooring it. Could indicate coil packs but not yet matured with issues yet.
Looking good. Fairly standard issues for these, centre bearing is common but should last now! The sump gasket should be able to be changed on car, you can get the sump off but need to rotate to make sure the crank is out of the way and guess you needed access to the rear main anyway. I'd say she is tuned unless the dyno is realllly happy, my manual ba mk2 with full exhaust, intake and tune made that on a roller dyno. Might not be the quickest thing but not too slow either and they sound so good it makes up for it.
I had a leaking sump gasket in my ba mk2, & they actually just dropped the k frame so that the engine could stay in the car. A bit fiddley, but heaps cheaper & 5000kms later still no leaks
Yella Terra plenum, twin tb's, full exhaust, tune and most importantly.... 3.7 diff gears. They go well if you're not expecting barra/ls power. Great cruising cars.
It was a while ago now, I can't really remember. From memory it was just the cost of the centre bearing because the engine was out at the same time to fix the sump. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
