This final part of our Gibb River Road series, ‪@nextleveloz‬ hits the roughest part of the road yet as we travel from Drysdale River Station toward El Questro, stopping at Ellenbrae for their renowned fresh scones, and hope to cross the swollen Durack and Pentacost Rivers.
In this third part of our Gibb River Road adventure, we encounter the worst section of road on the Gibb - do we survive the infamous caravan killer road intact? We also try one of those "influencer shower scenes.. LOL - but don't worry, we keep it short and decent!!
Welcome to Episode 32 of our Big Lap Gap Year. We're David and Paula ‪@nextleveloz‬ Like many of you, we've worked hard for 40 years, but we are too young to retire. So we're taking a gap year from work, we've bought our first ever caravan and are doing a Big Lap around Australia taking in the iconic destinations of our fabulous country.
This channel is for fun and to share our trip of a lifetime and 100% of any ad revenue earned goes to charity.

Great episode. Love the birdlife. How incredible is the difference in landscape and colour from the west Kimberley to the East Kimberley. The whole of the Kimberley is such a magic, epic, ancient place ❤️

The post “unseasonal wet” ensured the Kimberley, the Gibb and the Pentecost turned it on for us!! 👍👍❤️. While the early challenge of deciding how to deal with the weather front changed our plans, in the end it made for a better trip and the scenery - as you say, is Next Level. How good is this country! Thanks again mate.

Hi i came across your gibb road series and decided to watch glad i did i even subscribed. Earlier this year my wife and i brought our first camper trailer a opus op4. We started our trip from south west victoria on the 1st of may went to Adelaide, south end of Flinders Ranges, port augusta, Coober Pedy, ghan, Uluru and got as far as king's canyon. We had planned to go on to the Bungle Bungles but found out the caravan park was closed then we were going on to el questro then down the gibb and back to Broome, then back home to south west victoria. But king's canyon was a far as we went we hope to get there in may 2025. Thankyou for sharing your travels it gives us an idea what to expect when we go back. 👍

Thanks for watching and subscribing. It’s much appreciated and of course also helps us send the ad revenue off to charity. Glad you liked it. We’ve seen a few Opus campers - they look pretty cool. Bungles (coming episode !! 🙏🙏😉) Gibb, Broome are all wonderful experiences. BTW don’t worry about the caravan park at the Bungles. Many people pull up at Spring Creek and leave their vans for an overnighter or day trip (we think Purnululu is too big and too stunning to cut short the experience so we did two nights there. But depending on your tow car the Opus can get into Purnululu with due care. Regrettably we didn’t get to Karijini (car 🙄🙄😢) but if you have time see if you can fit that in your loop and/ or the Ningaloo Coast. We absolutely loved swimming with whale sharks, turtles and rays in that part of the world. But good luck with your planning and glad our little channel helps in some way. All the best. 🙏

Thanks again John. Hope all is well on the IOM. We'd covered about 23000 km on the trip all up as at the end of the Gibb River Road (ie including day trips etc). Hope you enjoyed this view of the Kimberley. It's an art that doesn't get quite as much exposure overseas does it - bit remote, stunning and BIG. cheers

Another great vid. Quick question, are there many free off-grid camping spots? From what I've seen most people stay at these paid sites. Thanks for sharing
@nextleveloz
@nextleveloz 11 месяцев назад
Hi thanks for watching again. Good question. Much of the Gibb is flanked by private property so the private station stays / stops like Mt Hart, Manning Gorge / Mt Barnett and Ellenbrae are all paid icons. There are a few free camps like Lennard River Rest stop (where we stayed before Tunnel Creek), March Fly Glen (where we had planned to stay until we found Bells Gorge was closed) and on the Pentecost (where we stayed) so there are several but not lots. We also stopped at the Gibb River Crossing which has been on and off as a free camp - hopefully people treat it well so the owners don’t shut it (again). Silent Grove is a National Parks campground (paid). So there are a few free camps but not only are many of the areas privately owned, many people find the station stays a flexible way to drop in and pay as they need at milestone points. Some places like Galvans some people apparently try to stop but they are clearly marked as no camping. Beyond that you see people pulled off into gravel type pits - but not many.

@@nextleveloz thanks for quick reply. Did the GRR in 2008 in a Discovery 2 and loved it. Have a 2022 Defender D300 and waiting -(19 months!) on a Nova Terra Sportz- hopefully next week - and then another lap. Your videos and lovely relaxed way of travelling make both watching and planning a great joy. Thank you.

Hi. Thanks for watching. The Gibb is great isn’t it. Yes the unseasonal wet weather system recharged those waterways while we were there. We use Epidemic Sound.

@nextleveloz
@nextleveloz 2 месяца назад
Hi. Thanks so much for watching and a lovely comment. The shoes are Merrell Choprocks. TBH Merrell have become our fave hiking shoes full stop - no association they just seem to fit and wear well for us. I love my water shoes and makes it a lot more comfortable doing the wild water swims and short hikes as well. I’m not sure the Choprocks are still available from Merrell. We have a quick look in case we could find a link. We found one link found a link to put version model at brandhousedirect.com.au. But we know nothing about that site. So if you’re interested check out whatever Merrell have replaced them with and/or see if there are any limited available sizes that suit on other sites or ebay etc. There are two types of choprocks one is the sandal which we didn’t like or the shoe variant which is what we have which and which has similar strapping to the sandal but a more fulsome mesh upper which lets the water straight out and a nibbed more substantial sole to protect your sole and give some grip on rocks in creeks etc. So they are a bit more substantial than the beach shoes some people have. As always even shoes designed for the wet can still be a bit slippery on some wet rocks especially if there is some algae or moss on them. Hope that helps and thanks so much for the comment. Safe travels. Paula and David

@@nextleveloz thanks guys 🥰. We are planning our WA trip for next year and watching what you have done has been great inspiration. Hope to see more of your travels now that you have finished your gap year 😊. Can I also ask how you managed with your toilet cassette over your extended time on the gibb. Notice that there are limited to no dump points 😱

@@cherriehalliday8883 Thanks. Just got back from a short trip to Queenslands southern downs. We are doing something a bit different this year and weighing up what VLOGs we might do to explain it. Also weighing up our van (keep it because we love it or change it if we can find something slightly smaller and more agile but still comfy - 🤷‍♂️). Anyway! WA is wonderful - loved it, especially the Gibb. We have composting so disposal wasn’t a problem for us - even with the extended stays due to the floods. For our friends that we traveled with they made absolute most use of the loos at the station stays and roadhouses. So yes that does limit the feee camp options a bit but each of the major stopover locations have loos of varies descriptions. In our case Mt Hart, Mt Barnett/ Manning Gorge campground, Mt Elizabeth Drysdale Station, - the intersection at GRR and Kalumburu Rd Ellenbrae all had facilities. Some people carry an extra cartridge with them also. Again in our case the composting loo meant we didn’t have to use a dump point and as the wee bottle is untreated / not chemical it can be disposed of anywhere including septic and drop loos. Sorry that doesn’t help and we know others had the challenge but between an extra cartridge and max use of the facilities that were around that helped especially if you aren’t held up. cheers

Good morning travellers, just wondering how you are finding the air suspension on the Defender on these corrugated roads. I have D3 and only done a short stretch on these roads..
@nextleveloz
@nextleveloz 11 месяцев назад
Air suspension on both car and van is terrific. I can’t compare to the Disco. Some people are reporting the ride is firmer in the Defender which it will be give the construction etc. We also aired down as you must. But for height adjustment alone on both car and van the airbags have been brilliant.
