I think that maybe they already have, AD, but they operate their community under the moniker of "Wilcox," and don't refer to Dog River at all. What's with that? Thanks for watching and writing. Take care. Cordially, Skyleo Fiets
Thank you for sharing this video about Rouleau. I am also doing a bit of genealogy research and recently found out some of my family moved from Iowa to Rouleau in the early 1900. I appreciate that you provided history of the town and included the years. I can kind of picture how the town developed. I was pleasantly surprised the camera shot of the cemetery includes the headstone of my family (Bower). Thanks again!
U are entirely welcome, Rita. Thanks for writing. Very kind, very encouraging. I'm glad that U found some connections in my little vid. Take care and Keep well. Cordially, Don Wilson
Jeez! So many in your family died young. Mine, too, come to think of it. Mmm. We've been lucky, Papa. Thanks for writing and keeping it real. Cordially, Skyleo
Your comment made me smile, David. U're right: I'm not the world's greatest videographer. U Should visit Dog River and take some fotos. The elevator is gone, as is the Corner Gas set, and the downtown is hollowing out, but there are still lots of pix to be taken. U should go. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care. Cordially, Don Wilson
Tour away, Pete. But maybe wait for a bit till the covid restrictions are raised. Not many places open in the countryside: hard to get supper where in days past it was a snap. Good luck and thanks for writing. Cordially, Don Wilson
My husbands home town. Farmers north east of town, about 6 miles, and Grandparents homestead straight north, son still living in the home...They moved into Rouleau from Iowa in 1906, spent a few years custom harvesting with mules, and a large crew., prior to the permanent move. The home was bought in 1909 and they resided there all their lives. Lots of family history here.
Thanx for writing, Jan, and mentioning that snippet of family history. Like so many other families, eh? Coming up from the marginal lands in the northern States to settle in and develop "Canada's Bread Basket," just two or three days travel on the Soo Line north. I wonder if they dealt with the Luce Land Co. Cordially, Don Wilson
I know they came to the Rouleau area as a family, Father/mother/2 sons/2 daughters/wives of the sons....in a railway car with all their belongings including the animals, cows, horses, chickens/sheep/you name it....and lived in that boxcar until the CPR need it for grain hauling. They spent the first winter in tents!!! I recal seeing one of those very long veritcal pictures of the crew that were doing the custom harvesting.....what a story they told.... not sure about the Luce Land Co. I am a genealogist and have lot of photos of their early days. Thanks for your reply. I could go on and on!!!! Jan
@@janjoynt3278 doing a bit of genealogy research myself and found some of my relatives moved from Iowa to Rouleau also - let me know if you might be related to the Bower family :)
at the 5:10 time mark, the building is the cop shop and mayor's office, and as of 6 months ago, the wall you see has a big hole in it. bad. and thanks for the video.
Really? Why? Decay? They aren't thinking of demo-ing the place, are they? Thanks for watching and for the update, CC. I appreciate it. Trust all well with U. Take care and Keep well. Cordially, Skyleo
Thank you for another visit to Rouleau. My wife and I visited there in August, 2016 from Oregon and visited the Stewart Block, built by my Grand Father Elmer Stewart, who died before I was born. Did see his tombstone at the cemetery. People in the Municipal Offices were very nice and helpful. Missed lunch at the Dog River Hotel since they were closed to go to town for supplies. If I were relocate to Canada, Rouleau would be my choice. My sort of town.
Thanx for writing, 209. U wrote to me before, didn't U? And I forgot, else I would have focussed a bit more on the Stewart block, looking for a cornerstone or plaque. I'm pleased that Rousseau impressed U favourably, and hope that U'll return someday. Cordially, Skyleo Fiets
Jason! Long time! I'm so pleased that U still look in once in a while. That's great. Thanx for writing. Hope all is well with U and that U are snugged away from today's bluster. Don
I'm not sure why there can be, what with the entire set, including the Dog River elevator, gone now. I believe that my first Rouleau film predates CG. Take care. Don
Don't even know, neck. I've seen a Dog River map, but I don't recall the location of Oscar's and Emma's. U can google it, tho. Thanks for writing. Cordially, SkyleoFiets
Ptoo! Say what!? This is a FAMILY channel, W H. No profanity, please and thank U. But, thanx for writing, anyway. Take care and Keep well. Cordially, Skyleo

Mate, I would like to call for a pint, I guess can see I am of relation to your lovely town, could you help me contact the town as I want to see history, I am a veterinary surgeon, and asked in past for a provincial flag of Saskatchewan from PM but did not get so. Ok, get up and ya, I will watch
U'd want to ask Saskatchewan's premier for a flag, John: prime ministers rarely deal in provincial flags. U come here, we'll call for a pint and we'll get U a flag. thanx for writing. Cordially, Don WIlson
Cheers Don, when getting cream crackers, I look to see if of Canada as I only like wheat as in Europe as well and I like. I have a bit of free time as taking up further tuition in my veterinary studies. I will give a message when able, I like so your vlogs, cheers again.
Did I write a reply to U and then hit 'Cancel' instead of 'Reply'? I see not trace of a reply on the page, here, which isn't unusual for the RU-vid, unfortunately. Anyway, to repeat myself: The comfort level all depends what happens to be going on in a community when I am there filming. Some times are less comfy that others. Thanks for commenting, Agi. Oh my goodness, Ima. Heh, heh, heh. Believe it or not, this ain't the flattest regions we have here in SK. Lucky those glaciers left gigantic mounds of till all over the place to give views depth. Thanx for noticing and writing. Cordially, Skyleo Fiets
