The main issue is the gapping in the tools and the lack of a functioning caplifter. To be honest the shields are Rough Ryders are really well glued. The BSA official camp knife is a better choice, as is the Schrade OT. It would be nice if GEC would be nice. Bear & Son and what time had the old tooling for the Camillus Scout Knife. It would be nice if they’d re-pop it again. The knife came out two years ago and is out of production. They have repopped it in the Classic Carbon II in T10 steel. These have the same non-functioning bottle opener.
@@KnifeThoughts , all the space between the blades because of all the strange bends they place on the punch, the screwdriver, and the can opener. They weren't necessary and they make the knife much wider than it needs to be.
@@mwillblade, and this is something that aggravates me even more as it is an easy thing to fix yet they keep chrurning them out with this flaw. It took me all of 30 seconds with the dremel. This is something that should've been caught during initial design and should've never made it passed quality control I love Rough Ryder but there lack of attention to detail on these knives is aggravating to me.
I've looked at these camp knives over and over. I just need to pull the trigger on one. I have the Kershaw Thistle and like it. It was my winter coat knife last winter.
Just a point regarding the Victorinox you used in the video - You actually do have the Pioneer. I own the Pioneer X which adds scissors and love it. As you mentioned the Farmer adds a saw to the tools included on the Pioneer and the Farmer X adds both the scissors and saw.
I bought a vintage Imperial usa kamp king from ebay for 8$! Took me about 20 minute to clean it and now it's almost as good as new. It looks the same as those rough ryders but the covers are plastic. But its a very good option if you want that nostalgic factor.
I also think the Thistle is a great knife for the price and I bought 2 of them but not to give one away but to keep both for myself. I had to get one out and play with it having been reminded of it by this video.
I have a scout knife from the new carbon series to stick in my camp kit. Great knife for the money - tip was a little proud and awl was blunt but both fixed in 10 mins with a diamond plate.
