Exactly. That was their return to it. Impressively, they still at that point with Century Media. Did it really take Century Media that long to realize what their concept of Black Metal was about since Rotting Christ own beginnings? A mystery of many mysteries with record labels and their demanding directions... It's like Century Media was trying to mellow down all these aspiring bands purveyors of aggressive sound and beyond.
I can't understand why this album is so underrated...it has the dark atmosphere,the sweet distorted melodic guitars and (in my opinion) the best vocals that Sakis ever had.There is nothing wrong with this piece of art....and I personally believe and hope that they should compose one more album with the elements of their gothic past 🙏
Will definitely agree about the vocals. It's SAKIS best performance by far. Overall, it's a great album. Favorite moment: Glory of Sadness. RC should return sometime back to Abyss studios.

I'll never forget the first time I heard "Art of Sin". I probably was around 14-15 in 2009 I think, first ever contact with RC. I felt high and bewitched for the first time in my life. Thus Khronos being my personal favourite RC album while still believing that their early work was and still is their best work.

2000... Πως πέρασε έτσι ο καιρός και φτάσαμε ως εδώ κανείς δεν το κατάλαβε. Το νέο millenium αποδεικνύεται ευνοϊκό για το metal, αφού απ'τα τάρταρα όπου βρισκόταν ανεβαίνει πίσω στο θρόνο του. Το ανάποδο όμως συμβαίνει στο black metal, διότι όχι μόνο η σκηνή έχει από το 1998 γεμίσει με πολλούς posers, αλλά και γιατί πολλά συγκροτήματα έχουν πάρει την κατιούσα. Για να γίνω πιο σαφής,οι Darkthrone έχουν γίνει ένα μονότονο pseudo-thrash συγκρότημα που το νοιάζει μόνο να πουλήσει δίσκους και φήμη, οι Ancient πλέον λίγο διαφέρουν από ένα gothic style καρναβάλι (ειδικά ο Aphazel), οι Dimmu Borgir έιναι πλέον και με τη βούλα ένα disney metal συγκρότημα που έχει χάσει τα αυγά και τα πασχάλια στο θέμα ποιότητα, οι Satyricon πειραματίζονται με ακραίους συνδυασμούς look και μουσικών στυλ, οι Cradle of Filth μόλις άρχισαν να ξεπουλάνε με δόσεις με δίσκους όπως το Midian, οι Ulver ξεκινάνε νέα καριέρα στο avant-garde και στις γκαλερί, οι Mayhem κηρύσσουν πόλεμο στο "conventional black metal" και βγάζουν τον πιο πιωμένο δίσκο τους (ένα death metal φιάσκο που ακούει στο όνομα "'Grand' Declaration of War"), οι Nightfall "γοτθικίζουν" μετά μανίας, οι Behemoth το 'χουν ρίξει στη φιλοσοφία και το θέλημα, οι Gorgoroth είναι αλλού ντ' αλλού και μπερδεύουν τους φαν, οι Graveland το ριξαν στον wotan και το pagan metal και οι Burzum κοιμούνται ambient ύπνο ελαφρό... Khronos... Το πιο σκοτεινό, experimental και ρομαντικό album της πολυαγαπημένης μας μπάντας που στην νέα τριλογία ισοδυναμεί με το Triachy of the Lost Lovers της παλιάς. Ο συγκεκριμένος δίσκος μπορεί κανείς να πει πως είναι ο ήχος ενός συγκροτήματος που μεγαλώνει, αλλά δεν τρώει τούμπα όπως άλλα όταν γίνεται διάσημο... Στο συγκεκριμένο άλμπουμ, πρέπει να πω πως καθρεφτίζεται μια μουσική κρίση που συντάραξε το συγκρότημα και αφήνονται υπονοούμενα για μια ιδιαίτερα οδυνηρή κρίση ηλικίας. Και πως να μην υπάρχει κρίση, αφού το Khronos είναι η πρώτη κυκλοφορία στην ομιχλώδη αυγή της νέας χιλιετίας και του δεύτερου μισού της μέσης περιόδου τους. Με αυτό το δίσκο οι Rotting Christ δείχνουν πως έχουν αλλάξει: δεν είναι πια οι ονειρικοί Rotting Christ που σταμάτησαν στο Sleep of the Angels για να πετάξουν για πάντα στα σύννεφα, μα ένα συγκρότημα που στέκει ακίνητο και παραξενεμένο πάνω απ'την άβυσσο... Την άβυσσο του χρόνου φυσικά, αφού η φωνή του Σάκη ακούγεται λες και αιωρείται πάνω από μια μαύρη άβυσσο με μια λεπτή δέσμη φωτός να φωτίζει το κενό από κάτω του, κάτι το οποίο φαίνεται και στο artwork, το οποίο αν και απλό (και κάπως πρόχειρο) σκίζει. Η ατμόσφαιρα πάλι είναι σκοτεινή, γοτθική και στοιχειωτική, με ένα μυστηριακό αίσθημα τρόμου, καθώς τα συνθεσάιζερ του φίλου Γιώργου προσδίδουν σχεδόν όλη την ατμόσφαιρα στο άλμπουμ... Και μιας και το είπα, τα synths ομολογώ πως είναι ωραία παιγμένα και έχουν μεγάλη ποικιλία ήχων, ενώ την πρώτη τους εμφάνιση κάνουν και οι χορωδίες, οι οποίες θα φτάσουν στο ζενίθ τους στο Genesis. Τα ντραμς παίζονται εξαιρετικά θα έλεγα, με ένα ιδιότυπο στυλ το οποίο δεν είναι βέβαια συμβατό με αυτό του Θέμη, μα υπέροχο. Η κιθάρα και το μπάσο πάλι παίζονται πολύ ωραία, πράγμα που δείχνει το ταλέντο του Σάκη. Το μόνο που με ενοχλεί είναι αυτός ο ήχος της κιθάρας, ο οποίος όχι μόνο διαφέρει έντονα από το σάπιο ήχο του Sleep of the Angels, αλλά και καταντά εκνευριστικός για μένα ώρες ώρες... Στο θέμα τραγούδια παρατηρώ με ικανοποίηση πως κανένα δεν είναι κάτω του μετρίου, άρα το songwriting είναι καλύτερο! Τι να πω δεν ξέρω, πάντως από το intro track Thou Art Blind ως το outro Glory of Sadness (ή το Phobia) οι Rotting Christ μαγεύουν όσο κανείς άλλος τον ακροατή με χαοτικές μελωδίες που δένουν υπέροχα μαζί με τα synths (αν και κάποιες φορές το πράγμα παραγίνεται) και τον ταξιδεύουν στον κόσμο της ψυχής του... Συνοπτικά, το Khronos είναι αδιαμφισβήτητα το πιο ιδιόμορφο και σκοτεινό άλμπουμ των Rotting Christ, υπερβολικά υποτιμημένο... Τα φωνητικά, οι κιθάρες, τα πλήκτρα και πάνω απ'όλα οι μελωδίες και ο ρυθμός δείχνουν πως το συγκρότημα έχει αφήσει πίσω την παλιά εποχή και ετοιμάζεται για ένα καινούριο αύριο και για μια πορεία που θα αλλάξει τα πάντα γύρω του... Σε γενικές γραμμές είναι όχι απλά καλό, αλλά φανταστικό!! Συνολική βαθμολογία: 100/100

