listen to Robert Jon and the Wreck, Marcus King, Georgia Thunderbirds and for dang sure listen to Dirty Honey if you want to hear some bands carrying on Southern Rock !!!!
Here in 2024, I'm reading that everybody is giving props to every last one of the band except for the late, great Leon Wilkeson, and that needs to change! Brother Leon was one of the greatest 'lead bass' players around, and added a 4th guitar line to everything the band did with his bass. Listen to Paul McC, or Berry Oakley if you wonder what I mean. He wasn't happy playing only 5 notes in a song, he made his 4 strings sing. Listen closely to this song; that's baby faced Leon thumpin' his way into the halls of Rock history, folks, and never forget it! He cheated death twice in his life: once in the Skynyrd plane crash, and once having his throat cut in the tour bus, but he hung in there.
We still need this kind of Southern Rock in this world. I got to see Rossington/Collins back in the 80s, and I loved it. I am a big fan of all the southern rock bands since I was a teenager in the late 70s.
Me! When this song came out, my rocker father was destroyed to hear me say that I would be dropping my pursuits of becoming a lawyer to become the next Dale Krantz 🤣. I got close to both, but that doesn't count with either. 🤣🤣🤣
The stars of this performance however were Travis Tritt and Dale Krantz.....my God, could that woman sing and belt out raw emotion with that gravely and seductive vocal tone!
@@TheChef470 - he played bass on the "Pronounced.." album because Leon had left temporarily, but those basslines had been composed by Leon. Ed stated that himself.
Wow Dale Krantz sold me my 1985 Les Paul guitar in 1985 at the Jam box in Jacksonville Florida. She was visiting Tim and Bea who were the owners. I still have that Les Paul sunburst and it's still my favorite. Rest in peace my brother Gary. I need to pay another visit to Orange Park Florida.
They were one of my favorite bands of all time. Helluva band. Dale was a beautiful and gracious lady. And I loved her voice so very much. Bless you lady of southern rock and roll!! Thank you dear!!!
They were very close to Lynyrd Skynyrd band wise with a few additional people who had some Skynyrd affiliation. So with that foundation they practically couldn’t miss. But even good bands fail. They didn’t fail but once Allen Collins wife died he just wasn’t able to cope. What a damn shame because they started out so great. Great song with powerful singing.
I saw these guys, in Nashville, at the Paramount theater in the 70's or early 80's. They blew me away then and still do! Rest in peace Gary Rossington.
Dale is one of my favorite female singers of all time. Back in the 70s, we in rock radio played this track and others from that album. One of my favorites was one good man. Dale sings her heart out on that one, oh heck, all of them.
IMHO....How in this world now, compare this TOTAL JAM CLASSIC to songs playing now?. I Thank The Heavens Every Day, That I Lived Thru The Best Generations Of Classic Music Eras - Rock, Heavy Metal, Soul, Disco, New Wave & ESPECIALLY SOUTHERN R N R !!!! I am a Southerner Rocker, FL born, raised & still living here.
Sooooo good! I love this song and you rarely hear it on the radio anymore, even the classic rock stations! Reminds me of warm summer nights hanging with my friends, learning about life and love in the early 80s! Man I miss those days! The world was so simple back then! It’s so wicked and twisted now!
I saw The Rossington Collins Band on a hot summer day in Downtown Detroit 1980 at Hart Plaza and they were fantastic. The audience went crazy for them and you could tell they appreciated the reception they got.
I have a Southern Rock band called Southern Comfort. We cover this and it is soooooo fun to play. At first the cadence of the vocals are a challenge to hit in the right areas of emphasis. But with the harmonies and all the dynamics and tempo changes in the song…. So upbeat which then changes into floaty breakdowns with keyboard twinkles and dreamy vocal harmonies and then rears back into a ripping guitar solo, cowbell and the pounding on the keys…. It’s a unique and rockin song. Can’t wait to play again soon. I need my fix!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I admire the fact that they call themselves Rossington Collins( & not L.S.) This lady can sing...& loving Travis TRITT... this song is one of my all time favorites~~....Travis does GREAT..
If there was a pet peeve that I have from the LS farewell concert which I saw back in December in Baltimore, it was that I would've liked to have heard this song performed. Granted , I wasn't expecting it, but with Dale being present, it would've been nice.
Spend a night with hanging with Collins and Rossington after they played Mass... and came to see our band at a nearby club... then I got to sing with Johnny V in Albany, and he played with my band The Hittman and the Missing Body Parts, and called me one of the best singers he's ever heard; then I got hurt and had like 8 back surgeries... such is life. I haven't sung in years.
Dale Krantz is one of the best rock and roll female vocalists in the world. I've always loved her strength as a vocalist. I never saw Rossington Collins Band in concert, but I did start listening to them when I was stationed in Germany back in 1979-1980. Awesome group; great musicians.
Had to listen to this, upon hearing of Gary's passing. A part of my very soul, gone forever. Don't Misunderstand Me, this was pure and passionate music. RIP , You're only gone in body, your spirit lives on for generations to come!
