How to install a new stepper driver for your rotary axis on Co2 Laser Engraving Machine. In this video I use the RuiDa RDC6445GT5 Touchscreen Controller, which is capable of using the U Axis for Rotary attachments, rather then needing to disconnect the Y Axis for the Rotary Use. This feature is also available on other controllers such as the Trocen AWC7824 Touchscreen Model. It is important to note that NOT all controllers have this capability and you should check the specifications first before installation.

Thanks for the great video. In the portion where your setting up the Rotary in the Ruida controller; if your using lightburn can't you just enter those needed parametrs in there instead of the controller? Typically Lightburn overrides settings on controller.

I do have a nema's 17 machine, i need to add a rotary chunk but, most of the rotary chunks are nema 23 at less, may i install an independat stepper driver to allow me to use a rotary chunk?

is the GT5 per default able to use U-axis for rotary, or have i do anything e.g. flash other firmware like i have to an a 6445G or S?

Could you tell me what firmware you are running to make this work? I have the same touchscreen and controller with a rotary installed on the U axis. When I try to run the ppr test it fails saying "rotary is not enabled" even though it is. Also, the Y axis acts strange when I have the rotary enabled. I'm guessing I need a firmware upgrade? I'm currently on 26.01.16 and I cannot find a link to download anything newer.

my co2 machine with Ruida rdc6445g controller does not have stepper driver/attachment, what is a better choice: 2 phase chuck + driver or 3 phase chuck and driver? Are those parameters (current and pulse) you set on 4:35 dip switch listed on the rotary chuck attachment?
@geminiman2831
@geminiman2831 Год назад
What is the use of half current and full current? Currently I am using dm542 and nema 17! What pulse per revolution should I choose for nema17? And does more pulse means more speed? I am using 20 & 30 teeth!
@gregwerkheiser5009
@gregwerkheiser5009 Год назад
might be too late, but half current and full current is the amount of current the motor uses when not moving. so if you were putting a lot of force on the motor when it wasn't moving, you might want full current. since there is no force on the motor, then you can use half current just fine. Also, more pulses means a finer controll of the actual angle that the motor is turning. if you could set it to 4 pulses per revolution, then each pulse would move the motor a quarter of a turn (90 degrees), where if you used 5000 pulses per rev. then each pulse would move rotate the motor a very very tiny amount.

can you email more info to askmatt@mwlaser.com.au There are a few compatibility issues I have become aware of, including one of my RDC6445G controllers. Send me your HMI version, RDLC /Firmware version No. as well as the software version of RDWorks you have installed. And I will discuss with RD-Tech to see if I can assist Cheers

Hello!, i'm currently studying engineering and for a project i've chosen to build my own co2 laser cutter, i've been able to find enough information on everything, except power supplies, the thing that has me confused the most are the voltages, the tube i'm planning on using requires 15-17kv to fire, and then 11kv to sustain that, however a (what i think is a fitting atleast watts wise) power supply says it can put out up to 24kv, so does this mean it'll just constantly blast out 24kv into the tube or does the tube only take as much voltage as it needs? or is this regulated by the controller? i can't seem to find any information on this anywhere so was hoping anyone here maybe has an answer? it'd help me out a ton!

Sorry I do not have that information - This is something you should talk to the manufacturer about.

I'm developing a high speed and acceleration laser cutting system with performance intended to be similar to Trotec systems but at a lower price point. Are there any controllers that you would recommend I try and which controller is your favorite?

@@MWLaser Thanks for getting back to me, I greatly appreciate your help. I've got the RDC6442G right now, and it caps the speed at 3,000mm/s in the software, and practically speaking I've begun to suspect that I'm not able to run the controller even that fast despite using drivers and motors that are rated for up to 6,000mm/s with the given loads. I think I could be loosing steps on the controller end that I don't really notice because I'm using a closed loop system with servo motors. If you would be willing to aid me further it could be useful for me to know the fastest speed and acceleration you've run one of your lasers, when approximately you start loosing steps, and a reasonable approximation of an Emergency stop distance from a given speed(so that I could calculate your E-stop acceleration). Also If you're aware of any software caps on the speed or acceleration for either of those controllers knowing those caps would be a huge help. That's a lot to ask, but I'll be very grateful for whatever help you're able and willing to give. Thanks

@@MWLaser, Ruida just got back to me and it sounds like the RDC6445G has the speed capability I need, where the Trocen was a little slow for my application. Are you recommending the touchscreen version of the RDC6445G or the standard user interface? Thanks

I've also just been informed by RuiDa that there are some older models of the RDC6445G that this is not possible to use the U-Axis. These older versions of RDC6445 would require DSP firmware update which can be done with an offline file, HOWEVER the FPGA on controller would also require firmware update which CANNOT be performed buy the User.