Ό,τι και να μου πεις, το De Mysteriis dom Sathanas είναι το καλύτερο των Mayhem και σαν αυτό άλλο δεν έχει, καθώς ο Euronymous είναι μοναδικός στο είδος του και ο Blasphemer ωχριά μπροστά του. Μετά απ' αυτό οι Mayhem πήραν την κατιούσα και χάσαν το πραγματικό νόημα της ύπαρξής τους...

The most intensely melancholic Album by Rotting Christ. I loved it since day one. Good they got more aggressive after this one but Khronos is perfection. Also I think the melancholic vein is always present in Sakis music, in all of their works, and is one of the trademarks of RC. Keep the flame alive!
Certain times of the year the canyon walls at Sabino canyon line up perfectly with the stars the entire 5 mile walk through the canyons at Sabino canyon I've gone there so many times sometimes you can see the ufos flying behind the stars on the canyon walls

Ήταν τότε περιοδεία ΚRONOS των r.c στην Αθήνα στο θρυλικό ΡΌΔΟΝ! Τι να πρωτοθυμηθώ, είχα φτιάξει σε λευκό σεντόνι το logo της μπάντας με μαύρους μαρκαδόρους και έξω από το ΡΌΔΟΝ φωτογραφίες με την μπάντα και τζιφρες παντού! Θυμάμαι αυτό το άλμπουμ όταν το άκουγα το άκουγε και όλη η γειτονιά, έχει φοβερό παλμό αυτό το άλμπουμ κάτι που το διαπίστωσα και στο live τους! Αυτό που μου κάνει εντύπωση είναι πώς αν και από τα καλύτερα τους ( για εμένα ) είναι σχεδόν ξεχασμένο για πολλούς!

Όντως ξεχασμένο κ από τους ίδιους εδώ κ πολύ καιρό,.μέχρι κ στις περιοδείες τους για το genesis παίζανε μόνο το u are i , τα τελευταία χρόνια δεν παίζουν κανένα από το Κρόνος το οποίο κ γω μαζί σου το θεωρώ το καλύτερο τους.Το khronos κ το genesis είναι οι 2 δίσκοι που ξεκινάω να τους ακούω κ μέχρι το τέλος τους δεν αλλάζω κομμάτι

Ενταξει δεν μπορω να πω οτι οτι βγαζουν ειναι τελειο,εννοειται οτι ειναι φυσιολογικο κιολας, αλλα ακομα τους ακουω που και που.Ειναι απο τα μονα μεταλ συγκροτηματα που ακουω πια. Η φραση "απο παιδακι" με εκανε να χαμογελασω και να γραψω εδω ενω αναλογιζομουν ποσα χρονια τους ακουω και εγω.
Θυμάμαι σαν τώρα 2001 κάπου θα ήταν 4 η ώρα το απόγευμα είχε καμία 666 βαθμούς στην Μαλακάσα, κ άρχισε να βρονταει κ να αστράφτει με τα πλήκτρα κ το You are l. Πανικός
So aprecio até esse album. Do terceiro milenio so aprecio uma música do album genesis (Quintessence) E algumas do album Aealo de 2010. Os caras passaram a usar muita ideias industriais e muita recitação de falas nas músicas. Fica uma onda chata.