Rip Billy, Ed and finally Gary. His wife Dale was and still is an excellent frontwoman who has similar talents as Pat Benatar in the late great Ruby Starr. Her coming along sure helped Allen and Gary write some Great Southern rock AOR tunes in the 80s. Actually not real long after they healed up in the plane crash! tunes in the early 80s
Amen ! very sweet msg , honesty, and genuine kindness... the 80's were such a blast, this was in Atlanta at the Omni, I was living down the street from there back then... great band... rest well Gary🙏
I saw RCB several times in their prime at Franklin D. Lawrence Stadium in Portsmouth, VA surrounded by coolers full of Bud, blankets, hot babes in tube tops and motorcycles! Was magical. Allen was alive and well and Dale was on top of her game vocally and and a force to recon with. RIP Gary. We love you for all the gifts you gave a grateful Southern Rock Nation! Love and Peace y'all.
That's it ! I'm a true southern rocker!! That's my roots man through and through!! Wow I finally found my home!! I've loved and still love many genre's of music but this these songs they speak to my soul!! Wow
Ive been a southern rocker since the 70s. Nothin better....cept TT. Another ive followed since his very first song. Seen him numerous times. N Brooks n Dunn
This song always sends shivers down my spine. It's so fucking well done. The production support these guys got throughout their career deserves a hall of fame induction. It's amazing that a bunch of guys who were very much the real deal could write such incredible music that was transcendental in so many aspects.
Can't help but think of Miss Dale over these last weeks. I sure hope she's got lots of friends surrounding here at this time of despair. . . I saw Skynard 3 yrs ago in London Ont but Dale was not there. So sorry I missed her. What a voice! I was lucky enough to catch a good view of Gary though. What a jammer! I feel blessed that I got to see him with the band. He will be missed so much! Thanks for the memories and all the great tunes Gary. We all miss you.
Mrs. Rossington i am so very sorry for your loss. You are still the greatest female vocalist i have every seen in my life time. Thank you Dale for sharing Gary with us. My wife and I were lucky enough to meet Gary at the meet and greet in Biloxi before the show. I have a picture standing with him. Over the course of my life i have seen you and Gary perform many times. Around 20 total. The favorites, front row center stage the Woodlands Texas. I brought all my favorite albums. I could see you and Gary both smile when I held up my Rossington Album. I brought my Rossington Colllins albums, Vanzant album, and some Skynyrd stuff. I did not try to get Gary to sign them. I was just trying to convey my appreciation. I saw you both in one week in Florida the first time in Orlando then the show in Tampa. That was awesome. In Orlando, i sat 3rd row on the right side in front of Garyi I never sat down, Johnny threw a bottle of Jack at the flag behind stage pissed, then said clearly. "People don't (insert beep) sit down at Lynyrd Skynyrd shows! Then in Tampa, everyone stood up! Like their supposed to! I was sitted 2nd level stage right. I knew you saw my wife and I because you pointed us or me out to Gary. I'm guessing you said. "Is that the guy who never sat down in Orlando?" Again in Biloxi, i brought my wife and son. It was his 1st Skynyrd show. He was like 13 yo. I bought the best single sit ticket i could find. Row 4 infront of Ricky. He absolutely loved it. Again Biloxi my son with his girlfriend the last time I got to see Billy play. Again in Biloxi 2nd level first row sitting behind you, with my wife. First set was Rossington Collins, you sang this song. Second set was Skynyrd. Mrs. Rossington you were such a good sport. When we got your attention, we signed for you to bring bring Gary over for a solo. You were smiling and laughing! No Gary did not play a solo behind the back round singers. But at some point you pointed us out to him, agian guessing your must of said something along the lines of. Do you know those lunatic? When Gary was headed back on stage that night to play Free Bird. He glanced at us politely smiled gave a small bow, as we cheered and went wild. Dale Rossington you are not a Back Round Singer. Your a star! Thank you just does not feel like enough! But Thank you 100 times is a start.
P.S. in the Woodlands, I was 2nd row. After Freebird Gray stood right in front of us. He sent 2 picks my way. I missed both. Then he shot out 5 or 6 and people were diving for them. I just smiling and he nails me in the chest like a Chinese star. Still got that pick also. My favorite item will always be the picture standing next to Gary. Master guitar man!
This is a great southern rock tune, Travis and Dale hit it perfect, also, I see 'Ed King' rocking his guitar there.... nice... you all rock ! fan in Kalamazoo, Michigan USA * * * *
wow awesome performance! I still remember when our local radio station in Cali Colombia (Radio Musical), used to play this song in the 80's > R.I.P. Gary Rossington you surely will be missed! RM
I saw these guys a few years after the deaths of Lynyrd Skynyrd members. They ended their show with a spotlight focusing on a vacant microphone playing Freebird. A fantastic and classy tribute.
@@stevemcclanahan9395 no doubt. Pretty Hairy. To this day I’m a huge Allen Collins Fan. He’s a forgotten Guitar player. People don’t realize He was self taught. God Bless Em. 🙏
Love her/ their stage presence, entertainers , Travis fit right in. They are not wrapped up inself, making it like your lucky to see them. They make you feel more like, they are more lucky to have you see them perform. Its almost like a lost art. Black oak Arkansas with Jim Dandy. Head East with Don't Misunderstand Me. I mean the best thing country got going is Little Big Town and Boondocks. (NASHVILLE COUNTRY)
