Rothy's Review: Pros & Cons After One Year Of Wear 

to clarify:ya'll are getting worked up about when I say I've taken these hiking. I do not mean long hikes where hiking boots should be worn. What I mean is things like urban hikes on trails that aren't always paved (ie trails in a city park or on a trip when we want to do things like hike down to a beach we stumbled upon) Be rest assured I am not climbing Half Dome in a pair of Rothy's.

I have 4 pairs of the point. I have Flax Birdseye which is even lighter than the red and have had a lot of dirt stains on them overtime. I normally scrub them with dawn prior to putting them in the washing machine. I have done it quite a few times on my shoes and they always come out of the wash looking new.

I have7 pairs of shoes. Not one of them has stains like that. It almost looks as if charcoal was rubbed all over them. I've washed mine plenty of times and the stains come out. I don't know what to say about those insoles because even when my feet are their dirtiest, they would never stain my shoes this badly.

Hi All! I live in Hawaii so it’s ALWAYS humid and hot. No huge problem with breathability but I do have sweatier feet. I have four pairs of points and wash them once a month since I wear them daily for about 8-10 hours. I’ve gotten black sharpie marks on my flax color and after a few rounds of washing, the stain came out. I can’t recommend them enough and have found that if you take care of them consistently, they’ll last years!

The black stains don't appear to be dirt or stains, those seem to be the red dye wearing off and the underlying black rubber is just surfacing!

For stains like that, a light scrub on the shoes with some soap before putting them in the washing machine makes a huge difference and most of stains will come out. Same for the insoles. I had some that had turned black and scrubbed them with a sponge with scrub on one side and they came out a lot cleaner.

I have the same pair of red rothys. I purchased the additional black insole. But I found that if I hand wash them in the sink with a tooth brush and dawn dish-soap and/or laundry detergent that works the best. I own 3 pairs (2 points, 1 ballet flat). I love them personally. But hand washing may be your best bet and you can avoid the laundry machine cost.

I have 4 pairs of Rothy’s and love them all! I have 1 Point, 1 Flat, and 2 Sneakers. Before SIP, I used to travel a lot for work and they are perfect because they’re so light and don’t take up much space in the suitcase. All of them have held up great. I agree with you that dark colors hide the stains. I’ve had all my Rothy’s for a year plus. I do have the Salt Honeycomb colored sneaker that is very light and the bright Orange colored flat. Both of those showed stains on the outside similar to your flame points but my insoles only had dark impressions around my toe shape. After a year, I finally got around to washing them which is how I came across your video. I was looking for advice on how to get rid of the stains. I followed someone’s recommendation and used OxyClean spray stain remover, used a toothbrush over the stains, waited 10 min, and repeated this process 3 times until the stains looked pretty much gone. Then I put them in the wash cycle in my washing machine. The stains are gone on both the outside and the insoles and they look pretty much good as new! Wish I could attach a photo and show you. You should definitely try this on your flame points! I know you don’t like the Sneakers but I highly recommend the Sneakers for casual shoes to kick around in. They are so comfortable and supportive since they have the thicker sole and have the additional foam rubber half insole. At $125, they are a great value of the Rothy’s. 🤗 I’ve bought Rothy’s in the SF store and online. Their service is wonderful and high quality. And their return policy is great and hassle free since I’ve purchased 2 sizes when buying my points and flats in order to compare sizing. I am a bargain shopper and prefer to buy things on sale but am more than willing to make an acception with Rothy’s. I just have to use self-control and space out my purchases. 😊

My daughter has the kids loafers and they withstood a lot. My daughter usually wears sneakers, boots, etc out really fast. So I am really impressed with how long they lasted before looking worn down.

Mine come out perfect every time from the wash. Use a pretreat spray and let sit for a few min and then throw in the wash with cold water and let air dry. The dirt left over may be due to a poor washing machine. Wash them more often, to lessen the work to remove the dirt by the machine. I have 71 pairs.

I own 39 pairs of Rothys. I wear them everyday. None of my Rothys are that dirty. I believe you must be washing them incorrectly for them not to be coming clean, because all 39 pairs of my Rothys look brand new.

I’ve had my flax Birdseye (light grey) for 2 years and mine have never gotten stained like that. Maybe no hiking?

You can buy new insoles if you’d like. I have cinnamon red... which is more of a burgundy. That’s a major bummer that the stains don’t come out! I’ll only buy dark colors. I do own rosebud & I’m scared to wear them since they’re light

I bought black pointed toe Rothy's and immediately returned them. I just felt that they looked like I was wearing no-show socks. And even though they were black, you could see my toes move when I was walking. That wasn't a professional office look. Quickly returned.

I always wear no show socks with my flats and Rothy’s. My insoles don’t even look like a foot has been in them at all.

Hello. How is it that the insoles get so dirty?

Hey girl I do laundry professionally (fluff and fold) been doing it for like 7 years and have washed a zillion shoes. These plastic water bottle shoes are a million percent more durable than a cotton shirt that you will dump oxy and stain remover on. My advice; plastic wont shrink so stick them in a front loading machine ( top loaders dont work at all, they dont clean properly) with a scoop of oxy clean on warm ( be generous with the oxy) on a normal cycle (not delicate, not necessary)....that shit should come out!! If it doesn't still, stick them in a hot cycle with bleach for colors and oxy and you can rub stain remover on the spots, that HAS to get it to come out. TRUST ME those shoes are not delicate to where you have to wash them on a delicate cycle that wont do the job

Have you looked into tieks as well?

Have you tried Oxyclean? I’d soak them in Oxyclean for 30 min, then run through the wash w Oxyclean. It might help!

Have u ever consider Tieks?? They are GREAT for travel, as they fold into themselves. You cant wash them, but imho, they don’t stink bc it’s real leather. Just a tad more $ than Rothys. I own many pair

Girl.... the loafers are the bomb!!!! Sooo comfy!!! Imho , the points aren’t that comfortable. The insoles have given my heels indents. ( bottom of heel) next beef is that the sizing is all over the place. I half size up on all and I have a narrow foot. Just got Big Cat in the half size up and too snug. Afraid the 11s will be falling off. Idk lol 😂

Do you think the stain are more because you went semi hiking and wore them out in not city environment? Maybe if they’re are used in an office or everyday use it would come clean? I ask bc I just bought the same shoe just today! Thanks!

I have the same exact pair as you that I got about a year ago and I clicked this video thumbnail because my insoles look just like yours. Like 75% of the way of having the amount of dirt build up. And I have washed mine a bunch of times including about a month ago. So I validate you sis! Same problem. It’s nice that generally people don’t see the insoles but if I were to go to a friends house and take them off then they’d be pretty embarrassing looking

I have two pair that I have owned for over 2 years. No stains and wash up beautifully. I think maybe you abused them. Hiking??? Yeah these are not meant for camping or hiking.
