The best player to not hold the world champion title. And I think the answer is explained in this interview! He loves chess and plays for the beauty of the game not preparation and computer moves. Although with his calculation and memory it's clear he could top the field if he wanted to memorize everything like the others. Well done Chucky you are the last romantic player
@jasondoe2596
@jasondoe2596 5 лет назад
Minkki82, to be more precise, he could certainly top the field if he was consistent. The man has occasionally *crushed* players like Kasparov and Carlsen. On a good day, he could beat *anyone* ... Sadly, his performance is very inconsistent, and I'm afraid that's not a "choice", or something he could "fix" - it's the flip side of his creativity. Ivanchuk is an artist, through and through; not a mental athlete.

Lukasz Kleczkowski Lol his peak was around 2450 ELO, while Chucky is still in the Super GM ELO even with more than 50 years on his back. Chucky is so better that it's stupid to even mention Rashid in the same sentence with Ivanchuk.

@@rokanza2293 both are amazingly creative and incredibly inconsistent. I don't think it really makes sense to compare their ratings because there are many factors to take into account such as rating inflation.

I love coming back to this video, seeing this amazing man analyse his entire game by memory, as well as rattling off quite a few moves of many variations that never even happened, all with the same excitement as if he was actually playing the game.

Truly awesome analysis. Also, I felt bad for the interviewer trying to hold that mic for 10 minutes. Imagine interviewing a genius talking for ten minutes, and the main thing you're thinking about is your arms getting tired.

Gotta love this man. One of the few players who can visualise the whole game easily in his head. Amazing stuff. Ask most players about their game and they give some general comments. Chucky launches into 10 minutes of variations. lol...

As much as I love this interview and I keep watching it non stop, this isn't true. Many top players can do that. There's a video in which Grischuk analyzes a game with MVL, or in general in every chess interview you see the player commenting out of memory. For super GMs visualizing the board without seeing it is no big deal.
@tomerbauer
@tomerbauer 2 года назад
Yeah, but it ain’t so.. all super GMs can easily remember games on that level. I suspect that most of them have just learned that other people are not interested in hearing their entire thought process. Luckily, Ivanchuck doesn’t care about that and the reporter was very kind in giving him all the space he needed hence we got this gem.
